Hey Heath glad to see I finally found which forum you're on now! I've been working on pulling all your tree threads and pics together from all the various forum threads. I am creating a pdf, so this info is never lost. Hopefully, you'll help fill in a few gaps for me when I get it a bit more sorted out.
I'm moving to a medical state in 6 months, and will be building a tree setup, and hopefully at some point, a diy vert rack. All thanks to what you have taught me over the years!
You are and always have been my biggest inspiration as a grower. Keep it up bro! Your trees and verts are Legendary!

Ok Heath let me get these questions down while I can remember them. Please bear with me and remember this is to help me build a PDF of your tree builds and the knowledge you have shared about them:

1)I was just thinking about using a flip flop with your tree setup to run 3 lights in a 5 bulb setup(alternating the outside bulbs, or sweeping them across the room, hadn't figured out which would be better), and here I see you've already done it. How has that worked out, and which way are you doing it?

2)Can you clarify the floor plans you use a little? In the five light 4 plant setup, what are the floor dimensions, and how close to the corner do you get those outer bulbs?

3)With the circular configuration, what is the distance from the bulb to the center of the aquafarms? Also what is the room size you did that in? Did you ever run this setup with cuttings instead of seedlings, and if so how did it perform?

4)How do you address cooling needs with these tree grows? I saw a "portable" AC unit in one of those pictures, but I can't imagine that being adequate, or remotely efficient. What amount of daily temperature swing do you consider acceptable in these tree grows?

5)Have you established a guideline for yourself regarding rate of flow for these tree systems? Do you know how many times you want the trees solution to cycle in an hour at minimum to maintain this kind of growth?

6)In the years you have been growing trees, what have you found to be the best commercially available strains for this type of growing?

Ok that's it for now. Thanks for your patience. Keep up the good work!

major props for paving the way to RDWC and vertical lighting...
would LOVE to see what u could do with some MPBs, DoubleDs style (krunchbubble and mikeross have threads here)
u would kill it with huge tubs and 1000 waters

hows the smoke on the black rose? do u have any dried bud shots? fucking beautiful plant!!!

DIAMOND MOFO, funkfingers, SS-, Gsizzle, John goodman, thanks for calling in, and making this thread a pleasure to update!

Hi Fredster,

Doubleds mpb`s and the undercurrent set-ups are almost dead ringers for my original high flow aquafarms, because they are the same system!

DD contacted me a few years back as a non profit medical grower and asked if I would tell him in detail how my recirculating grows worked. Over the following months I answered all his questions and sent him some seeds. You can imagine my surprise when I saw DD posting up the recirculating system but it was now called a MPB !!! lol.

Then I read he was selling "his design" for a hundred thousand dollars or some ridiculous figure, when all they had to do was look through my threads and they could have had it for free lol. The growers who have been around the forums for a while know the score and now the ones who haven't do also.

mg75, There are no secrets here, one thing I can tell you is all grows are governed by "Blackmans law of limiting factors" this states that if a chemical process is affected by more than one factor, then its rate will be determined by the factor which has the lowest value.

In growing terms this means if you have perfect lighting, great air exchange perfect room temps, but high root temps, the limiting factor would be root temps which would reduce dissolved oxygen available to the root zone meaning the yield would suffer.

When you look at your grow try and remember "Blackmans law" and identify which part of your grow is the "limiting factor"

Silky Johnson, this particular grow is using Ionic nutrients, which is a simple one part nutrient and I have added PK13/14.

*mistress* sorry I cant be much help to you, my only experience of coco is in sog systems using drippers. I have never grown trees hopefully someone looking in can post up some info. my m8 nutella has grown some cheese trees in coco hopefully he will see this thread and give us some tips!.

BIGGS, I have thought about releasing some strains for sale but I dont know if I could cope with all the drama surrounding seed sales. the thing which has made me contemplate it is the amount of "breeders" using my strains in their crosses or directly knocking them off. Over the years I have given away 10s of thousands of seeds and hopefully helped a few growers along the way but its obviously impossible for me to give seeds to everyone, so yes thinking about it! lol.

copperfacedave, you can make it fit! just don't let the trees get too big, the lights are obviously spaced evenly to suit the room with the centre bulb in the centre. As your room is a bit tight for space you might end up moving the centre bulb to one side.

I don't normally top the trees as they bush out naturally after a certain size, but its not a problem to top them just don't do it too often as you will end up with lots of small grow tips, more of a privet instead of a tree.

cheers Doradoguy, glad I have been some help, the recirculating system is so simple some don't try it!.

Thanks DrPoison, as you probably know I have taken the Black Rose quite a way since the first ones were released, Its now rare to find a green pheno so I have pretty much got here where I want her in seed form. I am just in the process of trying a different mother which has quite a large yield on her. as you know once you start with this breeding business it takes over!.

Hi VerdantGreen, I have to say that 1.6 gpw is quite brilliant in soil so my hat is off to you sir!. You probably know that in all my grows have efficiency in mind, I don't like the idea of using lots of power to grow, it sounds like you are the same, actually probably better because I don't think I got anywhere near 1.6 in soil! lol.

Hey MGT great to have you here, do you still have the pdf of the old aquafarm mods thread? I have the vertical racks one I would love to get hold of the aquafarm one. it must be a great feeling to be able to grow legally, hopefully one day everyone will be able to grow this great plant without fear of persecution.

