Was this an answer to my question or just the morning chant ritual?

Welcome straintester to this thread. Don't have time right now to link up some books as there are many but would suggest reading as much of this thread from the beginning and feel free to ask questions of anyone either in public or PM.

And just start chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo any chance you have; this will help open any doors and get you what exactly you are looking for now in your life.

Welcome again and hope you hang around enough to truly understand the philosophy of Nichiren's Buddhism and how it can truly change your life and those around you. :artist:

The first thing is to pray. From the moment we begin to pray, things start moving. The darker the night, the closer the dawn. From the moment we chant daimoku with a deep and powerful resolve, the sun begins to rise in our hearts. Hope—prayer is the sun of hope.... To chant daimoku each time we face a problem, overcoming it and elevating our life-condition as a result—this is the path of "changing earthly desires into enlightenment," taught in Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism.

first i need to thank everyone who has chanted to free me from myself

and in particular some very kind souls that have led me upon this journey, your kind vibe encouraged me as i took this journey

I have share some testimony because

A) im not crazy

B) this wasn't a cheap or ex ticket to some faux salvation

C) my legitimate and lifelong diagnosis from western medicines were that the disease (bi-polar.suicidal depression) i harbored was not treatable and my prognosis at 15 was death or permanent hospitalization by 16

please realize that there was no amount of self discovery or other help that that didn't give my mind what it needed to understand to be ok by there was still an underlying 'hole' in my heart that tore at me regardless of what I did

I never felt good for the good things i did no matter how much joy they brought or how much they transformed lives

and i for decades gave all i had in faith that i would be free and while i never gave u faith my heart grew weary and i was weary and if my life were to measured by the light of my soul the days for me left on earth were very few, if in truth that part of me was not dead already

so as much as I dont want to to share some testimony for the fear of ridicule from those who suffer from the doubt., nam myoho renge kyo humbles me to a place of compassion and fills me with the courage to share

i inherited it, the poison that led my fathers uncle, my father, my fathers nephew and my cousin joh joseph and mym cousin teddy to commit suicide

and yet this is a very small tip of a very big iceberg of hells I have passed through

but this stain on my heart regardless of what I gave and how much i did or how much i seemed to understand I could not myself create the self love I needed to get past this stain and it was keeping in those hells

no matter what i did

i passed through those hells here on earth (or i actaulyl saw them, the personal prison) on each persons face and passed them and actually saw pas their prison and gave unconditional love (via hug nugs and other true gestures)

now I see what I hae done that was done for me but i didnt get

and low and behold

it was almost like there was a "curse" that was cast upon my bloodline with the curse that no ONE prisoner will free themselves for this eternal hell was broken by the unlimited compassion of love that someone made for me

and I remember who and when .. easily some 30 years ago

dont know if they were buddhist but definitely bodhisattva

and I remember the feeling they put in my heart that directed me to right and wrong ( i was a little vulnerable child)

and i know i search to lose this poison and i did so by giving compassion and trying to humble myself to the truth

and so it was revealed

and so it has set me free

i know so very little but feel that i have so much to learn because there are so many more trapped in prisons who need the sacrifice of the (compassion) bodhisattva to free them and the wisdom of the buddha so they know the message is true in their body mind and soul

i walked a good walk in light of the many hells i endured for me and those who suffered before me and i was given the gift of seeing that connection and knowing it was true and seeing how it effected the very decisions that saved my life

thank you from the very bottom of my heart and thank you for this opportunity to know i can do and pray to keep this miracle alive

and for those who want the unbelievable freedom that im expressing and seems so foreign

god honest truth i was brought to this path and nurtured in the way of bodhisattva and saved by the love of others through the chant of nam myoho renge kyo and all the actions that led to this point revealed as if there were a blueprint to salvation placed there to free me

and I still dont know how to properly chant :)

the true love in the heart of others that changes this world is fucking real, and i finally see feel know this full circle and its no longer a notion that exists in hope and faith

true love is here, it has been here before we were born and it wants to be shared in the hearts of all

nam myoho renge kyo

without this gift i fear the spirit of Bodhisattva would be lost to me because i could was dying hard and fast inside and even in faith i never had the facilities to fix this on my own

and as i have so received i shall so give

and please don't let me forget, that marvelous plant that returned the gift of bodhisattva in such a manner that it brought me to here. yes plants are our friends and they vibrate with a like energy that seems to carry the message of nam myoho renge kyo when the words of man cannot

