Chat is BACK!

It's pretty funny to go back to the first page of this thread and see that in March Skip put up the bare-bones RealChat software with the promise of something better soon.

Clearly that never happened. Since its down and we have a new web person, why even bother fixing the current chat? It sucks and was not even meant to be permanent.

When Old Pink gets back from his vacation or whatever, how about he just installs this chat software that *everyone* loves -

It's $300 USD for 100 users or $500 for unlimited. We've never topped 100 in chat, so I'm sure we'd be good with the 300 dollar version.

Integrates with vBulletin and all that.

Nobody ever liked the RealChat software, and it was supposed to be temporary anyways.

Thinking it may be time to seize the moment and get a truly kickass chat client for icmag.

Chat isn't broken. There is something between chat and the forums that is messing things up. Until OP can get all the forum issues sorted (yes someone messed things up real good) chat will remain down. If it was up, they would both be going down every half hour, like a week or two ago. OP is not on vacation, unless fiddling with tech issues all day is a vacation. Please don't assume things. Trust us that we are working on things and we all want everything to run smoothly, asap. It's frustrating for everyone.

Never said it was broken, just down.

But "things messed up real good" does sound a lot like "broken" hehe.

Gypsy is the one who popped in and said OP is on vacation.

In any event, my point still stands... Why go through the trouble fixing the old chat when it was never meant to be permanent and there are reasonably priced and tested alternatives that everyone loves?

Tech things behind the forum scenes are problamatic. Chat is fine. For some reason the forum problems cause both chat and the forums to go down itermittantly. So, instead of taking the forums down for weeks, they took chat down. I just talked to OP the other day. Yes, Gypsy's post was a joke. Unless you think OP is really scottie from Star Trek. Once again....Chat is not broken and doesn't need fixing. the forums are messed up. lol I feel like I keep repeating myself....

It sounds silly to keep saying chat is "not broken" when it is down and nobody can use it.

And the "joke" ended with "scotty" being on vacation. Sounded more to me like OP is on vacation and Gypsy was telling us in a humorous way. Do you insist upon a literal connection within jokes? Cause believing that OP is really scotty from star trek is retarded, but taking information from the point of the joke is not.

Anyways, what is your point? I'm not complaining about chat being down.. I am pointing out that the RealChat software was never meant to be around this long, and that it would be a good time to integrate a new one.

Why should Old Pink have to learn the ins and outs of the RealChat software when it was just supposed to be a placeholder for better software?

Enough with the bullshit...really these excuses for why the sites down are just fucking bonkers and uniformed excuses. Any educated IT person is laughing at the things like "oh theres a problem with the forum that makes the chat not work" ....bullshit they are two different scripts run on two different ports and have nothing to do with each other except a link to a frame. It's obvious the problem is the server company cannot handle ICmag...it's even more obvious we lack professional support. Lets move past a half assed hosting company like Parc hosting...I mean it just seems obvious if we have problems with the sites whenever we have any kind of real traffic...With all those server funds on the site that are always selling for 100+ on auctions you mean to tell me we dont have our own scripts and our own server...and were looking for donations to help support a hosting company that is easily under 200 a month? Seems like spending 9,000 on a real dedicated server and getting a Tiered internet connection would be needed...and would be a reason to ask for donations, not to have a site hosted by another site...and than ontop of it have no one who can actually fix the site. Obviously if it was the bay or the boutique immediate attention would be brought too it because it is a source of income...but to be honest I havn't bought shit in a week when i wanted too because i couldn't talk it out with the posse. Chat is very needed...it is the best way to learn on this site. It also sells more seeds then any thread on here.

No disrespect or anything just saying...The real problem is someone who didn't know what they were doing either copy and pasted over some important code and there should be a backup of it...or its down because admin dont want it up. Only possibilities...do this shit for a living.
