Are the members of IC permitted to discuss strains from seed banks who do not pay for advertising on this site?

It came up for discussion in the tokers den in this thread
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=185275&page=2

On one hand the admin is saying it's fine to do so in the smoke reports and strain guides.
On the other hand one of the super mods states that
"Basically yes, discussing a seed companies products who don't pay for the ad space here may be removed as spam. That has been the case for a few years now"

Fella's which is it?

You did get a straight answer, but I'll c&p it again for you....From JJ

In short, any seeds sold by Seedbay or the Boutique can be discussed anywhere on the site.

If they aren't carried by the Bay or Boo then you still have the right to include them in the strain guide, grow report section.

Thats grand and all I was looking for, if you have read the last few posts in the thread you will understand where the confusion comes from.

Thanks KG for clearing it up :)

In context discussing any strain/variety is normally fine... in specific then only on the strain guide thing .. :canabis:

jeez i'm dense or something =\ i thought i finally understood after the last post in the last thread but then read the above ^^^ now i'm really confused

i'm not selling anything and don't care about who buys what seeds, i'm just going to be incredibly vague unless they were purchased from one of the sponsors i guess.

Lmao i hear ya smokefrogg I think there saying its ok in moderation just try to be respectfull and not advertise other company's.

yeah, that's kind of what i am getting

it is an asshole move for anyone to come here straight up trying to drive business to competitor sponsored sites, anyone that does that on any of the herb boards is just asking for it imho

quite right too... folks don't sit on the Coke forums saying how great their Pepsi is do they ;)

edit - I should say, I also fell foul of this rule when I first came... took me a while to cotton on :)

It's really very simple, the TOU clearly states that the Strainguide is the only place on the site where you can upload reports of non-sponsor strains, the forum is where discussions take place and discussion of seed companies who don't pay for advertising will likely get removed as spam. There was no contradiction between mine & JJS' posts

Question about discussing different strains

Question about discussing different strains

Is it necessary for a seedbank to have a forum on icmag for their strains to be discussed?Or is it only necessary that seedboutique stocks the strain. Thanks

I get it now. But it took me a while to understand that they use their own unique definition of spam here. Once I understood that that word had been redefined by ICMag mods to mean "any discussion of a non-paying company," I have not had a single thread deleted.

Right well I've been thinking about this for a while and have arrived at the conclusion that certain exemptions need to be made.

If 1 or 2 strains from vendors who do not pay gypsy money to advertise have a high medicinal value then they should be allowed to be freely discussed in the MMJ forum.

Inclusion of a few strains into the mmj forum on compassionate grounds is hardly going to break the bank, sometimes there are more important things than money.

just don't be specific man

we could say, "super awesome seed bank's alaskan thunderdieselryder kush is one of the best for this specific medical purpose!!"

or we could say, "there's this pheno of alaskan kush strain that seems to work amazingly well for your ailment"

just imho, but that seems to be the crux of it all

bagseed?

yup, we've all gotten a seed here and there in the herb we acquire...probably best to just not be too specific about the specifics

Ah right I get ya now....must of been having a dense moment :)

People shouldn't have to hide the source of their meds or be cryptic about it or at least thats the way I see it.

We can post up strains from breeders that dont support Icmag in the strain guide so why not allow a small number of them of them to be discussed in the mmj forum if they are shown to help with peoples medical conditions?

Doubtful it would harm this site or the revenue it generates...
