hi bigherb

neville has been very upfront and quite honest i love his approach ,the fact he's admitted his haze stock comes from SAMS says it all about his character

its nice Neville joined the forums and shared some of the haze history from his point of view.

Neville never claimed to have created Haze , Skunk etc himself.
He posted his males A and C are from seeds of haze bros pure haze grown in the US back in '69.So seems his stock was indeed from the haze bros' pure haze plants, just got the Haze Bros old seedstock through Sam. HzA and HzC do not come from Sam's seed stock that Sam made after '76.
Fact is Neville did some fine breeding work with Haze over the last 25 years and made almost all of the best hybrids that exist from this special old line. So thanks to his breeding work as well as Shanti's we have several excellent haze hybrids to enjoy that all produce consistent results and are well proven to growers worldwide . Haven't grown Sam's versions yet but I tell you this..a good Nevil's/Shanti's haze sure has all the effects Sam described the best 70s haze had :dance013:

Thanks to Sam, Nevil and Shanti we are enjoying some of the finest oldschool genetics , today. And this is what really matters so we all owe so much to all three of them and its an honor to have them online and active

Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid
I've decided to start a new thread. It's a subject close to the hearts of many growers/breeders. It's something we need to take action on, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. We need to put aside our prejudices and ego's in this quest. It's all about the end result.

I'll give you my understanding of how to work with this variety.

As I said before, I got a total of 7 plants from the original seed stock. They were all different. The Original female (the one that I didn't keep a clone of) and Haze male A, may have been siblings, but just as likely not. Yet there was a common Haze like thread among all of them. This tells me that there was likely no pure haze among them. Haze did not improve when put back to itself as I was told and later discovered. People who think that B.C. is the hope for the future ( if it can be resurrected) are likely to be disappointed. A NL5xHzA would be the best mate for it to test this out. Haze males A+C were at best half brothers, but certainly shared a common ancestor, so my guess is that the inbreeding co-efficient to the haze ancestor in Nevil's Haze is at most 37.5%.
So if we want to go back to a Haze hybrid, we are looking for one not directly related to A or C. So don't talk to me about S.S.H. or Jack Herrer or Diesel or Sage (all the same plant). Double up HzC! I'm not saying that excellent plants can't be produced from inbreeding what we have, but we are going for the Ultimate (Grail). If anybody pinches this name I'll be pissed off.

What ever the legend behind the seeds that I got from Sam, It is my belief that the qualities in the Original Haze that we admire so much, come from Thai. I grew up in Western Australia and started smoking in the early 70's. Most of the Australian cannabis was descended from Thai and was grown in Queensland. Perth is as close to Thailand as it is to Queensland and W.A. got more than it's fair share of Imported Thai. I remember one batch was unparalleled and Haze A male's best progeny, reminded me of it. The guy was selling ounces of it for $30, but he had bags of what I now realise was loose resin, for $60. I wish that I had bought it.
Hence my desire to scour Australia for the best descendants of the old Thai imports to put back to the Haze.

I think thai was the one that Sam had so much trouble with he gave up on her. Seems like I remember reading he couldn't get the intersex out of it.

A grail would be mucho nice though...although I have always felt that NL5xHzA was already a grail.

If the is some good Original Haze/ Skunk out there, or any other Haze not from A or C,
I'd be delighted to look at it. The only source of Haze that's not from mine that I'd believe in would be Sam's or from that old crew in Santa Cruz. Good dope transcends personalities in my book.

I have been looking for the old crew. If there is any left here I will find it. This could be the ultimate strain hunt.

Might be an idea for folks to use the 'quote' button when posting other people's words as it can confuse a lot of people ;)

I seem to remember one batch had a number of years mixed together something like '66,'67,'68. A prominent ancestor was a thing called "Burning Bush". If Sam didn't grow burning bush then the person that did will be able to tell us more.
Everything useful was from before 1970. The one plant that came up from '70 batch, Omega, was at best 25% haze and didn't make the grade.

this is aquote from neville referring too the haze seed stock you gave him

SAMS im very curious if you could tell us what the labeling of '66'67'68 means?

ive never heard these dates mentioned from you as far as i remember the earliest mentioned i recall has been 69

Hi bigherb

I wouldnt be surprised if the 66-70 were actually haze development dates ;)
Sam always said it was 70-75 , after shanti mentioned the '69 date Sam started using it that as well..

and now..I need to learn more about Burning Bush!..

now its getting interesting

i havnt a clue as ive said those dates are a first for me ,id lov to hear SAMS thoughts

below is sams post about the burning bush correcting raco i believe

FYI,
Burning Bush was an Original Haze with a strong Thai influence. I named it.
There were only Two Haze Brothers and they did not go to NYC and visit HT.
Joe Haze is not a Haze brother. The Haze Brothers did not grow Indica's, they grew Sativa's.
They did grow my Skunk #1 after 1980, because it was easier and faster for them.
-SamS (who was there)

could this add to the thought of mns haze having colombian X thai parents

hi bigherb

wonder since when the Burning Bush exists

It was sold back in 81 , before Sam got to Holland but no info before that date and on whether it was a HzBros selection or Sams
Reading all the info from nev and taking into account the dating of his haze seed, Burning Bush must have probably existed since the mid/late 60s

LOL.

Ive done the research on where Haze Brothers lived, and Sam next door in Santa Cruz . My take is, they lived on the hill area, across the highway and a few miles south of where I spent My summer vacations year after year.(Rio Del Mar Beach) Im saying I could have walked up the hill, crossed the freeway, took a right, went 2-3 miles, took a left, went up the hill and Knocked on Sams Door. Deer park is right there too people! How weird is that? Deer Park- Chemdog family.... I live east of there
