My plants are hitting the lights

Hi, i have a problem, i'm growing blueberry in a tight space (65cm tall) and now , two and a half week into flowering my plants are soon hitting the bulbs and they are getting to hot (they already burned some before rearranging). My questions are, will the plants ever stop growing height-wise, if so when? Do you think i should try to bend them over some (i did a little LST in vegatitive phase but lost controll since i could not monitor the growth from day to day). Or could they take a topping this late? I'm just worried they wont recover since the plants dont seem to thrive tremendously in there i'm worried i will only chop bud-sites and not gain any new until the flowerings done.

What would you gyus do?

I'm having the same problem.. I'm at 2 weeks in tho... and I lsted them.. but i have way more main colas growing.

its never to late man!

oh and i believe stretching should stop by the 2-3rd week.

What strain of blueberry are you growing? I got DJ Shorts Blueberry going.. check out my grow journal in my signature.

I had to chop the top off an ogre late in flowering, like around week five. She just kept stretching and stretching. Came back after about five days or so and found her a few inches from the 1k!! So we topped her, just about a foot, and the other buds grew so freaking big its insane.

With that said, I would recommend pinching/bending/tying the tops down. Topping the plant may not work that well for all strains.

Haha! Sounds like you've got the stretchy sativa leaning pheno! I had to use a combination of LST and supercropping the first time I ran a batch of blueberry. They can range from short/squat to stretchy monsters.

For the love of God, do not top them. You can be plenty aggressive with the bending and crushing. Some stem breaking may occur, but don't fret. Just keep them stabilized (ie. a splint or 'cast') if it happens. Do try to crush the points where you intend on bending. That'll decrease your chances of breakage.

Sorry buddy, but they'll get a wee taller still :p Do the best ya can.

Yes! I think you are totally right. I just kicked a boy out. He was not even half the size of the others and much bushier.

Well, i cant even be sure its bluberry i'm growing since the seed are from a random guy. It should be DP Blueberry (and early in the veg phase the leaves were some blue in color, now they are the same green as usual ) but my leaves are nothing like FrozenGuy's. Mine are much wider with fat "fingers". This is also an indication of sativa/indica right?

Bending it is.

Thanks for the input people.

Take care!

I have had (rarely) DP Blueberry that veg with purplish hues to their leaves. Freaking gorgeous. When I do not select genetics and just have a bunch of randoms (like when I pop packet seeds or my own crosses), I get varied widths on "fingers" as well. However, the highs are pretty similar in that they 'rollercoaster', are amazingly long lasting, and induces a sense of euphoria. The mind/body highs aren't very distinguishable (to me and friends, at least) and feels like a well balanced hybrid no matter what pheno we smoke. There are subtle differences, of course.

hey man, i had the same problem. i just supercropped my ladies. i did it up until like 4-5 weeks into flowering. the plants that i supercropped definitely had bigger nugs, and yielded a significant amount more than the non-supercropped ones.

yeah, my first grow was BB. They stretched beyond belief. Just take the stem and bend it down...it should pop..or snap...either way...as long as it doesn't tear the outer skin you are good. It should grow a big nodule where the bend occured. Because you are able to get better light coverage to the buds, you should be able to grow a nice top. Buds all over the place.

This is also called "supercropping"

I have ran into this problem a couple times- 1st time I did a light bend after they were fairly well into flower.. it didnt go too bad, they finally stopped the vertical growth and finished well. 2nd time they were too tall early into flowering. We started bending and tying down the tops so they wouldnt burn. This caused them to continue to grow vertically as I think it confused them in thinking they had to keep creating a top. It's kinda hard to explain, but it ended up being vine like and extremely slow to produce. Ended up having to scrap them after 8 weeks and barely visible bud spots..I would recommend a slight bend, but still trying to leave a definite main cola..

This is a good lesson, i think i screwed up this time. Past week has been a nightmare, every morning i have to tie down 5 tops a plant that have been stretching 5cm the last 24 hours and it just wont slow down. So now i have seen to it to have the main stem and top at the peak hight. I definitely think the fact that i haven't kept a main top confused these plants. Lets see how it will go from here.

Supercropping in flower won't kill them but it will delay flowering like you wouldn't believe. The only time I had this problem (again with a hard core sativa pheno) I gently twisted her stem around three stakes set in the pot around the edges. Go at a steep angle and she won't even notice it, and you can cut a foot off the vertical stretch. And check out your light fixture and see if you can cut some overhead off and get that baby further into the air.
