cheap alternative to Smart Pots..... @ walmart

I

Iron_Lion

see what I'm talk'in about.........

works gr8t.......and so much cheaper.......almost identical material......

that is an excellent idea, and those things are so cheap. I think they sell them around her for like $1. the only thing i notice, is the material doesn't look very porous, do the roots really grow thru and prune off in these types of bags? I notice the ones smartpots for sale at the hydro store are more like landscape fabric.

good point........I also originally thought the same way.....BUT
after direct comparison.......ie. hold a smart pot UP to the light......
I'ts a direct woven fabric like felt.................very thick and poris

the walmart bag is even more poris its cheaper recycled material.....
thats WOVEN...together to formthe material......hold it UP to the light and look thru it.......it woven like a mini grid pattern like burlap......
but smaller.......allowing for each little square to act as a pointof access for the roots........

so far the 4 plant I UP potted LUV the NEW containers.......

I picked up 12 of those shopping bags today for my next grow. This is a great idea and for a buck a piece way better than the hydro store ones. because they are rectangular i can fit 12 of these under my 600. You should make your own thread about this and it should be stickied, this is seriously one of the best things I have seen posted in a while.

glad to see sum other folkz workin w/ the idea......

the smaller laundry pin bags are also g8t for little ones......
I got a few HANGING......on the outerwall of my nack deck and they soak UP sun 12+ hrs a day......all tucked away and out of the way......

really really works......

and YES the bigger shopping bags seem to work VeRy WeLl..........
the rectangular shape makes them fit so so well in limited space.....

and i bet adozen all linned UP like soldiers would be killer under a 600........

this gets better and better..............

I like all the input and idea.....way kewl........
BUT they all require worka nd extra products......
I' am way to buZy for all that .........

this just requires a joint and a road trip to wallyworld........

less work and utilization of 100% recycled material........
and NO work or effort................

plus the bags are stiched together.......pretty dam strong.....
I just moved all 4 of them together as one......ie. 2 in each hand and the can handle the weight of 5gal + of soil plus water.....and plant.....

for only a dollar........

i think i'd rather save myself the drive and the money and just
use weed fabric, then you get them for a dime instead of a buck.

btw, i've used those bags for groceries and shit and the
handles broke within minutes.

They was only .50c locally here... Ive got several plants in them now .. seem to be doing just fine. The way I run plants I move them ALOT.. twice a day. So if the bags cant hold up Ill be the first to know... so far seem just fine. I also notice that they seem to be working as far as giving more air to the soil. They seem to always stay light and feel perfectly watered...

I have trays under my normal pots, so when I water the excess doesnt run all over the floor, and so the excess can be wicked back into the soil as it dries. What do you guys do to water with the bags? Tray underneath? Less water needed? I had a buddy use the plastic bags, and to water he moved them to the bathtub to water. Curious as to your process with this. Also would be interested in hanging them..multi level grows sound interesting..

suprisingly the bags dont let the water just run out very easily although if they are sitting on something it will seep through

still....working......

still....working......

NO....no light penetrating the roots.......
and the water drains well almost kinda slowly......
and after 2+ weeksof use and being moved EVERY day.....multiply X'z
I can say the bags have held U{P well....I think they will last the entire flower cycle.......

all that for a dollar..........:tiphat:

Same as yort so far no issue ... was in hardware store today and bought a few of there version in the hopes they was a tad smaller but pretty sure they are the same size. The loss of rigidity kinda sucks when moving them since I have a harder time toting 2 at once but I really like the way it seems they are never over watered.
