Having done years of hydroton ebb/flow
I found it good to test PH of run off from pots or tray at 1hr and 2 hr after draining as often the PH is rising due to uptake of nitrate ions and is way higher than the resivoir
Often my rez is at 4.5 and run off is 5.0 immediatly after drainage and 5.5 after 1 hr 6.0 after 2 hrs!A

So don't check PH until 2 hours after the last flood cycle and then adjust accordingly?

Test at 1hr and 2 hr this will tell you the rate of ph swing its usually more in pots than trays.
With pots i tilt at 45 deg and test last few drips .
My tank has been PH 4 and the pots at 6.0-6.2 at 1 and 2 hours consecutivley,
depends on nute formulation and soft or hard water.
use nitric acid for ph control.A

Well, it's been 7 days since I cut the batch of 40 new clones. So let's see how they are going.

ALL 40 CLONES STILL KICKING, NO DEATHS YET

picture.php

The dome stays off for good now. Clones have had their first feed of Seasol seaweed extract.

So how is that SOG going after 2 1/2 weeks of 12/12.

GOING ALONG JUST FINE

picture.php

The yellow leaves in the middle are from the light of a torch I used so the auto focus on the camera worked. The leaves are droopy because the plants are in the night cycle of 12/12.

PISTILS

I'm going to have to keep that bunch of clones in the Hiko tray until this lot in the SOG are finished, 3-4 weeks. I'll start to feed them with veg nutes at about .5 EC in a week or so.

I'm already thinking of the next grow. Perhaps a true SOG at 4 plants per sq/ft under 1000W, clones straight on to 12/12 and they can veg in the Hiko tray in the meantime. 36 plant total in a 3x3 table under 1000W. MY LITTLE SOG, 36 CLONES, 4 PER SQ/FT UNDER 1000W

Thanks KW, for SOG style grows you need mother plants for lot's of clones. You don't want to have to deal with male plants as you would with seed although I guess you could use feminized seeds. You also have to be confident with your cloning method to produce the number of clones required.

Thanks Shroomy, I wish I knew what the strain was too. It's an old one, I've had the mums for 8 years.

I reckon it's 100% indica. The node spacing is so tight, the growth is so short and stout and it finishes quickly. When the heads form it smells like licorice, quite over powering to someone who has not smelled it before. Mind you, I'm almost desensitized to the smell these days, something I have to watch out for. I reckon she's a full on hash plant and the bubble bags are looking tempting.

The effects of the high can be quite devastating to someone on their first taste of the plant. It will produce total couch lock to the uninitiated, a dreamy state of mind that can get the heart racing. You can become very sensitive to sounds which may produce a feeling of paranoia and anxiety. Then your mind set will change gradually leaving you relaxed and calm. Quite trippy actually. You have to try and remain focused through out the experience and just enjoy the ride.

And I like it.

I only use the Seasol on the clones in their second week. It is meant to promote root growth and seems to do the job. When the roots on the clones are well developed I change to hydro nutes at about .5 EC. These are just normal hydro nutes not coco specific. When they go into the SOG I put them straight on to 1.5 EC.

3 WEEKS OF 12/12, HOW'S THE SOG GIRLS GOING NOW

3 WEEKS OF 12/12, HOW'S THE SOG GIRLS GOING NOW

I think the stretch has just about finished. Pistils forming along the entire length of the colas and trichomes are starting to display their wares.

ONE OF THE MANY COLAS DEVELOPING AND SPARKLING LITTLE TRICHOMES

THEY SHOULD ALL START TO FATTEN UP NOW

WILD BRUMBY STALLION, HIGH COUNTRY, WHERE INDICA REIGNS SUPREME

picture.php

EC increased to 1.9, no temp issues, no spider mite issues. Mums and new clones going along quite well.

Some of the lower leaves are starting to fade and I just pull these off. I'll give the lower growth a bit of a trim soon cos I can't be bothered dealing with popcorn bud.

I should have enough clones to be able to do another true SOG run, ie 36 clones put in at 4 per sq/ft, single cola style, no topping, straight on to 12/12, trim lateral growth. But this next project will be under 1000W not 600W like the original MY LITTLE SOG.

Happy gardening to everyone, the shortest day has been and gone here and I am looking forward to spring and the long hot lazy days of summer.

It is a real black stallion found on a mountain range near me. It is feral, it is wild, you cannot ride it. On this day it was quite aggressive, ears forward, looking at me and snorting. I could only get within about 150m of it before it went crazy.

Little did it it know I was 1/2 baked at the time and I didn't give a shit!

Peace.

hahaha - squiggles. :D i was thinking you should pay someone to russell him for you and break him in! looks like good stock! do they have eradication programs up there for those wild horses? and do you know how old the wild population there is? sorry for the side track, just find that stuff interesting :D pretty cool!

lol maybe you could grow some weed near their fav food patch and let them eat it in winter near harvest, get baked, then just tie em up and bam got yourself some horses!

Here he is with 2 girlfriends. That's who he was trying to protect hence the anger management issues. All wild, feral, brumbies.

HE IS ETERNALLY VIGILANT SO NO ONE TAKES HIS GIRLS

I am starting to re think the idea of FIMMING and TOPPING clones to produce multiple colas in a 16 plant, 3x3 table, SOG style configuration. The canopy appears too thick. Light penetration to the lower growth is less than when grown in a single cola style situation even with 1000W.

I think these plants may suffer because of it. I've just about got 4 colas on each plant, some more. So that is effectively 64 colas growing in a 3x3 SOG. A true SOG is 4 clones per sq/ft, trim lateral growth and grow single colas. A 3x3 can take 36 single colas, not 64.

So perhaps 9 plants FIMMED, 4 colas from each, 36 cola total. Less clones to worry about, less numbers, better light penetration. But will it match the yield of a true single cola SOG.

I don't think so.

hmmm....I am beyond interested in reading your last post. I am often stuck wondering the EXACT SAME THING. I've found a TRUE 4 per sq ft SOG to be one of the best producing gardens possible.

There are new containers being made that might make 5 per sq ft a possible reality, but I have yet flowered something off in one of these micro containers, but it holds interesting possibilities. There again I have the same question....is 5 better than 4 due to over crowding issues and what not....

Continuing to be a great thread...I'm enjoying!