Thank you so much.
I will do just that then.
There have been many people who have switched over to Buddhism whom I greatly admire
I've tried reading a "A course in miracles" by Marianne Wiiliamson but it is so intense that I get somewhat frustrated reading it.
I too hope i stick around long enough to understand the philosophy. Most of the books I have read have been leading this direction so I would love to commit to something ritualistic to help me keep balanced with the world around me and raise my own vibration to help the collective consciousness.

lol its so funny you say that because in retrospect, being the AD.HD, bipolar, learning disabled problem child i dont think i could have every approached the teachings in a traditional manner and been able to get the message i needed to get

it was really beyond my grasp without the love of another to put it in my heart first so i could read in from my heart to my mind because from that which passed my eyes and ears I could not be freed

and to know that this exists

like the sun in the sky

and water in the sea

it is a gift beyond anything i wish to attempt to define

and perhaps it was what i needed personally to be freed

so please let me dissolve all predefinitions of how nam myoho renge kyo worked in my life so that it may find you in the same manner it found me

with a simple wish that you do find the same gift within and for yourself that brought me here today

it does add a whole new dimension to the word buddha

I first heard that as a kid in the 80's as a term for the weed that started this journey and how true and deep a meaning it had

perhaps it was a hippie blessing, through buddha may you find buddha

guess there might be something to those crazy old hippies who discovered the reality of truth though love for nature

:) keep on keeping on and thank you

weird and strainmaster,

To hear what it sounds like to chant go to this link:

http://www.sgi-usa.org/newmembers/resources/chantingpractice.php

This is the SGI web site and many on this thread are members of this organization, but not necessarily everyone, and it has many good resources about Nichiren Buddhism and also locations where you can hook up with other chanters to see/chant to a Gohonzon which is one awesome experience.

This thread enchants me everytime I read it but unfortunately I am not a Buddhist. In fact I don't practice any type of religion but have always been fascinated with buddhism as it is the closest to my beliefs.
To find a group of people who share the same type of spiritual beliefs AND an interest in cannabis sounds too good to be true.
I'd love to be a part of this group if you'll have me.

Where should I start?
Is there a book that I can start reading so I can join this discussion?
I would love to practice some form of spirituality on a daily bases and have others to share it with.

Hello Straintester,

You're first post sounds very similar to my first post when I started here. I suggest you start by just reading this thread and saying the words:

Nam (like Nam in Vietnam)
Myoho (pronounced MEEE YO HOE)
Renge (pronounced RHEN GAY)
Kyo (pronounced KEY YO)

After you read the thread and develop some substantive questions, please feel free to post them and just keep posting at-will! All it takes is a seeking spirit and the rest is up to you.

You can also read books like: The Buddha In Your Mirror, The Buddha In Your Rearview Mirror. However, so much is posted on the thread that if you just pick a number and skip to the next hundred pages and just skip around the thread reading anything and everything you will find many things to pique your interests.

I salute you on making your first post and will here along the way if you need anything else! If you don't like reading much, just peruse the shorter posts and you will still get to where you want to go.

Wishing you all the best,
MyohoDisco!

Thanks again.
This is most helpful.
Believe it or not I don't have speakers hooked up but will soon enough and will listen to it. I'm interested in hearing how it differs from the sounds of the chanting monks which I have and love.

How sweet.

I'm so glad you posted on how it is pronounced.:thank you:
I wanted to ask but it sounded so trivial a question.
Tomorrow I am going to go to a large book store and see what they have.
I've been on a spiritual journey for some time now but needed some kind of daily ritual besides journaling that reminded me of its importance in my life.
Its too easy to get distracted by other things in life that don't really have as much value as this does, so this is of significant importance to me.

I look forward to sharing and learning with you all.

Hey Straintester, great to have you here...You have already started the journey by being open-minded...:joint:

Hey Strain and everyone else, if you wanna check a local chanting group please check out this link: http://www.sgi-usa.org/sgilocations/

I used that link when I asked Babbabud, PasstheDoobie and Socal - Hey where do I go from here... I was reading and becoming familiar with this Buddhism and I needed to just meet up with others that would know a little bit more in my local area than me AND I FOUND THE MOST AMAZING GROUP OF PEOPLE! Similar to this thread, SGI members who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo! are my friends and allies in life just like my beloved Chanting Growers.

Weird is my newest friend and I'm gonna do my best to help everyone I can to help me and the entire world realize dreams/ambitions/world peace and any other goal under the SUN! This is the Buddhism of the Sun and a new dawn has arrived right here on ICMAG! I'm so in tune and connected with this thread that I still come here everyday and pledge my unflagging support for everyone's happiness and prosperity.

This Buddhism is about winning and I'm becoming a victor in my own life. Feels good to be a part of this flourishing goodness and I send you all a heartfelt salute!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING YOU (YEAH I'M TALKING TO YOU)!
