Hey all.

Been growing out some Zombie's and AK's for a while (5 - 6) wks old. I've mostly had them on 24/0 light; however, I've recently began a 18/6 regiment.

I have read a lot about pre-flowering but can't find any. I do have a magnifying glass - and extreme zoom on Photoshop - but still no calyxes - every new growth seems to be sec. branching.

Please if you have time to have a look & provide feedback I would appreciate it.

ya hard to tell with your pics... how many days sence the flip? it takes anywhere from 10 to more like 20 days to see anything... your looking for pistals with white hairs coming out..

if your looking to mom/clone off-m, you can take cuts now (lower part of the plant) mark-m so you know which one they came from, and when you got the parents sexed, you keep the fems and toss the males...

It can take a lot longer for pre-flowers. I've always sexed by flowering so my memory might be wrong and I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're looking more at 3 months to see pre-flowers.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for quick replies MK6, and Japan.

Both were helpful and I agree they aren't the best shots for pre-flower nodes. I am going to keep updating this posting so I can eventually get better shots.

MK I haven't flipped yet to 12/12 yet. Waiting until I've made a scrubber & I'm seriously considering waiting to flower until Fall so I haven't so much heat and humidity to worry about during flowering. Extra yield too:laughing:.

Japan I think your probably right about the time for actual pre-flowers & considering it's going to most likely be a long ass veg on the whole garden I should eventually get them.

Rep and gratitude to ya both.

I realize I can clone, or try the paper bag - or (my least fave method) just flip for 2 wks and go back to veg. I think that the latter is risky - I've hacked my bagseeds apart & feel like I'm a clone killer. Tried them in Rockwool and failed both times. Think my cubes were too wet. regretfully I tried too many at once and they died.

I better learn how to clone and make it easier on myself as I hope to eventually use them for a perpetual garden. I need med :ying:.

Peace.

Hey all.. I've another question.

I wonder if anyone knows if it would be too stressful on plants if I decided to top or fim this late in game considering my plan of vegetating the plants throughout the summer. I suspect I know the answer however I would appreciate confirmation from those who have some cycles under their belt. This is my first grow - so I'm definitely still learning. Thanks in advance.

Peace.

Oh i don't think it will take 3 months to sex, usually sometime after the first month they show (or when sexually mature/ branches grow uneven on stem(whats that term again?)).

However i have had some from seed that never sexed until they were flowered. And yes you can top or fim if you want to do so  have fun friend

hey bro, checked out your pics and to me they look
too young still.

what you want to look for before you'll see pre-flowers
is alternating nodal growth, that signals that the plant
is fully mature and ready to flower.

once you see that alternating growth you will begin to
see pre-flowers like this.

female .............male

it'd probably be a good idea to invest in a handheld microscope
and get the 30x, the 60x is to hard to focus while holding
it in your hand.
handheld microscopes

btw, welcome to the world of cannabis cultivation
although i must warn you, growing is HIGHLY addictive!

lol, for real, it gets under your skin.

anyway, if you really want to reap the full benefit of
growing your own bud you must learn to clone so i
thought i'd post up what i believe is the simplest,
cheapest, most reliable method out there. (many
will disagree but if you follow the instructions in the
original thread i promise you you will succeed, i get
nearly 100% rooted clones, period!)

anyway, here's the link to the original thread and keep
an open mind as it works like a fuckin' dream despite
what the haters will tell you.

good luck, SOG

Hi Learningfirst,
This comes with plant maturity. After two to three months of veg you will see preflowers. If you're in hydro then it's more like 5 weeks to 8 weeks. I've been vegging my gals between two and a half and three months. I just started seeing preflowers about a couple weeks ago at two months. Some strains vary but you need at least 2 months for sexing in veg.

This is a cutting I took from my plant just before switching to 12/12. She was busting out with preflowers. Also look at the branching on this cutting. Can you notice a difference from the ones in your picture? They are no longer perpendicular to each other. This is a sign of plant maturity.

If you wait longer you will see your preflowers around two months. sativas may take a month longer.

Maybe it's just me but I've noticed a higher potency on the end product when plants are flowered after a long veg time.

Look for the twin white fuzzy hairs where the branch meets the stem. If you see the twin fuzzy hairs, you have a girl. If you just see "nubs" with no hairs...you PROBABLY have a male. You won't know for sure until you start the actual flowering. I've had a few fool me...not many though.

Good luck!

Sweet Posts!

Someotherguy: Totally awesome pics & tutes - really appreciate the educmacation as I do from anyone willing to take time to teach me.

SumDumGuy: Totally notice the alternating nodes - saw them on my bagseeds before I hacked the hell out of them in an attempt to learn how to clone :p

Thanks to Ibjamming as well. I have read in books not to be to sure on that basic of not seeing the hairs from a possible female calyx. I know I'll definitely wait for the flip until I am going to chop any hehe.

Thanks to all for the help and making me feel welcome.

Peace.

you're welcome man, glad i could help. . . and thanks
for your comments on the pic of my old light bar.

i say 'old' because those were a starting place for me,
i've made a few changes since then as far as lighting
goes, everything else too actually, lol, truth is, my op
is in a constant state of evolution as i gain experience.

one thing i'd recommend if you have headroom limitations
is PLL's rather than standard CFL's for a couple reasons,
most important of which is that they are remote ballasted
so much of the heat is removed from the grow chamber.

another advantage is the shape of the bulb as they are
u-shaped rather than twisted like standard bulbs.
think a 4ft T5 but folded in half.

here are a couple pics to illustrate (my little clone box)
and a few links to some threads i think you'll find enlightening.

PLL Club. (if you don't know, now you know)

The Cab Club

Scrub's PLL Coco Cupboard and Friends

My First Grow 220 watt pll cab

as i said, i'm using these to clone with and if i didn't have
a cab with enough headroom for HID i'd be flowering with
them as well.

below is a thread you should read if you have a tallish cab,
as these lights seem like they are the real deal and now
i'm awaiting delivery of my new light and ballast kit as we
speak, lol, that's how sold i was.

Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

anyway, take your time and do as much research as you
can stomach so that when you make a decision, it's an
informed one and not a snap judgement that will cost you
in the long run.

peace, SOG

Sure I can.

You'll know it's really sex when it's feeling gross yet exciting... after a while it's more enjoyable.

Good luck!
