Filipino Grow!

hi smokey, direct to soil.. read about dubi goals to stabilize phils cannabis genetics (baguio gold, kalinga/violeta)

will these work in urban sites here in phils (outdoor) you see one of my goal is to have a plant that can survive outdoor (without those indoor lights and 25C requirements, expensive elec. bills :(

and most of the time i dont have the time hehe, to care for them.

when i was in highschool i remember our neighbor in my province growing 1 - 3 sativas (i assume) in their backyard, they were not worried about the heat or even too much rain.. and it was healthy.
yield maybe poor, but they really didnt care coz it were just for herbal/medicinal purposes (same here)

do you think i can find something like that?

thanks:)

I clean forgot to mention, Sundance, that a few years back I had a very nice harvest from Kali Mist and California Orange Bud seeds planted direct into swamp tubes. Both of those plants had some indica heritage, so I take back my sweeping statement that only 100% sativa strains can grow well near the 12/12 equator.

Right now I have some robust landrace Thai plants from low budget beans produced by World of Seeds, and from Seedsman, and they are stretching like crazy even as I tie them down. Far costlier Hawaiian Snow and Super Lemon Haze seeds planted at the same time and place were either eaten by bugs, flowered to soon, or shrivelled and died early on, so for a 100% outdoor tropical cultivator like me, the landraces have generally fared better than hybrids in the heat, high humidity and year-round 12/12 light cycle here at the equator.

It's great to see this thread revived. I have many Filipino friends and family, I hope to grow outdoors there some day in the future. My Cherry Bomb is originally 'Maui Wowee' from Hawaii. It's hard to say where it came from before that, but it closely resembles some 'chocolate thai' we used to get in NYC sometimes in the late 70's to early 80's. Seedbay has CB seeds listed right now, I'd be mighty curious to see how it would grow in the Philippines!

i remember starting this thread years ago when i was back in the philippines! i just never had the space or time to pull a proper outdoor grow off. i did however think about it quite a bit.

sundancedtrip, let's try and get you started! i was visiting a couple months back and the herb was such crap. such a shame! got some bomb hash from sagada though, best ever actually. wish i had snapped some shots. but really the herb was like dirt. it seems like ever since the elections, everyone is dry.

anyways, this grow all depends on your budget, space and the quality you are after. i don't think it is wise to do direct into the ground unless you dig out the soil and replace it ith a soil mix or enrich it with fertilizer. you might as well grow in soil containers so you can move easily and not have to worry about prepping the ground. you said you are growing in an urban area? are you growing in an abandoned lot? your backyard? direct sun all day? is your spot safe and not frequented by people? i've always wanted to grow BIG in the province! there are just so many people in manila! i feel like you could only do it on a rooftop! or if you have a big backyard with high walls? if you have a private space to grow you're half way there.

you can buy cheap and good soil and pots in bf or near white plains. as for seeds, you might as well try some seeds from a good stash you got in the past. that is if you save any of those. if you grew out five, you'd probably get a keeper of two. hopefully you don't have too many hermaphrodites as they are prevalent.

then there is the order online route. any predominant sativa strain with good mold and pest resistance would be ideal. nirvana and mandala are good beginner selections.

either way, i think the most attention you will have to give is during the germination and beginning stages of the plant. germinating outdoor direct into soil isn't the best idea as pests and extreme temperatures aren't ideal. i tried long ago and i remember my little seedlings did not fair well. they are like babies anyways, so keeping them inside to sprout and develop a couple nodes would be ideal as they would be more hearty to be let outside and they won't have crazy lanky stretch like if they had been outside with inconsistent light. four cfls should be more than enough to grow out 5 seedlings over a 2-3 week period. if that's out of the question, you just need to be very conscious of your seedlings outside. make sure that if it rains hard to move or if there are pests, cats etc they cannot get to the plant. when the plant is older it will not need so much attention though.

go for it! had a friend bring back some blue widow, perhaps you could give it a go if you have a proper space!

Do you know how easy it is still to get some smoke in Sagada, by any chance? I might be going sometime this year.

Nice to see a grower from the PI . I have traveled to bohol and cebu , I never tried to smoke while i was there ,the laws and constant presence of police dogs in ferry terminals , bus stops...it was too risky for me.. but im glad you guys are overgrowing the Philippines.

Peace

thanks smokey,

will white widow (nirvana) do? here is an over view of my growing place and my limited methods for the sole survivor who is 3 days in a pot.. around 3 inches already and its shell is still intact..???

- direct sun occurs only for 4 - 6 hrs,
- growing in pot
- Outside Temperature is (85F to 90F day) (83F - 85F night)
- germinated in paper towel (this time)
- At night I bring them inside my room, for the aircon 23C, just for 2-3 wks? coz I dont plan on doing it for the rest of their life cycle.
- uses a 60w cool white flourescent 4- 5hr

after 2 - 3 wks i can put her outside already right?

by the way im kind of curios with SSH, ICE and afghan 48 do you think it will be suitable for my sittuation?

hmm too bad your in the states, hehe

this info has helped me alot...i live in hawaii and have been trying to find a strain that will veg significantly at my latitude....the only one ive found so far is arjans haze 1...but its kinda expensive. I was planning on going with nevilles haze but this thread has convinced me to go with seedsman's original haze. Thanks you

you go back often? a grow amongst the pineapples would be lovely. haha. so when you going to put that land to work? haha.

damned tsimis. that really is the problem in the pinas when it comes to growing, too many people and too much talking talking leads to those busts!!!

sundancertip, did you ever get your grow going? i see you got a 400mh. init ano.

lol man it was hot! I switched back to 250hps and brought them outside eventually,

they are at least 4.5ft now, just built a semi stealth cab for them and its not fitting! (i was hesitant to built a 5ft plus coz it would be too obvious in my case)

-1 is flowering for 2weeks now
-1 is just starting

im planning to cut a foot at least if stealth is required( when visitors/relatives present for a a few days)

you're right about growing them inside first and when they are ready to fend for themselves you can just go ahead and put them outside.

I've learned a lot in this first time grow IMHO

when going indoors you can use 14-16 veg and it will still triger flower when you switch to 11-12

in that way you can save electricity bill.. paid $140 last months bill! and thats from $50!

dont be too strict with light leakProof cab(if you cant control it, at least) specially when growing from seeds, otherwise, you will just be growing a spoiled brat plant that will give you tantrums when bothered with petty stuff.

rember these herbs is part of mother natures kingdom which means like us they too have the capacity to adapt and evolve after all.

I have observed this when I was growing the nirvana seeds side by side with a landrace.. I know there's a huge difference in a lot of ways .. but the cannabis genus as far as I know is highly adaptable than other common plants. meet them half way and your good to go!

I know coming from a newbie... yet again just my 2c,

by the way smokey I'm planning to get hold of some baguio gold or kalinga, can you point me to the right direction?

by the way next grow will be

4 hours 250hps
12 hours 100-120w cfl (warmWhite + coolDaylight

I'm hoping this will solve heat and electric bill issue

sundance, much respect! running a 250 hps in the tropics!!! did your bill really jump from 50 to 140 with just the hps? a one horse power air con is equivalent to 750 watts more or less. i don't think there is any need for you to veg with hps. you can just use the fluorescents for vegging, just make sure to train so you can take full advantage of the light. look up LST and supercropping.

as for kalinga and baguio gold, you'll have to make a trip to the mountains to find those seeds otherwise i know dubi from ace seeds is working on kalinga, though they haven't been fully worked with yet. if i were you i'd just focus on the seeds you have now and try to get the most out of it. please do show some pics! let me know if you need any help. always more than happy too.
