Just heard about Thiago Silva -vs- Brandon Vera being put together for UFC 125. Any thoughts on that bout?


It's a fight that should be pretty violent. I see Thiago having a successful return and getting the (T)KO against Vera though. Vera is just one of those guys I've never really understood the hype around. I hope that if Thiago gets an impressive win they'll put him up against someone in his class like Bader, Couture, Franklin, or even Matyushenko. I think that Thiago had his chance at the likes of Machida and Rashad (who he actually rallied against in the last round with the most meaningful offense in the fight) too early in his career and I wish they'd give him more time to develop and slowly bring him back up to the very top guys with some wins over quality guys like the ones listed above. Vera is just a step too low for my tastes though, he deserves better than that. A win over Vera right now is a step down from when he beat Jardine last year in my eyes.



I can't wait to see what the rest of the New Year's Card is going to look like - hopefully they make it real real nice to make up for last year's (which in retrospect wasn't that bad..)

am i the only one thats pumped for CroCop vs Mir? i think this one is gonna be interesting because Mir has this habit of striking with strikers. (i think ive said this before) im not sure who im picking to win that one, but i know it should be entertaining. im HOPING that Mirko takes that deadly left leg of his and kicks a fucking field goal with Mir's jaw. not saying that Mir is a bad fighter, he just rubs me the wrong way.

i couldnt take a right hook to the chin from george foreman today either. does that mean he should be in the ring? no he WAS a great now he hocks a mean grill.

ever since dana white took over the ufc its been wack to many rules ...gloves, rounds,breaks ect. i wish the gracies still owned it. if i had to pick a camp id go ol skool royce gracie and family ....before the world knew what BJJ was they couldnt be stopped...used to be fights lasted til ppl got knocked out or quit. no breaks at all. no hand gloves ect ect i can go on and on

royce and family are the shit to this day .

LOL @ backyard brawl ....its called real fighting u schmuck no one stops and tosses gloves on and says hold on we been at this for 3-5 mins lets take a 2min break for our 2nd winds ... the gracie UFC is based on real fighting like i said no breaks between rounds, no gloves no bullshit period... just like a real fight end of story. danas ufc doesnt put on a true test of skills (endurance). royce faught matches that went on for over and hr . his daddy and brothers faught matches that lasted several hours .... none of the girls u see today ,could go for an hr alone several hrs w/o a break. hell u see champions wore out in 15-25 mins of fighting with breaks. if they let it go til a winner was found alot of your champions today wouldnt be champions. end of rant.

yes it was awesome..
it also got banned from the country.
and a real fight dont end with a tap or a KO a real fight ends with life flight.
we are talking about the sport of mma. not kicking the shit out of someone on the street.
if you understood BJJ you would realize the "rules" in the ufc today do not affect a BJJ practitioner.
A gracie bara fighter would not be kneeing a downed opponent to the head. and a gracir bara fighter should not be stupid enough to use a headbut.
mixed martial arts has evolved beyond royce as evidenced by the GRAPPLING clinic mat huges put on against him (where the new rules made absolutely zero difference)

so what do you advocate?
no time limits
no rounds
eye gouging
biting
scratching
fishhooking
no referee
no weight classes

you watched a spike piece on royce..good for you (i dvr ed it so ill watch it later) but i think we all know the ufc was not originally ment to be a "mixed martial arts" competition. it was a competition of mixed martial artists for the purpose of displaying the superiority of gracie JJ. and the lack of rules benefited the opponents.

of course you must really think pancrase champs are the worlds biggest pussies? there are even more rules there ...

have you ever even spectated a BJJ tourney? there is a reason the old ones in brazil went for an hour sometimes... it aint because of endurance.

what do you guys and gals think of him? 20 years old and he is already a badass! HIs fighting style is entertaining and very devastating. They say his j.j. is awesome and his standup is underrated. I definitely agree his standup is underratted got to get to work wanted to write some more gotta go!

i dont like standups.

and a knee aint a small joint.
gracie JJ does not use much small joint.. you need hopkido or aikido for that.
but like i said real fights end with life flight not a hand raised.
