Living w/ Anti-Marijuana Room Mates - Micro Grow Smell issues?

Hey IC
Next year I will be living with anti-marijuana room mates and could get in some "trouble" if smell became an issue.

I tried searching but found nothing

I would love to grow a personal supply in a small micro grow but am worried about smell.
What do you guys do to mask smell?
Should I target specific low smell strains?
Do they make carbon filters small enough for micro grows?

I can't have these people have ANY idea that a grow will be happening here..

If it seems that smell/100% secrecy won't be attainable then growing will be out of the question :/

I would suggest building your own micro scrubber. Test it before you start your grow, use something stinky in the box for testing purposes.

I have noticed that some people have very sensitive noses while others do not, find a friend with a good nose and invite them over for a sniff test. I would walk them right up to the box and casually ask, do you smell that? It smells like (whatever you are using to test with) and watch them sniff and react.

Also be aware that we quickly become desensitized to the smell of our own flowers, so if your scrubber is marginal to begin with you might not notice the smell increasing as time goes on. So overdo the filter for the space the first time rather than having to redo it after the fact.

There might be some ideas here that will help.

No. Terrible idea. Anti-Marijuana roommates = you getting busted. Think logically before attempting to cultivate a meager amount of cannabis for the risk involved.

I agree with others. I'd wait till you have more pot friendly roomies or live on your own. Otherwise you are just risking what freedom america lets you have...do you really wanna do that?

That would require you to do research, nobody is going to sit here and spoon feed you cannabis growing knowledge. I'll get you started though, research 'carbon filter'.

Even once you learn all the anti smell precautions, you'll still have to harvest and trim your buds. That means they'd be outside the grow box and in the open air, so you'd have to take that into account and likely harvest when your roomies weren't there. Then you run the risk of them coming home to a nice dank smell.

Research? Trust me buddy.. I do my research. Notice how I asked if they made tiny carbon filters for micro grows? Notice how in my very first post I mentioned that..

I am running a much bigger grow, with much more scent protection than a tiny micro grow would need.. Check my sig if you really want to see.

Harvest would definetly be a problem though, you are right..
I would have to find a place to dry the buds.

Most likely this won't happen.. It was just a thought that was on my mind, and I like to research and learn through asking questions after I've done my own research. That is what forums are for correct?

I agree with others, get new roommates or don't grow. Even if you contain smell via carbon filter, smell will leak into your room when you open your mini-cab or whatever. When you harvest, you can hang dry your buds in the cab to contain smell, but you still have to trim them, which does smell up the place.

If you HAVE to grow and want to risk it I suggest building an ikea dresser grow cab. Very stealthy, will fit right in.

They are big enough to fit a carbon filter in too.

Check ebay for 4"x12" scrubber or the like, foothill filters is reputable. Or you can get a 4"x8" phresh filter too. Both are small and will fit into a small grow. TD-100 fans are great, pair them with a variac and you have achieved stealth.

As for smells i do nothing, my room will reek close to the end of flower.

tricky, but it can be done.

use scrubbers AND Vaportek or Ona. quiet fan. low odor strains. maybe only scrog 2 topped plants. lock on bedroom door and cabinet. vent to the outside if you can. let them know that your bedroom is off limits.

and if they're straight guys, tell 'em you like to download gay porn in your bedroom while nude - that should keep 'em out!

Also, having a lock on any furniture that ordinarily wouldn't have one invites people to wonder what could possibly need protecting thus curiosity follows. It's a good idea to think about electromagnetic locks with a battery backup and tot-loks as rudimentary failsafe. Doesn't take up much space and do not produce heat or sound. I'd go for at least 200 lbs per door.

I don't know if "they" make filters for such a small space but, you can. That said, I agree with the others, get new roomies.

they dont make them but you can by following a tutorial on the forums and one of em even gives you the calculations to fit any sized room and fan...if your 215 comp why do you need to worry anyways...

all the scrubbers in the world aren't going to help you out when you open the case, you would always need plenty of time after to clear things out, perhaps odor removing cfl's in your room would help.

Phresh 4x8 150 cfm carbon filter should do it. They are available all over the net. Good luck...
