What's new

what strains are best for my situation?

I have a room that is about four by seven feet and cannot afford to have plants get more than five feet tall. I am looking to figure out, given that I will use soil, that I am still a beginner, and that I will have 800 watts of HPS at my disposal, which strains would best maximize my space.

I will not be able to afford a drip system so I need to get in between my plants to water. That means that I will probably not be able to grow more than six. Additionally, I find LST to be quite a pain and will probably try topping this time. I will not be able to SCROG and SOG seems out of the question since I need to be able to water each plant without a drip system and there will not be room to get behind the grow, only down the middle (even that will be tricky).

I will be growing them the old fashioned way, getting as much light as possible to the interiors and cultivating colas with topping only.

I am not sure if all that info is necessary but there it is. Perhaps the reader could tell me if any of the following sound tailored to this environment or not:

AK-47 x BlueBerry
G 13
Hash Berry
SensiStar
Super Skunk
White Widow x Super Skunk x AK-47

Those ones will be available to me for sure. Any feedback will be most appreciated!

give them 50w of light so 16 plants bro:tiphat:....

or if you go SOG the number could be as high as 50 but i wouldnt do that unless you have 50cuts...50cuts i 1 ltr pots kicks ass

keep it green
highlander

ps..one more thing,,to make things that bit easyer...run eather indis leaning strains or sats leaning strains..dont run them both (not saying you cant) as you will just have to start bending plants , moving light ect ect as the sat leaning plants will grow tall..

have fun

As I said, I will not be able to SOG and I will not have room for more than six full grown plants. Are you suggesting that this is TOO MUCH wattage? Can too much light adversely affect the outcome?

Also, my lights are of the round variety. Is it safe to say that one light in such an area would be enough, with that kind of narrow reflection? I will be needing to spread the plants out a bit for easy watering.

Also, I will not be able to afford more than half a dozen clones at this time. Can SOG, with 400 watts of HPS and six plants, be a productive way to go in a 4x3 or 4x4 area? It does seem like using the ENTIRE space would be best.

why do you say you only have room for 16 plants? it all depends on how you grow.

If you dont want to Sog or Scrog, and lst is a pain. Do a lil combo deal.

Make a couple of bubble cloners and get to it. You can flower clones right from the cloner, but after leaving them in for a week or so after roots show. the roots will be nice and long, these clones will be strong too. you can get some one gallon bags, hempy coir buckets, small trashcan, whatever and fit 16-20 depending on container, under each light. (assuming that the 800w means 2x400)

sort of like sog in that you dont train, but letting the plants go a LONG time in the cloner giving them ample time to grow roots and even a few sets of leaves will give you 3' plants depending on other things.

things to consider: vertical growing, theres a goood thread with a 400w in the forum. DrGreenBud, he does high density sog, which im not recomending but he has a unique style that can be learned from.

I think you will be able to grow any of the listed varieties in your space without problems.

Unfortunately I don't know which one of those tops best but judging by your text that's the one you want. Get one of each and top them all and see what does best?

P.S. If you use a modular system (for example pots filled with soil), you can move some plants out of the way when watering and won't have trouble getting to the ones at the back. ;)

a better way is to lst them(tie them down once) when they are small and then once they are bushing out, top them again for bushes with many colas. this will focus yeild on top colas and there should be plenty of them.
all of those strains could be grown by you and if you have the chance, try them all!!! :) try a superskunk for sure tho, i love it and it has a very good yeild indoor.

I have room for SIX not SIXTEEN, and it is precisely because I WANT to grow in soil and want larger plants. Incidentally, I am registered with the state of Michigan to do this legally, as my own caregiver, and will not violate the twelve plant limit no matter what.

Also, I have only one room to use for now so running clones is not an option. You have me thinking, though. How much space would keeping 12 at a time going take? Would not the mother require a significant space all its own or when it gets too big can one just replace it with one of the cuttings? Is that something I could do with a homemade box?

Thanks for the SOG reference; I'll check it out.

So if I was doing it SOG style, the plants would not be growing so intermingled that separating them would do damage?
