Hey Dr. Know,
Great Plants Bro,
One of My Friends ( Now deceased) who lived on Maui told Me in 1977 that He and His Brother brought the first seed to the Hawaiian Islands from Korea in the 50s. He was Kenneth Roland Neizman, also a famous painter( I do have one His works) Anyway, He was quite the character. We hung out on the beach together, for months, me smokin and sippin Primo beer, Him usually just drinking. I did get Him to hit off some Puna Butter Bud I scored.
Anyway hope that helps. Hawaiian may very well be from a Korean landrace Captain Kenny brought to the islands. DP

Nice Plants Dr. Know,

That trellis job is done unbelievably well. Strong as shit . That is a zero chance approach to the broken branches issue. Very Nice Job on the garden. Good luck with the finish.

Greetings Everyone!

An update from the farm while I'm in town. Here's one of my Sour Diesels, now the largest after the Purple Kush x Trainwreck gift seed plant went male.

"Snakes in a grow"

Where's Samuel L. Jackson when I need him?

Is anyone else having a snake problem this year?

I can live with gopher snakes and such, but this year has produced a bumper crop of rattlesnakes on the property. Is there something I can spray? ;o)

I have 40 acres and use only about three for the garden and camp. Four times so far this year I've had to kill a rattlesnake in the camp. Just got another Friday morning, right next to the folded up light dep tarp, six feet from where I park the truck. I don't care if they stay on the other 37 acres and I've heard and seen many snakes walking around. We give each other a wide, respectful distance and that's usually it. They kill the mice and gophers, of which I have many. If a rattler is in camp, that's it though. Time to get medieval. The pic below shows the rattlesnake track going under the back of the truck. Came out under the driver's door and camped out by the tarp.

hey bro around here we have water moccasins and they dont play. around here its common knowledge to get out the old fertilizer spreader at the end of spring and spread out pelletized sulphur. its smells like someone shit in your yard till it rains the first time. but i promise ya a snake cant stand the shit it burns them much like acid does our skin. it wont hurt your grass or anything else one application lasts about 2 months depending on your rainfall. if you will google snake repellent and read the contents of them you will see they are 95 percent sulphur hope this helps.

Dr.Purpur your story sounds very plausible to me. For years I always thought Hawaiian genetics came via Mexico.....but after growing a few Hawaiian varieties I have yet to come across any with obvious Mexican heritage.
Southeast Asia was the next logical location in my mind, never occurred to me to think of the Korean peninsula. Thank you very much for sharing that story.

ianSF you definitely are not alone. Its been almost a weekly occurrence for me this year which is highly unusual for this area.
I try relocate any rattlesnakes I come across but I have a rule, if I see the same snake more than once, its curtains for the snake(unless its breeding size).
