yeah i had the same kinda issue w/ the sagging.....i just dont fill the bag to the top and roll the top 2 inches down to form a sturyier lip/sidewall......make'z em alittle more ridgid.....

BUT if U go to PACK them in a small place they will conform and mold to the areas diminsion......

they basically hold the same rectangular shape of that of oblong waste basket....and U can line those up like little soldierz all day long......

So far I'm happy w/ my CHEAP smart pot wannabeeezzzz

I',m gunna gunn my entire Karma ~SourJack test thread in them.......

I stole your idea and planted a few plants in these shopping bags today, I was absolutely blown away at how much soil they hold, I counted about 6 gallons of soil. Almost too much for my indoor plants but Im gonna see how it goes, hopefully I didnt waste my soil.

you didnt waste your soil..mine have a massive rootmass...but one question with using smartpots do you need to water the plants more then regular pots?

When in smart pots I just watered as normal and did nothing different then I did to the regular ones.

using smart pots

I always have a saucer under the pot and if there is some runoff my plants usually drink it up with an hour.

FYI - this may or may not be the same bag as Wally has for $1 - I bot a bag for $1 at Family Dollar (like Dollar General, Big Lots...) Anyway it's black and it has handles and a loop like an oven mitt for hanging. I measured it out, 5 gal soil fills it to about 1" from top, and the filled bag measures 11.5" tall, and 12.5" x 11.5" across the top, almost a perfect cube. I'll be trying it out soon & will post a follow up if and when I remember or someone prompts me.

Ninja, are you gonna use them soon? What do you have planned for the new bags?

Yup, my babies will be going into the new bags as soon as i flip them, which should be any day. I just need to get off my keister, take some clones, and flip em :p

oh, and find the power cord to my 600w ballast :p

Theyre pretty nice. double/triple stitched, handles AND an extra loops for hanging. At least at the one we have here, they were only 50 cents a piece and blue.

Using FFOS and perlite mix that has been working great for me.

So glad this shyt iz workIN....out for peepz......
I(t'z asimple idea .....that workz......

I'm thinking about checking this idea out. Does it work better than standard pots? I was researching air pots, smart pots, and think I want to upgrade to something on my next grow. Some more pictures would be great. My only question was, any ideas on where to find rectangular trays for underneath to catch the water?

Great thread bumps for that...
I just got on the train, and last year I bought about 30 of these fabric bags from a local video store, for like a dollar or .50 a piece, I got 30 of them, thinking that they looked like they were a little more than a gallon or so..well hell they are more like 3 gallons..Can't wait to try them myself. Currently using grow bags, (the plastic bags) and am sick and tired of water just rushing down the sides and out. I was really impressed w/ the bag and the way it handled watering. I over watered a full bag on purpose, and yes it will drain through the bottom if the bottom is in contact w/ a surface, but I use and plan on just placing them in nursery trays, the kind that come w/ the clone domes and stuff, and it looks like I will be able to squeeze 3 of them in each tray. Next batch of clones are going into the bags, can't wait.

I used these bags on my last indoor auto run and it worked great. Roots pokin out everywhere. I divided each bag, which held 5 or so gallons into quadrants and ran sixteen under a 250 Hps and it was killer. If I ran long season gals I would do it too, only one plant per bag. Great, cheap, easy and they fucking work. Yahoo. I have green bags outside right now with autos. They are super stealthy and with the handles are totally portable.

Is it pretty simple to clean these up once used and re-use them again? Or do the roots do a number on the material and make them more a one time use?
