I don't think I had ever eaten a curry till I was 18 or so, but know it's something I eat about once a week and one of my favorite dishes. Live without curry would suck.

Every Asian country I've ever been to has their own curry except Japan. The British introduced their fucked-up version of curry to Japan around 1900. :) I actually like it but it's very fattening. If you don't know it imagine curry mixed with flour.

Thankfully we have lots of Indian, Thai, and other South East Asian countries to choose from now.

I'm curious how many of you have ever tried curry, I'm sure the English members will have tried it.

What kind of curry is big where you are?

Good curry is like chicken soup - cures every ill known to man except stupidity. Bad curry is an affront to every single taste bud ever in a human mouth. I like my curry like I like my women - hot, spicy, meaty and makes me sweat all over. On the other hand, my butthole is sometimes not so fond of curry. Closest thing to being sodomized I hope to experience.

Magda does not like spicy food. Her edgiest foods lean toward Italian, or mild Mexican.

I was in an Indian restaurant the other day where you can choose your level of spiciness. I asked if the most hot would be considered hot in India and he was like, "yeah....for babies"

Curry powder gets used a lot around here. I cook with it at least twice a week. Love me some curry and honey glazed grilled chicken. :yummy:

I stick with a mild curry for the most part but if i want it a little spicier, I throw in some hot Madras curry. BAM!
The British version sounds interesting. :chin:

Never been a curry fan until I discovered Green Curry. Coconutty, sweet, and HOT!
I usually get it Thai spicy (American's idea of spicy is bland to me). They sliver up extra hot green chilis to fire it up.

And Thai basil is so tasty!

There is Japanese curry by the way, In england it's called katsu curry, not sure what the Japanese is, it's normally chicken or breaded pork. It obviously draws from other cuisines other than Japanese but it is Japanese as no other country makes a curry like it.

Being half asian, I love curry, depending on my mood vindaloo a very spicy indian curry, or a thai green coconut curry (which my husband tries to steal from my plate) I always ask for things thai or as hot or spicy as possible and am usually dissapointed here in the states. I have to go somewhere or make it myself to get a decent SPICY curry.

Jamaican curries are not hot unless you ask, the scotch bonnet (habanero) is put in whole and removed before serving .... if you want it hot then cut the pepper and let it cook into the meal

'Kari' is an Asian/African word used to describe the sauce the meal is cooked in, being tropical areas they all tend to contain chillies to some extent

It's actually based on English Curry. Katsu means deep fried cutlet, so you have chicken katsu or ton-katsu (pork)

UK here - I do like a good fucked-up English Curry. Madras is about as hot as I like it....much hotter than that and it becomes a chore to eat rather than a pleasure.

I also like the generic curry you get from Chinese takeaways. Chicken curry, plain boiled rice and a 6-pack of lager and I'm all set.

The intestinal purge the next morning?.....all good things have some sort of drawback :D

There are so many different kinds but the ones they sell here in the super-markets are not as spicy as in Korea. We get ours at a Korean market though and you ass feels hot in the morning.

Did Some one say Curry? Think I'll drop down to my local market for some of that Phet Piset Stuff this young lady's mom blends (it's the one in the middle in back with all the pepper seeds showing). Phet Piset (Pet pee-set) means "special spicy" or "damn hot" I was a bit disappointed in the heat though, What can you do? Thai folk just don't do REAL spicy. The Gang keaw Wan (green curry) in front is nice too.

My favorite is Matsaman typically associated with Southern Thai food, it's spicy, has a hint of cumin in its flavor and goes well with just about any kind of meat or vegetable, prefer it without coconut milk. Do up a stir fry with chicken or beef and large dollop of the paste, fry it in and then add some fish sauce oyster sauce and a little beef or chicken stock. That, a handful of sticky rice and a couple of Beer Leos and I'm good to go. Fresh Curry pastes, God I'm gonna miss that when get back to the world.

Then there is this noodle dish called, "Khaow Soy" a special curry powder in stock with a dollop of coconut milk and chicken, beef or pork served with pickled cabbage, lime wedges red onions and chili paste on the side. a good shop can charge almost a dollar fo one of those. Safe to say if I eat out on the road side somewhere there's a curry of some sort on the table at least 50% of the time.

If you can find a Thai restaurant that will do a "Gang Hanglay," order it. Not real spicy but the flavors will be a treat. I've never found it outside of S.E. Asia but You never know you ask for it and the Thai cook may be so surprised he'll make one up for you.

As far as English curries go... No thanks. Anyway; Potatoes in Curry??

Mmmmm, love a good curry, live in England, I like Indian curries..

Was living in Leicester which probably has some of the best indian curries outside India (v. large Indian population in Leicester). My favourites are probably Dopiaza and Jalfrezi. Biryani is nice but tends to vary greatly from restaurant to restaurant.

Coffee looks like wet shit, smells like poison, and tastes like dirty water. Danish is a bitch food, sorry but if any guy eats a daish and coffee and calls it a meal is a BITCH!

It's been a long time since I have tasted kimchee. I forget, is it spicy hot?

Kimchi is Spicy as hell. But tastes freakin awsome

Well in my experiences restaurants just don't use the right kind or amount of spices. That is why some home cooking is always best. I love going to my moms or other families houses and eating some spicy curry chicken and rice that makes your ass burn in the morning.
