What's new

effing HOGS!

Bad news is feral swine dug up my Hawaiian Snows. Nothing left but a snout print. Fackers! 50% loss at this location. Good news is the widows were untouched and have "blown up" nearly 6 feet already and bushy, starting alternate branching. One pheno has incredible vigor and smell and will have a branch pollinated with something stanky for next year. This year has been one setback after another but I still might get a lil headstash, which is all I ask for.

So anyway I have some hog repellent - hot lead: an accurized AR15 with NV scope (wish I had a thermal) and some match ammo. This is a hunting area and there's no closed season or bag limit on feral hogs, and they can be legally shot at night, even using a light (6 Volts max). So me and some buds are gonna have a hog derby. Pork chops taste good. Bacon tastes good. Its on. Feral hogs are a curse; I hope none of y'all have to deal with these destructive creatures. They don't belong in the woods, no.

I do statmando. Shoot every nasty invasive fuker you see, there's no limit on killing them anywhere. During this time of the year, if you can kill the sow her pigs will starve to death. Back in the spring, i killed 2 sows that you could tell from their swollen stomachs that they were full of pigs. They can have 10-12 pigs. I keep a 30-o6 in the truck and i have a personal goal to shoot at least 1 a week.

They destroy the natural enviroment and kill the native animals. The U.S should have a nationwide eradication program with a major effort to kill every single one of them because from Florida to california, they are destroying the enviroment.....and then find the bastard that released the first ones and give him a quick trial and a fair hanging.

Good luck and use hollow points.

Damn I hope we don't get hogs where I live... For more than one reason really.
A few were spotted in a forest some distance away and they were taken down by hunters using nightvision.

Don't want hogs digging up my plots
DEFINITELY don't want hunters lying around in the public forests with nightvision gear when I'm harvesting rofl.

I hope you get a freezer full of meat:)

I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger, and .... uh, make delicious sausage of thee! Pigs in the truck; I got the big one and my bud shot the spotted one. The rest have run off to eat peaches for the time being - peaches are being harvested right now and pigs love them, so the heat seems to be off my pitiful spot for now. I replanted the Haw Snows (already posted a pic elsewhere) with the remainder of the pac, but they won't get as big as the original ones would have, no. The big boar is filthy from being dragged out of the woods with an ATV. Both pigs were boned out and taken to a butcher to be made into sausage. That was a nasty job, but if I kill it, I'm not about to waste the animal. Remember these are walking, snorting, breeding environmental disasters, and to have them in the woods is a curse. I am sure this barely makes a dent in them. There must have been 20 pigs in the group we shot these 2 out of.

He's good eatin stratmandu.

I just put out a dozen poisoned ears of corn and i know i got 3 of the nasty things.

I shot another 1 about 2 weeks ago but I only had a .22 so it didnt kill it right away. I pumped 4 shots into him but he was big. I hope it killed him.

Theyre such a scourge on the land.

With my mastery of snaring techniques, I would make a decent living bagging hogs by the pickup load if I lived in Texas. Also, just the thought of year-round open season on those porkers makes my trigger finger itch, since in these heavily hunted parts, it is rare I get to let fly with my .308 rifle.

Wild hawg country has got to be hunter's paradise fer sure.

That was NOT funny. I love my weed and love to hunt game animals when they are in legal season, but I would never use that word for LEO, nor would I ever dream of hurting or threatening another human being, not for anything under the sun.

Listen, every deputy I've smoked with wishes for weed to be decriminalized as much as I do. Please don't hijack my post and turn it into a flame-fest. I just smoked some very good weed that I have no idea what it was. It is stateside dank, there is no question. Props to whomever grew it... I truly believe we must overgrow the planet, and furthermore, it is our responsibility to get as many uptight fanatical haters stoned as possible. Nothing changes their minds like a good buzz! Peace.

I got buds coming in that those stinky rooters ain't gonna get. Not much, but dangit, its for me only. I have to start with the molasses NOW and am praying that the pigs don't consider this worth digging up. I will spray my repellent well after watering, and keep the AR handy.

