Need advice for Scrog

Ideally I would transition from red cup-1-3-5/7 all promix hp fed Maxibloom lucas @ 6-7gram a gallon every other watering, as well as supplements.

1000w lamps air cooled.

2-2 1/2 inch screen.

-How high should I place my screen above the top of the 5/7gal (haven't decided final pot size, but it will be an air pot) for enough room to train my plants under 1000w? and

When should I position the screen above the canopy to allow shoots to grow through? For example, should the screen always be above the plants, or should I place the screen above when I finally transplant into my last pot size..?

and

-Regarding basic training, new shoots that rise through screen 3-4 inches, are they pulled back under screen through the same hole they emerged and then placed under the screen allowing new internodes to rise through adjacent holes
or
Are new shoots that rise through screen 3-4 inches pulled down through adjacent holes next to the hole the shoot arose to create a weave?

when i did scrog, once the plants got above the screen, i pulled them down and used the plant ties to secure it to the top of the screen. dont know if that is the preferred method of everyone else out here, but it worked good for me.

AOD- that technique sounds good to me ,maybe a little more work since you've got to do a lot tying. i read a different technique on another page but was confused on the training because there wasn't much detail.(there is probably a few ways to do it now that i think of it, obviously).
sounds like the same as pulling the branches under the screen once they become 3-4 inches, but instead of having the branch growing below the screen with internodes popping through the mesh you tie down the whole branch horizontal on top of the screen.. same idea just either branches below, or above tied down.

the more i think about it the more i like your technique, besides the fact it requires a lot of tying.

bump

AOD- did you find the Scrog technique ideal? in other words, was it worth the extra veg time for the improved yield?
because when i read 8 week veg for a good Scrog, I wonder wether doing 2x the plants and half the veg time would give me the same yield while cutting 4 weeks off the grow.

yea, it was nice when i was just growing for shits and giggles, but now i am just trying to get as much as i can in the shortest amount of time. so i am now doing a lot more plants with a lot less veg time. still working out the kinks, and just picked some new moms with the strains i ran last time, but id like to be able to harvest 6 times a year, instead of four or three with the scrog. but whatever works for you, you should do it. i tried a few different ways till i found out what worked for me.

AOD-yeah, i was always worried Scrog would take too long, and considered just doing more plant #s and vegging for a month... hmmm

I tried a SCROG grow once with 4 plants under a 600W HPS. The screen was about 12" above the pots so I could easily trim growth underneath. I grew the plants until the screen was about 3/4 full and tried to make sure one shoot was pulled through each hole in the net giving multiple colas. This took about a month. When flipped to 12/12 the plants would stretch and i could then fill the screen. These plants were in soil.

I only did SCROG once and have retired the screen. I found the grow took too long with a month veg time. The harvest was very messy and I thought it was a pain in the arse.

However it seems a fairly good way of increasing yield with a small number of plants. So if plant numbers are an issue it is probably a good way to go, I just can't be bothered with the method although some people swear by it.

Now I just do SOG. High plant numbers, lot's of clones required but simple and a quick turn over. I have SOG's pretty much sorted out now and like it. Clones go straight on to 12/12, no veg time needed.

But each to their own, SCROG might work for you.

ScrOG height is arbitrary. The screen can go underneath the pot if you like. The sooner you get the growing tip below the rest of the plant and force horizontal growth, the sooner you'll see the benefits of ScrOG.

The deciding factors are more about hand size and arm length. How much space do you physically require to get your hands underneath and all the way to the back of the grow? You want to keep underscreen growth to a minimum to avoid mold and for that, you need access.

its getting late in year but you still might be able to veg one outside under momma sun and then bring in to flower????????? otherwise there is next year if you dont have extra room for vegging and exttra power . but as far as pain int he arse that is absurd . it totally is not .... weave them and instead of 5 main colas youll get 100 medium colas all equal distance from light and when they put on the weight they are supported to maintain the canopy distance . no staking or stringing and destroying of trichromes near end of grow.... .

but the veg time does bite ,but so does high plant numbers in some states.

Fair call, I just don't like trimming 100 colas. I used to weave them in and out everywhere. When the stretch started there were colas coming up everywhere. In some net holes there were 3 colas coming up. Guess I should have cut them off and left one. Where I live any plant numbers are illegal. Still prefer SOG though.

Yo Baet,

Lot's of good info here. Got a couple of ideas to share.
I'll be laying down some girls in the morning under the screen.
I've got a nifty way of training those cuties. Might work for you
if you like to scrog. Me? I freeking love to scrog.

Heres why,,,,,

Screen height depends on the girls. Indicas really don't work well
because of the thick stems. Sativa's go nuts.

I'll be putting in two girls in the morning. The screens are on sliders so I can bring the screen down gently over a day or three so I don't snap any limbs. Patience is your best friend.

Let me know what ya think,,,,,,
