What's new

looking at RO systems

thinking of getting a hydro-logic stealth 200. I have 2 100 gallon reses, plus a 50 gallon veg res. So i need something that can make a fair amount of water.

The issue is I can not get my PH to stay down. Within a day it jumps 1.5 points back to the PH from the tap. Its crazy. I am 95% sure it is water related and not related to my nutrients, plants, media etc

Any insights on to using a RO system?

Will I need a pump to feed the RO system or does most tap water have enough pressure to feed a RO system?

I have a dual home/reef from airwaterice.com with 75GPD membrane. I use a ton of water for my reef tank. It is a bit on the spendy side for our purposes so I would look in to a spectrpure unit from ebay. I haven't looked lately but they used to be around the 100$ mark.
unless you have shitty pressure, you wont need booster pump, I would recommend a couple GOOD prefilters to keep the membrane happy. Bulk reef supply (.com) has lots of good prices on stuff too.

I was going to get a stealth 100 until I found the filter guys and they have better and cheaper RO units

I have the stelth 100, quality product, well put together - I like it a lot, yes it is slower then the 200, but it works great, Ive yet to replace the filters (had it like 2 years) and still, it puts out single digits ro .08 ppms. I say buy the 200, you will be glad you did.

If you want to read up on some ro/di knowledge check the link below, the reef guys are water quality fanatics, and filter guys is the bomb for solid filters at a good price. I like the ability to custom tailor the unit and a dual inline tds meter is handy for whatever unit you end up purchasing.

As noted spectrapure make the best filters but you can also buy any other unit and when it's time to replace the filters buy spectrapure filters.

PH fluctuation in your res is most likely from heat swings. Check your temps through out the day.

thats what I ws going to get until someone here told me to check out the filter guys. Im glad i did
the stealth 100 is a 3 stage ro unit and the filter guys have a comparable unit with a 4 stage system way cheaper.
