$$$Air Pots and Smart Pots Club$$$

This is my first grow and I'm using 4, 1.5 gallon airpots and it seems like I'm watering alot. I'm two weeks into flower and i'm watering almost every day. Is this because the pots are too small or is this the way it is with airpots. As I said this is my first grow so I know over watering is a big problem so I bought a moister meter just to make sure and when I wait too long you can tell they need water.

Thanks for all help

Air pots allow air to the entire column of soil, thereby air pruning and shaping the root system. So, it is understandable that the soil is drying out quickly. I grow in a bigger pot (not an air pot) and water every 3rd to 5th day about that stage of growth. So, either you need to up pot (to a bigger size pot) or water more often.

My personal preference is flowering in a 3 gal pot or larger.

good luck

Thanks for the reply grapeman. I wish I could use bigger pots but I'm doing micro grow so space is an issue. I'll just suck it up and water I just wanted to make sure that was the norm. Thanks

Try watering twice if you don't already. By that I mean water like you normally do and then hit them with a little more water 2-3hours later.

Its an easy way to mimic a slow soaking rainfall in nature that plants love so much. It may surprise you how much more water the soil can hold if watered very slowly or over multiple waterings.

I just dropped 4 GPD 1 BBK and 1 PK in 15gal smart pots 2 days before 12/12, all under 3 600 watt HPS air cooled hoods, I will get a few pictures this week and let you guys know what I think about them. This is my first run with smart pots I have allways run 3gal hard pots for 12/12.

woah, woah, you certainly got alot of information from my short post. before you go making too many assumptions and sounding like a pompous asshole- I have experience
My buddy did a side by side because suggested it. smart pot vs the walmart pot, I helped him with the whole grow.

he did 24 smart pots and 1 walmart pot
we put 1 hashberry clone in each pot and they were exactly the same sized nugs, and plants; you could not tell looking at the plants which one was the walmart.
i can tell you: the stiching is solid , they dont leach anything that made any real difference and they dont breakdown over the course of one cycle;they are made form recycled plasitc, i think they will be alright.

so fuck you, just becuase i did not support my statement it does not mean I assumed anything.
they really do work just the same, I KNOW.
dick.

he didn't say anything to deserve this kind of hate dude!
-K comin' your way.

try to remember that we are all in this together and we can
either be civil with each other or we can all become assholes
to each other.

which do you think would be more helpful?

I love the Air-Pots.
As a micro scrogger, it is tough to know the moisture level of my pots, as I can't lift them to check weight. With the Air-Pots, I can insert a moisture meter at any level of the root-zone I want. It makes for extreme accuracy. Anything else gained is just icing.

There are some tricks to using them. When transplanting, it's best to pack the sides all the way up, so you don't have air pockets. Also, it's best to push the soil up snug against the edges on top, so the water doesn't fall over the edges and out the holes.

hey Thundurkel, just stoppin' in to say high, been lurking
your threads for a while now and i like what i've seen, i've
learned from many here, including you, so thanks for all you do.

btw, i placed an order today for 5 of the 1liter mini's and
10 of the 1gallon size, Air-Pots, not Smart-Pots, and i can't
wait to get them. (with shipping it cost me $45.50, WAY
less than i used to spend on middies, lol)

anyway, once i get them i'll keep you posted with my results.

Great thread, I'm going to stick in an order for 25 10 Ltr Air-Pots tonight. These air-pots sound real good, I want to see if I can improve on the gpw ratio. I'll be growing SSSDH vertical coco, aiming for something like this...

started a test grow, more for myself. im using 5 gallon air pots to see how they out yield the grow bags. click the link in my signature to check it out. this thread helped me out a lot, i really like these pots so far, and all i have done is transplant and water, once, lol, just having a pot that is sturdy is different for me. outie 5000

I've used smart pots for a while now. Using the same grow techniques i always have, the buds were much larger in the smart pots. In one case i was able to grow 2 Sativa plants 3-4 ft tall in a #1 or 1 gallon smart pot. The plants continued to grow and thrive like they were in a 5 gallon pot. I put cuttings/seedlings in a #1 smart pot, and transplant to a #3 smart pot before flowering...

It just makes sense, the solid surface of a plastic container allows no air through the sides, cloth pots allow airflow on all sides of the container. Roots love oxygen :) You'll have to water more often with these pots, but that was the only real change to my routine switching over to them.

Other benefits were when you are "tray feeding" your plant from the bottom instead of top down watering. The cloth material of a Smart pot allows the root zone to soak up water from the tray much quicker and more evenly. This helps in cases when you're trying to get rid of soil born pest larvae.. I actually watered my plants entire flower cycle from the tray and it worked great. I also like that there are no open holes at the bottom of the container for pests to get into, or out of. And also makes things a lot less messy when using soil. I'm sold on "cloth pots" it doesn't matter which brand really. And the "root pruning" works fine and does not adversely effect a plants growth.

well, I don't like bags. Just don't. Never will. With that in mind...

I do LOVE Air Pots. They are awesome containers. Better side branching, large yields in less medium, more consistent / even growth, faster growth or more vigorous growth...
