while checking out the outdoor grow i discovered some rotting bud with worms inside. i suspect they came from moths. the only thing i could find at the local co-op is a product by ferti-lome borer, bagworm, tent caterpillar and leafminer spray. it has spinosad a and b 0.05% and 99.5% inert ingredients. i have read that spinosad is good fro this problem but im unsure about this product. has anyone used this product or know whether or not i should give it a try ?

be careful about what you spray on buds,
is it a rampant prob or just a few isolated cases?

I get small catapillars in my OD stuff also, I just pick out them out and I'm good to go.
they like to spin a small web/cocoon in a leaf they fold up.
or they burrow into a bud and spin the web.
they really prefer the leaves but i think the ones that eat their way into the buds get too stoned to find they're way out :D

this morning when i went to check them it was raining pretty good so i couldnt really check them over good. this afternoon after the rain stopped i went back and found about 20 green worms inside the buds. also found what looked to be eggs or larva not sure which. these were on 4 plants of 3 different strains. i have 2 other strains that are showing no signs of the worms. also i found a few dead brown worms and 2 cocoons. i agree with not spraying anything on buds but these things are wreaking havoc on my lil babies. i have 4 or 5 praying mantis that hang around so im sure they are doing what they can which is another reason i dont wana spray. so untill i get more info i will make 2 trips a day.

Spinosad is what I've used to keep caterprillars off.

Also, on my OD stuff, at dawn, I usually find these tiny yellow/greenish spheres (eggs) on the very tippy tops of the colas. I think these are the eggs for these little bastards. Every morning I carefully inspect and remove these tiny egg balls, and it seemed like I had less of the worms after doing this.

Pick up some Safers Caterpillar Spray-- It is safe, as BT, the active ingredient is completely harmless to Mammals-- They carry it pretty much in any Garden Shop--
I use it every year...and it is very effective...however you have to reapply every 2 weeks or so--:tiphat:

what i have found has spinosad. should i abandon the spinosad idea and search for bt ?

btk The "kurstaki" variety is what you want.

bti is for gnats and not what you are looking for so check the label

btk should be really easy to find. even lowes and home depot should carry it.

I use a similar product made by Bonide, spinosad A and D @ 0.05% and inerts @ 99.5%. I use it with a spreader/sticker. I started using it last year because I can get it at the local coop. It worked great for last year and is doing a good job this year also. I mix it at about 2/3 of the suggested rate. Good luck man!

Azamax does the trick for me. Stopped spraying earlier in the week. I'll be using as a soil drench from here on out. (Doesn't harm earthworms or micro-heard)

The other day I came across an unusually whitened leaf on a plant. After plucking, I found 30-40 freshly hatched cats all huddled together and not moving. I'm guessing they hatched out, fed on the underside of that particular leaf and never made it any further.

Last year the cats ruined about 1/3 of my harvest.

and i will say it without giving you a hard time; it's too late and whatever damage there may be is already done. best advice i can give you is once you're done trimming, put the buds in the freezer overnight and they will be dead the following day. all of those chems work well but you need to hit your plants early and hard. you'll do better next year. peace-biteme

funny how it sometimes takes a stroke of genus to figure out what happened with the worms i had. after all was choped and de wormed i found that not all were affected. it seems that a hps light on a pole was lighting the area where the affected plants were. the ones 50 to 75 yards from any ambient light had no problems. :bashhead: MOTHS WHERE ONLY AROUND THE LITE AREA. this year i have a new plan and it doesn't involve any unnatural light source. hope this works.

I had a new plan also...I enclosed my area, and built a greenhouse--
I am tired of fighting caterpillars--:tiphat:
