ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! Rhino Skin Exposed

I never said Pro-Tetk isn’t a quality product. But, ur spoutin off B/S. If u think Pro-tekt is a 1/8 of the price, then it should cost $7.50 an L. And at $35 a gallon that’s $9.25 a L. So what am I missing? Maybe u get the best deals, no one else knows about.

How impractical is it? I've never had an issue with it being hard to mix. Have u ever used this product or u just talkin shit? I use it as my Ph up and I only need about .5-1ml for 5 gallons. So this bottle will last longer than I will.

Here’s the math-
Pro-Tekt- Silica Bloom-
7.8% silicon 53.2% silicon

53.2 / 7.8 = 6.8205128
So Yellow Bottles is 6.8 times more concentrated. It costs $60/L. so the Pro-Tekt should cost 6.8 times less.

So its not 8x times the cost.

Lets try this math again.

So bloom is 53.2% and protekt is 7.8%

As you said, 53.2/7.8 = 6.8, so protekt should be 6.8 times cheaper....

Protekt is $35 for a gallon, and there are 3.75 L (roughly) per gallon, which breaks down to $9.25 per liter.

Now we divide the price of the bloom ($60) by the price of the protekt (60/9.25) and we come out to 6.5.......

So, in the end, it turns out they are almost equal in price in regards to silica content. When I said 8 times I was just roughly estimating off the top of my head and it wasnt meant to be something that was analysed.

So protekt gives you just about the same bang for your buck but it has two advantages.

1. It has more potassium by weight so you are getting the benefits of added potassium

2. it is easier to work with because bloom is too concentrated to handle easily. It is very easy to overdose with just a couple extra drops. Also, it becomes harder to mix because most people dont know how to use silica products in terms of mixing. They need to be added to your water first or atleast before anything containing calcium is added. If you add a silica product into water that already contains added calcium you will see cloudiness as the calcium binds with the silicon as it first enters the water. The higher concentrated the silica product the more dramatic this will be. Protekt is already concentrated enough that it can be a problem if not added to the water first, so yellowbottles 6.8 times more problematic.

These problems can be avoided by just adding silica products to your water first and allowing them to dilute, whether that be protekt or bloom's silica.

The bottom line is that I prefer a product that for the same cost gives me equal silicon, more potassium, and is less risky in terms of overdose and less hazardous to work with. (yellowbottle would damage your skin pretty bad if you didnt wash it off quickly)

Im not saying yellowbottle makes a bad product and thats probably why the OP mentioned it along with protekt in the original thread posting. I just feel that protekt is superior for the reasons previously listed

Dude, this is a much better post than the first. I can see ur points now.
But, to each thier own.
I've used Pro-Tekt and I'm currenty use Yellow Bottles Bloom Silica. Both do the exact same thing. I dont see any more/better benifits comparing Pro-Tekt and Bloom Silica.
I don't see the need for the extra potassium as I already have my nute profile spot on.
I love that all i have to do is add .5ml-1ml and it PH'ed. I stick with the idea of less is more.

Bloom Silica is potassium silicate also

I do know this

Bloom Silica Australian company shipped from AUS

Pro- tekt from Dyna-Gro US company shipped from Richmond VA

Gotta be some carbon footprint to that stuff

It actually comes from Richmond, California. Not Richmond, Virginia. Just double checked my bottle to make sure Im not talking out my rear end.

Ha. youre right guess I misread it. My btl says San Pablo, CA Thats even closer to me.

What about the Yellow Bottle's Silica Bloom. Its 53.2% silica, are u saying this is unusable in hydroponics?.....Again what about the Yellow Bottle's Silica Bloom. Its 53.2% silica and Pro-Tekt is 7.8%. Thats make Yellow Bottles almost 7x times as concentrated...

http://www.pqcorp.com/literature/potassium.pdf

On page 5 you will find a list of the viscosity of different concentrations. Potassium silicate with 20% silica has a viscosity of 40, which is about as fluid as blood. 26% silica has a viscosity of 1050, therefore it is as smooth as honey.

I dont know Silica Bloom and Pro-tekt, but I think Silica Bloom probably has 53.2 Grad Baumé (° Bé), the sum of potassium and silica.

I think there is a calculation error in the comparison ;)

PS: Search on google for "Kremer Pigments Inc. NYC", that's the german company where I buy the silica. There you get 5 Liter of 20% silica for 56.00 US$ :)

Miracle grow, is the shit better then dyna-gro and advanced ive tested all three side by side five times miracle grow wins hands down

I have no experience with AN, reason being I checked it out & based on things I've learned HERE I decided (on my chem stuff) to stick with Nursery Select (Formerly Pro Select) MG for veg & MG bloom booster for flower.

Pro-tekt works for me. I have given others a try and really could not tell the difference.

Until I try something that does something I can detect, I have to stick with Pro-tekt.

I just bought this stuff, 1 gallon for 19 bucks, and it contains 26% Silicon dioxide. Awesome deal. (esentially 1 liter of 100% pure for $19!)

http://chem-gro.com/cart/product_info.php?products_id=79

It's a clear liquid with no smell, viscosity between blood and honey. I didn't rinse out my dropper I use to measure it out after use and the next day there was all hard glass like stuff in the dropper. If you mix it with a cup of water it won't clog anything up, you won't even be able to tell it's in there any more.
