What's new

stumped, it's time for some help!

This is my third and last round on some bag seed and I'm totally stumped on this problem I"m having. I'm beginning to think it's not my fault. This dang strain is just to finicky.

I have a feeling this strain is not suited for indoor growing.

The problem is no matter what the nute strength is I'm getting what appears to be nute burn.

I have same problem through veg but not nearly as bad as when I put into flower.

How long has this problem been going on?

For quite sometime.

Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents)

No I'm growing in a 3x3x8 Closet.

What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...)

Five gallon DWC.

What STRAIN are you growing?

Bag Seed.

What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?)

Clone.

What is the age of your plants?

This plant has been vegging for 4.5 months

How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco, soiless etc..)

Hydroton the whole time.

How tall are the plants?

32"

What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?

Flower.

What Technique are you using?

Super crop is all.

What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.)

Hydroton.

What is the Water temperature?

72*

What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy?

White, no slime good and healthy.

What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless)

GH nutes flora series - Grow micro and bloom.

How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*

This is where it's getting tricky. I was using the recommended dose as listed on their website on my first grow but it was burning the hell out of my plants This is now my third grow with the same strain. On my second grow I was giving them less around 900 ppm and still burning. Now on my third grow I haven't given them more than 750ppm and as low as 450 ppm, the damage seems less but it's still there and that's half the recomended dose.

How often are you feeding? (If using soiless)

I Change the res every 10 days, top off with pH'd water and on occasion I will top off with bloom nutes just to get the ppm back up a bit.

How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless)

Same answer as above.

If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?

1 week after switching to 12+12.

What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)

I add micro first and mix. I add bloom next and mix. Then I add bloom and mix some more.

What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using.

Hanna grow check meter and it measures in PPM.

What is the pH of the "Tank"?

5.8

How often are you testing your pH/PPM/EC/TDS?

Mine is always in the tank monitoring 24/7.

Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equipment?

I calibrate once per month and have pH and PPM pens as well. Every time I calibrate I check them against the pens and vise verse.

When was your last watering?

If you mean res change, that was 6 days ago but I top off with fresh water everyday.

What is your water temps?

72*

When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)

How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water
replace with clean water and nutrients?

Every 10 days.

What size bulb are you using?

400 watt HPS for bloom and 6500k CFL for veg.

How old is the bulbs you are using?

7 months on the HPS.

What is the distance to the canopy?

12"

What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)?

42%

What is the canopy temperature?

76* - 80* depending on the weather outside.

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range)

As low as 72* at night and as high as 80 during the day.

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)

I got a 530 cfm inline pulling air through my cool tube and it's venting to the attic and I got two 60 cfm hydrofarm blowers venting to the attic as well for a total of 650 cfm. with passive intakes.

Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?

I got the full 650 cfm running through the whole light cycle with passive intakes. At night I just have the 2 hydrofarm blowers for a total of 120 cfm turning on every hour for 15 min.

Is the fan blowing directly at plants?

No but I have a small fan that is constantly blowing over the tops of my plants.

Is your water HARD or SOFT?

Hard and anywhere between 650 to 950 ppm.

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?

I have a water distiller that I use to make water for my plants.

If using tap water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS of the water right out of the tap?

If using RO,Distilled, mineral water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS without any additives?

0 PPM

Are you using water from a water softener?

No.

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When?
Are plant's infected with pest's

I lollipoped a week before I put it into flower.

I super cropped all through veg.

No chemicals.

No pests.

I would appreciate any help or advice you can throw my way.

Peace.

mate, can I ask to see a pic of your whole plant? with a 4 month veg she must be huge. I would suggest that the manufacturers guide is based on feeding a much smaller plant (ie one with a 4 week veg)

I'm not a hydro guy, so please wait for someone else to chime in, but I would go and find a thread with a plant as big as yours and find out what the feed regime was like... yours must be almost tree sized ;)

I would have agree with Jamie, Your not feeding enough.

The overall yellowing of your leaves shows that its hungry and needs a boost in food. I also noticed your running a 400w hps and your plants have vegged for 4.5 months??? Snap us a pic of your entire plant so we can see where most of the problems are showing up. A 400w does not have very much penetration power for very lage plants. If the leaves are not getting proper light, they will yellow and die. I think i'm seeing this in some of your pics.

It's not that big, it's only 32" inches tall. I super cropped her the whole time she was in veg to keep her as short as I could and a little during bloom. I'll post a cpl of pics when she first went into flower. You can sea a big difference health wise.

hmm thats confusing eh? your head must be spinning mate

to look at her... there's a lot of plant to support and I would still have said feed her more...

BUT you say she doesnt like it and so that's a no-go til we can figure it out

whats up with what appears to be a big fan underneath the plant? is that thing powerful enough to be causing wind burn? (lol might not even be a fan, just looks like one ;) )

The first pictures you posted are they from the bottom of the plant or the top?

Are the problems happening on the tops of the plant at all?

She was a mother plant. I'm finishing off this strain and I got some NL# 5 seedlings going right now in veg. I'm just waiting for this to finish before I start with a new strain.

He are some pics of the plant present time. This is all I have for now.

What week are you into flower? Whats your current ppm your running?

Have you tried going up to 900-1000ppm since your into flower? thats what I used to run without a issue in a dwc. Even when just switching them to flower.

I know you said it gets worse when you go higher, but how high did you try?

Yeah it's a box fan and it's a new addition to my grow room so I know that's not the problem because I've been dealing with this issue for quite some time now.

I have passive intakes and it helps to move air up through the slats for better air flow.

The pics are from the top of the plant and the sides. The problem is basically from the bottom to the top and everywhere in between.

Read my answer just above the the picture of the nute calculator I posted.

I've been through the whole range and it seems the lower I get the better they look. I agree that they definitely look like they need some food but problem will only get worse.

I just curious if there a certain strains that aren't meant to be grown indoors. I have the same strain growing outside and it's as healthy as can be.

I got to do a res change in three days and I'll bump it back up to 900 PPM but the first signs of it getting worse I'll have to drop it back down because she'll fry.

I gotta get some shut eye, I'll continue the convo in the morn.

Thank you for the help everybody.

Peace.

I think the infirmary would be much more accurate if it was a dartboard with diagnoses on it.

I don't see an N deficiency there. N is an overall yellowing of the lower leafs. The entire leaf goes yellow and when it is completely yellow, it will drop off with the slightest tug. The yellowing in your pictures looks like a Mag deficiency -- it's from the edges in and the veins are still green. It also looks like it could be a potassium deficiency.

Are you using a cal mag supplement?

You should ask the hydro guys about your pH. Seems a little high to me. I run that high in coco. If you have a pH issue, no nutrient changes are going to help.

I think roll it up has the best guide on diagnosing deficiencies. google rollitup self diagnose and you should hit it.

best of luck

I say flush her first...

for a few days or like a week?

No I'm not using any supplements and from what I've read time and time again 5.8 pH is spot on for hydro.

your roots are super healthy. i wouldnt worry about that. do you use hygrozyme? that shit is bomb for hydro supplements. def check out some cal/mag tho kinda looks like it to me

Yeah I'm not worried about the root system I just threw in that pic just to show how healthy it is. I also have and have used hydrozyme but those roots have never seen any of it.

Cal/mag huh. I was just at the hydro store the other day and looked right at a bottle but passed. I would think there is plenty of cal/mag in the flora micro but I could be wrong.