1, If you are flip flopping the lights make sure they are lit in line not a V if that makes sense. Obviously the centre bulb is lit all the time and the outer ones are flip flopped so looking down from the top of the grow you would be able to draw a straight line through the three lit bulbs.

2, The minimum size I would use for 4 trees would be 10ft x 10ft the bulbs can be as close as 8" from the corners but in reality you have to place them where they are correct for the plant.

3, the distance was approx 3ft the room was approx 9ft wide, the cuttings are far more efficient than seed grows simply because they flower more quickly and its easier to get a uniform grow.

4, I don't use AC units unless I really have to, its a case of diminishing returns once you start adding too many lights as then you need a AC and usually a chiller. I didn't run the AC on the grow you mention I took it out as it was stood there doing nothing. I don't like the temperature to swing more than 10 degrees c although that in itself is a compromise as a 5 degree swing would be nearer perfect the closer the light off temps are to the temps when the lights are on the better.

The cooling of the rooms is done by extractor fans usually two large ones which are dual speed this allows me to have a high degree of control over my room temps. I can have the extraction on full speed and the intake fan on full speed if its hot. Or i can slow the intake fan or turn it off. typically on lights off I run the large extractor on slow speed and the intake fan shuts off with the lights.

5, I like to have a minimum of 500 litres per hour through each tub but 1000 litres would be more ideal.

6, To buy in seed form AK47, Chronic, Shiva skunk, Black widow, shit

aleYarok, i think I might do ok! lol look at my answer to Fredster.

here is a recent independent smoke test by Nutella.

The BR is gorgeous to look at, covered in trich's, almost all the bud is purple with only slight hints of green and little orange hairs. I feel guilty breaking any of them up! looks very like some royal purple haze i had from the clubs in cali. I'd say this smells better though! There is a sweetness to it, but its also very exotic. Reminds me of something my wife would use in the bath. Not many strains have a smell as interesting, certainly never seen anything like it in A'dam coffee shops.

It tastes as good as it smells, the flavour comes through nicely and is as smooth as pot gets. The cure is perfect too, buds break apart with ease, leaving tacky fingers :)

I find it hard to judge high as im always smoking, but this seemed to knock me right out when i smoked it this morning.

I cant find any new dried bud shots so here are a few from my feminised f7s showing the variation in colours.

heath, your signature says you have never seen a 1 lb plant indoors before.......

1st run in mpb's - 1 3/4 lb's off of one plant.....

Lol you misread the quote, its another grower telling me its impossible to get 1 pound+ a plant not me saying its impossible, I have been doing it for years.

It looks like you missed the yields I posted up the Chiesel weighed in at 76 0z using 1500w of power and the V3 weighed 56 0z using 900w of power.

Cheers copperfacedave glad you stopped by

Heath,
Thanks for all the info!I like how you represent efficient simplicity , and your name seems to be a play on that , since the other Heath Robinson designed things that were overcomplicated.Brilliant! Do you use r.o. water? My water has about 270 ppms of hardness so I use r.o.With ionic would I need to add calmag , or would you suggest tap and their hardwater formula?

Heath,
what week did you start using pk 13/14 , and for how long? Do you lower your base ec when adding pk 13/14 , and do you flush at the end or lower your ec in the last week? Do you think that lava rocks and or gravel could be used in your system. You are very generous and unselfish with your knowledge and truly inspiring! thanks

cheers cyat if I were you I would try the tap water and the hard water formula first. if you find you need to use Reverse Osmosis (RO)then switch nutrients to Canna Aqua as it is a more complete formula but is a 2 part but still simple to use, although I think you will be fine with the Ionic. :)

Missed your last questions, my system is perpetual the plants are 32 days apart and I harvest every 32 days so the PK is in the system all the time. I dont ever flush as my EC levels are low compared to most. I typically run an EC of 1.2 including the PK.

I haven't personally used Lava rock but I know others have with great success if you use gravel dont use sharp gravel as this can injure the roots and stem look for a substrate which is at least pea size. another good substrate I use is diatomaceous earth which has the added advantage of killing any creepy crawlies in the root zone.

Greetings Heath,
I was using canna coco ab ,and they suggested that I add 200-300 ppm of calmag, since I am using r.o water.Would the canna aqua need the calmag too?If I could use ionic hardwater and ditch the r.o. water ,I would use a lot less water. That would be alot less wasteful.Much respect

Thats tight! So you dont drain you res ever?I vegged before with aquaponics 375ppm continous flow gravel lava beds.My best at hydro, it worked amazing then went down fast.I did the oildri ( small size diatomaceus earth) layered with soil, handwaterd 2 galbags. It worked ok , but the d.e stays pretty wet.Are you using large d.e. pieces like diatomite? I drink the food grade d.e , have for about 3 years.Do you do 24/7 flow with the d.e?I know this is a lot of questions but I want to talk to you since we are both online now.Would you use the same containers if running a veg room, so you could pop them in the flower room when ready?Respect

cyat try the grow first without the RO unit thats the point of using the hard water nutrients.

I drain the rez every 2 weeks.

The diatomaceus earth i use is the large size chips maybe 1/2 to 1 inch in size.

I run the pump 24/7 if you turn off the recirculating system the Dissolved oxygen (DO) levels drop as this is the main mechanism for adding DO.

I veg in the same inner pots as used in flower this eliminates transplant shock and allows the flower room to be on 12/12 permanently which increases productivity.

Karma Genetics great to have you on board
