Can I use this as a grow tent?

I don't know how air/light tight it is, but why the hell not? You'll have to make due with the venting, but that's what razor knives and duct tape is for.

The material is not quite airtight. It is this thin fabric that gets holes melted in it pretty quick with any kind of high heat (speaking from experience). I used the frame off a smaller one and completed it using panda poly. You might be able to attach (glue?) mylar or panda poly all over the inside, but if not done well, could be a disaster.

Once you mange to fix all the light and air leaks and get the materials to finish it, you might find that it would have been cheaper and easier to buy a cheap grow tent.

The inside doesn't look reflective at all. I don't know your situation although I'm guessing you have some decent sized plants already, that's a fat tent.

well cut hole in top and bottom or not a hole a flap and use velcrofor when you have to seal it this tent will only work for 24 hrs of light to many light leaks imho

Yeah, I should have said that in the first place.

It's only 13" front-to-back (13.2 x 60.0 x 63.25), so it's not going to be used to grow giant bushes, at least :)

I think odor control and ventilation could be big issues with the Walmart product, and there are other unknowns as well as mentioned above.

Sounds like you have a really tight budget, but there are some relatively low-cost options online (such as this one at $75) that are made for the purpose. I've got one of the same brand a size or two larger that is working very well for me so far, and it turned out to be well worth the money.

Well, that's a pretty shitty situation to be in, no doubt. Sounds like you already have plants that need a new home?

You could throw together something temporary with a refrigerator box (often free if you ask around) painted on the inside and ventilation holes are easy to add, if you are running 24/7 and don't need stealth/light tight/soundproof and just need to buy some time to look for a better solution.

It's going to be hard to get good advice, since we can't know all the factors (other than cheap and immediate) that you need to consider.

Good luck, I hope you find a great solution.

If you don't have time to order one....
1) Buy tent setup you're looking at 'garment closet'
2) black poly from hardware store
3) aluminum tape
4) mylar (optional)
5) some flex ducting (get enough for intakes to create light trap using 'S' curve)
6) I'd use 2x 250w side by side, spaced out evenly for best coverage. Any more than that in that space and you'll have heat problems.
7)tarp zippers (get them at the hardware, or most craft stores) use these to make your door

once you're done, you should be out under $200. Buying a pre-fab is usually easier.
