How far do you drive for your guerilla op?

10 minute walk from my home. Like my sidebar says, I'm out in Bumfuck, Nowhere. There is nothing but cornfields and woods around my house.

How did you manage to become a "senior member"??

We get the distinct impression you've never grown before.

It's just ABSURD to talk about growing in an area you have never even walked!

Check your state laws and stay Under the number of plants that escalates penalties.

The whole "flush" thing is strictly for hydro growers, it's not needed in soil.

You didn't know that?

Keep it simple ... do a search for "Lowes" ... a grower here lists some pre-packaged soil and nutes available at many big-box stores.

1 Tbsp. of moistening crystals in a gallon of water, let them swell up ... put 1/2 gal at the bottom of each bucket.

It's cheap drought and/or neglect insurance.

Otherwise, go read some other "newbie" posts, or buy a few books.

You have a lot to learn, and very little time to wise up.

I've never grown outdoor. I have 3 indoors grows under my belt.
The land is so big and its hard to have time to go out there.

Will check lowes out. :joint:

Welcome to the great outdoors!

Welcome to the great outdoors!

You'll like growing outdoors, the fresh air and real sunshine make for very healthy plants. If you're still set on using buckets, go ahead ... if your more comfortable with a method that's closer to what you have experience with, that's OK. Keep in mind that for millennia, these plants were only grown outdoors, and though some strains can't grow indoors, All strains will grow outdoors.

Setting grow-buckets in a foot deep hole, especially with numerous holes in the bottom, serves three functions: It helps keep the root zone cooler, it gives roots additional room to grow out & down, and allows access to ground-water when there's rain. As a bonus, it will help keep the bucket from falling over when it's heavy with bud.

Green plastic buckets are good because they are easier to camo with some flat black and dark olive-green spray paint. Think of how they will look from the air! ... Keep them close to surrounding bushes and clumps of tall weeds, not in the open, by themselves. There will be no measurable difference in yield if they are on the South facing side of a big clump of stuff, but they will be harder to spot from the air. Also, consider tossing some fertilizer on the surrounding stuff so it doesn't look pale and withered next to your herb.

Be sure to prune the plants so that they remain shorter than the highest nearby foliage. If you have to bush it out, and hold branches down with twine, do it. Having a lot of smaller buds is better than one big one swaying up in the air, easy to spot. Use green garden twine, since the white stuff stands out like a sore thumb!

Don't use products that contain blood meal, feather meal, or crab meal, unless you've mixed it with the soil first, and allowed time for it to break down. It can attract critters that will dig up your sprouts. The same goes, in spades, for fish emulsion. When the plants are large, you can spray them with fish-stuff & seaweed, but otherwise, avoid this possum, coyote, and raccoon magnet. Mulch the plants with a thick layer of human hair from a barbershop floor. It's one of the few reliable deer preventatives. Otherwise garlic stuff is available at many garden shops. Monofilament fishing line also works, if you can place two strands, two feet and four feet tall, all around the plants. Ten lb. test is enough. The can feel it, but not see it well ... it spooks them.

If this is a large piece of ground, use GPS and spread them out, way out. That way you can use different routes to reach them and not make a trail.
It only takes two trips to cause enough damage to grasses and low plants to make a trail that can last for months. Strategically placing lengths of 1/2 lb. test "invisible thread" mono across the path is a fine way to see if anyone or anything has passed that way. Just remember where it is so you don't break it yourself!

I have been talking about it for years but still haven’t taken the plunge myself. I have a better reason to try a long distance grow now. I hope to give it try next season on a small scale at least.

Some of the questions surround the taking care of the plants in 3 time periods.

1. Seedlings. Not sure how you do this but I have been starting seeds in cold frames for at least 5 seasons now but I have to tell you I am glad I can visit the cold frame every couple of days if needed. How do you start you plants?

2. After seedlings are in the ground do you use slow release ferts (maybe a dumb question reading your 2010 thread byline).

3. How often do you visit the plants during the season?

4. Do you grow multiple strains and how do you cull males if different harvest dates?

5. Different strains require different harvest times too. I beginning to think that multiple strains are a no no for a long distance grow?

hamstring homie !!

i start clones indoors and drive them way the hell out to nowhere. i try to visit as infrequently as possible to avoid a beaten path. now im ready to check daily due to cool damp weather...

the long distance guerilla wouldnt lend itself to culling males and such in my case. this is only my 2nd year out on the pasture...

all the best to ya !!

Stop being a daisy. Weed's been legal for years now. Give up your right to own fully automatic suppressed weapons and move to california. You can still have some pretty sick guns and you can grow your plants in your backyard. 6 in-ground plants will put out enough weed. If you still want to grow more you can talk to the right doctors and they'll tell you how. My friend was a dealer and he got his rec upgraded to limit him to 6 pounds. Even when the cops busted him for tax evasion they had to give his weed back :)

There's diff. places to live for diff. people. California is for potsmokers. I went to amsterdam thinking I'll find the best weed in the world... NOPE! Not even close to Cali-Indoor. Their top notch indoor is like our mediocre greenhouse.

I appreciate your exuberance about cali but I assure it wouldn’t hold all the weed smokers and or growers in the US. Also no offense to Cali but it wouldn’t be my first choice to live and I personally don’t make my choices in life (career, family, home, friends) based solely on weed and weed production.

Very good point, I believe fems might be the answer for me because I don’t have an indoor show or clone.

Daily visits what kind of windshield time we talking about?

The only reason to grow long distance for me personally would be climate and fewer humans. If I could do a 3-4hr farther south grow it allows me to consistently grow until the middle of Oct which believe it or not opens up a HUGE strain selection difference.
I am sure many growers at one point or another have checked the seed selections and it narrows down to pin head quickly when your harvest date has to be Sept 15th and earlier. Its amazing the difference in choices that I have seen anyways in a mid to late Oct harvest date.

im driving a good hour each direction, so checking them takes half a day. i dont ever need to water due to elevation...

i like the idea of heading south a good hour or two, the weather in sept seems to go downhill really fast in my current spot....

the earlier finishing strains im not really considering cuz if found them severely lacking in potency.
