Politics and science are very much intertwined and to think that you can separate the two is to practice the same type of denial you are advocating against. Global warming which is a scientific argument is also very much a political debate. AIDS and how to stop its transmission, again, is a scientific debate that has taken on political dimensions. It's related and I think has a place in this discussion

wouldn't claiming someone denying scientific evidence be bias?

granted there is usually a proven subject that is being disputed, but how far does the denial go?

it is related.
it can also be separated.

science is a tool to determine what is

politics is independent of what actually is, and only involves policy.

to say the two cannot be discussed separately is to lack discernment... the only reason to try and force politics into the discussion is because you intentionally wanted to violate site policy and try to get another reasonable thread arbitrarily closed...

Is science offtopic on ICmag?

skepticism is good, and integral to the scientific method.
denialism is very different than skepticism.

the skeptic does not simply ignore data he doesn't like, but looks at all sides completely... the denier refuses to look outside of the narrow framework which props up their denial.

All good scientists are skeptics.
Science is always trying to disprove itself.
It is a very competitive field.

What is a politics?

Anyways, hello again head. I will keep this short and sweet. It seems we have differing views about what science is, and when the data needs to be left at that. Just data.

The need for you to prove this baffles me really. The answer you seek is within yourself. I say that with the utmost sincerity and positive vibrations.

The subject of science (how I see it) may be difficult for you to understand, that it is not separate from philosophy and politics. It is only to those who believe it as absolute truth. How often has science changed? It is ever changing, you see science is only data. The mathematical representations for our daily observances of life. It is not close to an absolute truth, and every single living person is a scientist. You group all scientists as sharing the same opinions, and I can not understand why. Why does there have to be a right and wrong?

As for science, are you familiar with the problem of induction?
Are you able to prove science without science?

I like to use dictionaries to define how i use a given word. New Oxford American Dictionary is a good one.

politics |ˈpäləˌtiks|
plural noun [usu. treated as sing. ]
the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, esp. the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.

science |ˈsīəns|
noun
the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

See how different the two are?

lmao.. scientific denialism.. what a shit term!

Ever heard of propaganda? :ying: .. just saying, these are the days for it! One has to be able to recognize real science first of all, its the same thing with the GOD question. Blind faith is still blind faith, independent thought is when you are actually thinking independently and do not blindly believe anything presented to you. No matter whos hyped name is attached to it.

Most people dont even think at all, they just repeat what they have heard and there is no logic or independent thought at all behind it.

So what exactly are you hoping to accomplish on this thread? No one was trying to get this thread closed I was giving my O FUCKING PINION on the article you posted and that was it. See this is exactly what people mean when they say IC mag has gotten heavy handed in the moderation and banning. People are scared to voice and hear opinions that differ from their own because the are scared something is going to get closed down. When I made my post I was not trying to troll your thread or anything of that nature I was giving my opinion, and I'm sorry if my opinion is something you don't want to hear but that is the risk you take when you post on the internet. I hope this thread goes to 100 pages for all I care but please don't ever accuse me of trying to get something closed down because I HATE when "THEY" do that.

I never accused you of trying to do anything.
when politics get brought in, mods close threads.
why keep pushing a line of thought known to get threads closed?

in other threads of mine, people have bombarded enough unrelated political rhetoric to get the thread closed... I'm simply and politely trying to ask that it not be done here.

Wiki says so

i dunno what wiki says about it...
if they do say so then they got it right, though.

Edit: i went and looked.... wiki did not say that... looks like you chalk up another incorrect assertion.

they did give this nice definition, though: In science, denialism has been defined as the rejection of basic concepts that are undisputed and well-supported parts of the scientific consensus on a topic in favor of ideas that are both radical and controversial.

Oh how clear the picture is becoming. I was not aware there were only two definitions for those terms. I always believed there were multiple and various definitions for those terms. As I think in your other thread I touched on, they (words) are just a way to share and express our experience with others. Words seem to cause for too much confusion with you head, this is a conversation. It is not a game of semantics or a legal binding contract.

Again in case you missed the meat of my initial comment,

You group all scientists as sharing the same opinions, and I can not understand why. Why does there have to be a right and wrong?

As for science, are you familiar with the problem of induction?

Very true, especially in light of your recently locked thread.

I still don't see why they lock the thread, as opposed to disciplining/banning the trolls. Doing that only encourages and rewards the trolls, as ultimately their goal is to disrupt and halt any discussion. They get away punishment-free, and they get what they want: a locked thread. It's the people wanting a genuine exchange of knowledge and a productive and informative discussion that are punished in the end. It's a very strange and unfair method of dealing with disruption on the forum.

What a nut-case you are.

You want to talk about folks having the ability to discern, yet you can't get it through your 16mil skull that the subject cannot be discussed without the political ramifications.

You, politely trying?

You mean aside from the back-room comments and insulting rep to whomever dissagrees with you shit you pull?

Maybe you should check that dictionary you're so fond of, once again.

Two words come to mind when I see your responses in these types of threads, and polite isn't one of them.

I had that exact discussion with mods. they see things differently.
best to simply drop it and move on.

please point out where i have been impolite anywhere in this thread.

please explain why you cannot clearly see the difference in these two words :
politics |ˈpäləˌtiks|
plural noun [usu. treated as sing. ]
the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, esp. the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.

science |ˈsīəns|
