Is it normal for GH Ph Up to cloud the water?

Just wondering, doesn't seem to hurt the plants.

It usually won't hurt the plants. Never seen the GH ph up cause lock out but could if you dump it in too fast. I've seen more lock out from adding potassium silicate in then from adjusting ph.

Try adjusting the ph of your water (up) first then add nutrients.

but what about GH micro bloom, it says always add it first. and it's not so bad if i dont add my strong smelling kelp extract. i'll open my new jug of extract and see if it stinks like the old one.

dilute first

dilute first

If your using potasium hydroxide i would dilute it first ive had it in 50% and 25% strengths and yes i got the clouding so i diluted it to 10% and hardly noticed clouding.A

The cloudiness is caused by the silica (from potassium silicate) in pH UP binding with calcium as it enters the water. The calcium is found in the flora micro. If you would like to do an experiment to show this to be true, try adding the pH UP to a mix with no micro in it and you will see no cloudiness because there is no calcium present. Even though it dissipates you are definitely having some silicon and calcium coming out of solution so I would recommend avoiding the cloudiness by either diluting your pH UP before adding or by adding the pH UP first. It is probably easiest for you to just dilute the pH up so it is not in such high concentration as it first enters the water. This silicon and calcium binding issue is the same reason why silica products should be added to your water before anything containing calcium.

yes it's normal for the water to be cloudy around where the pH up lands in the water. This goes away as you stir the solution.

The cloudiness is due to precipitation of nutrients which occurs at high pH. Never add pH up directly to nutes, always add each nute bottle separately to water and add pH up to that while stirring.

BigToke has a thread on water chemistry somewhere on icmag.

i paid 17 dollars for this

bottom left. and i have to bring ph up from a 40 gallon trash can so the general was just taking WAY to much todo the job. i use about 1/4th less now with the new stuff. which seems more expensive but last wayyyyy longer. take care

I'll give it AN for their super concentrated ph up/down. 1 drop/gal is all I need.
The initial cost may seem high but a quart of GH costs me $11 and I need half a teaspoon/gal with my mix.