Dude, I couldn't even eat the last big boar I shot last year. Tasted just like ... urine, not that I have any experience with that flavor... um unless an old-school girl I know, um, TMI never mind lol. I had to bury it. YUk. The little ones taste OK.

I think it would being wild game. I just got this hunkering for a good old fashioned BBQ when I saw that bad boy.

Feral you are so right, but try some pecan wood if you get a chance. Most folks don't know pecan is a member of the hickory family, or whatever, and smells great in the smoker. I drive by pecan orchards all the time, and there are always blowdowns and limbs the farmer will let you cut up free. I hope to one day own my own organic farm... I hate my corporate life so much... but I have to do it 'till the kids are out of college, then...........

stratman du if u shoot a boar u HAD better cut the balls off him as soon ass he hits the ground or all the meat wiill have that terriblle flavor... i personally like to thap them or run them down with PITBULLS and rifles .... those little fuckers root up everything ... u might as well fill up ur freezer shrpshooter i love to let my 7 mm with a balistic tip tear on e of those little shits head right offf shrpshooter

To the OP, as far as bagging dangerous, invasive animals like feral hogs, that's fine with me, and better still that you're making use of the meat.

Ive hunted feral hogs down in florida, but in VA, we dont have that problem at all....About 5 years ago, about 20 pigs escaped from a farm....Within a very short time, like a month, they revert back to being feral. They start growing tusk and their hair starts to grow..Its really crazy how fast they revert back to wild hogs...They are very bad for the land..needless to say, all of the hogs that escaped, were hunted and killed before they could repopulate..... The Walker deer hounds would jump them up and run them for short periods of time...but one thingis for sure...They are hard to kill with a shotgun.....personally, i like my .270 for the job.

Even though we do not have them in VA yet, I know the time is coming..they are taking over the entire country...sooner or later.... I think a SKS would be the best thing..that way when you see a 20 pack of them, you can get atleast 5 or so.....I do not want feral hogs where i live....even though they are really good to eat.....but you have to cut tehir balls off as soon as you shoot them, opr it will spoil the meat...same thing with sharks.

Nothing beats pork.....and if you know how to cook it, you are KING. I do alot of catering for parties, graduations and weddings...pretty much any occasion, Im known around these parts as a pit master....I also make my own sauces, one being a carolina style, vinegar sauce...and a sauce that I call "Texas" which is half and half of the carolina sauce and a sweet sauce....People go nutty for it....PM me if your interested and Ill give you the recipe..its easy and its the shit....There are a couple BBQ joints around here, and they all use my sauces.

To the OP, I hope you get a succesful harvest man...good luck.

Didn't realize that was meant as a joke Kalico, so I offer an apology.

On the subject of hunting, I unashamedly enjoy that wholesome outdoor activity, especially since I do eat every last morsel of anything I bring home. Matter of fact, I harvested a nice brace of duck just this morning, with the help of a Russel Terrier who just loves to swim and retrieve, and we will both be enjoying duck stew for dinner later on today. To anyone who may find this offensive, it might help to remember that the only difference between a hunter and any other non-vegetarian is the degree of removal from the actual killing.

I grew up in the country, where hunting remains as a natural a pursuit as is going to the supermarket for city folks, yet, like you, I love animals, and grew up with dogs from as far back as I have memories.

I sure hope Stratmandu won't misconstrue these few words as being anything other than politely informative. By the way, there is no sweeter sound on earth than a Fender Strat in full cry.

Walked right up on one this morning, and missed at like 15 feet! Dang thing smelled me just as I was squeezing the trigger, and un-assed the area in a hurry. Dang it!

My last surviving widow is in full bloom. I put 7 gals of EJ bloom and molasses on her this morning. Some leaves are showing a little discoloring; not sure why. I gave some EJ Microblast last week, so I think maybe the pH is a little low.
