The growing large plants, outdoors, thread...

Brewing now..280G

Organics Alive 'solution'
9-3-1 guano
PV liquid fish
Dry Maxicrop
Humax
Mollasses

I have a bunch of Age Old Grow sitting here, not sure if I will use it or not. Have been getting by just fine with the guanos and HFPC fish powder foliars for nitrogen.

Also curious why it's not OMRI or NOP listed.

AACT

AACT

Well, seems like the appropriate time to profile my Tea projects while we're all at it...

A little soap-boxing first of course  I firmly believe in the use of AACT. That being said, be careful of getting caught up in the belief that this stuff is the magic, end-all-be-all, smurf juice that gives our plants a forcefield and the ability to thrive through any and all strife!!

First and foremost, make sure your SOIL SCIENCE is spot-on. This is basically Tom's thread and you'll certainly hear him speak of the importance of SCIENCE in our soil, truer words cannot be uttered..

Compost Tea, both Fungal and Bacterial Dominant, provides our plants with the ability to efficiently make use of the available SCIENCE in our soils. Keep that up your sleeve at all times...

Approaching Tea Brewing with the KISS philosophy is a great way to dive in and get started. Buy yourself a decent little airpump and airstones, a 55 gallon drum, some muslin cloth, maybe a venturi style re-circulating pump, and have at it! Don't be intimidated by all the big fancy words being thrown around in here and the elaborate recipes, just do it and HAVE FUN!! Gotta start somewhere!

Early season, I keep it very basic and add to it as I go with some stronger and more Fertilizer based ingredients...

Here's a quick tour of what I'm currently doing:

This pump is a commercial pond aerator, providing 3.6 CFM, a workhorse. The hosing is all Self-Sinking Airline, designed for pond aeration.

Diffusers: The first is a 10" Diaphragm Diffuser, providing a shower of air bubbles from the bottom of the tank, the second is a Rod Diffuser that I made. It is placed directly down the center of the Filter Bag, constantly aerating your dry mix...as illustrated in the following photos:

Fresh picked, homegrown Comfrey. Get yourself a hedge of this going somewhere that you don't mind it taking over. You can cut it back numerous times per season and use the re-growth all the while..

Alright, all you tough guys out there, do yourself a favor and use one of these. You won;t look half as cute as normal but safety first. Just because these microbes are beneficial to our soil doesn't mean they're great for our bodies....just ask my lungs that are just getting over pneumonia....

Last but not least, a high quality, cold-processed Fish Hydrolysate is added...I will also alternate using Molasses every other batch...

Here they are, bubbling away. 660 Gallons of Compost Tea, ready to be deployed tomorrow morning....

This is just one of many ways you can approach Tea Brewing folks. There is a TON of info online, do some searching and come up with your own mixes....remember it's supposed to be fun!

Now GET TO WORK!!!

Giving thanks and praise for all the info regarding tea brewing!

Irrigation is in on the "BIG" farm! Loving the progression on the Farms. Will be laying straw in the days to come now that the soil has had a chance to warm up. Here are a couple of shots from the "Pool Side" smaller garden (10x10) holes and a few of the "BIG" farm with irrigation in place and working. I'll post some pics of my friends terraced "On Top of the Hill" garden later. Blessings to all!!!

Your grows are impressive, and the information is great.
I use these 55 gallon open top drums both indoors and out. It has a fast mixer, areator, sump pump and its own power strip. Its easy to add Your tea ingredients through the top.

hey all, just a quick note and question here. i noticed Tom said he sprays calcium 25 during late morning. I was wondering if there are any heat restrictions for this or if i can spray away in 100 degree heat. Sounds dangerous, but if its works it works...

Also i went and exchanged my cal25 for trees and apples for cal25 for veggies, and the one i got is significantly stronger, as its enough for 10 -20 acres. The cal 25 for trees and apples was only enough for 4-10 acres.

hash man,

the calcium 25 bottle says to only apply at over 77 degrees. thats probably the reason for the late morning application. probably the hotter it gets, the further away from morning, the less likely that the stomatas will be open to take in nutrients via foliar. ive been spraying water with a little bit of organic yucca during the heat of the day every so many days to wash off the leaves in between foliar spraying. i dunno if its working, but yucca extract is a cleansing and a wetting agent. otherwise id just use straight up water.

Try Comb - They never look perky after sub 50 degree nights..which have been the norm since Ive put them out :) I could be putting too much water to them, but I let them go a week and they seemed to ask for a drink so I gave them a top off. Maybe I'll wait longer in between and see if that helps any. I really think its the cold though because once the pots heat up they look good...

Come on warmth..

Nomaad I'm pretty sure the PV Bulk fish is the same as the Eco Nutrients 4-2-2 fish which is not fish emulsion but a hydrolysate. :)

Try Comb I hear ya..I'll take the heat all the way in to late August though... I want them to stretch plenty :)

From what Im seeing here in the central valley, California appears to be running low on top quality bud. There was a major glut of bud available just a month or two ago. Grow houses here dont seem to keep up with demand.

Its summer time. Last year at this time there was a shortage of ganja, period. This year, there is plenty of work left, but as always the good stuff is in shorter supply than it was a few months ago. That's a good sign. Especially considering that 2010 production may double 2009's. My local grow shop has sold TWICE as much dirt and 4x the large smart pots. In the end, most people will still be producing garbage that will sit around all year and mold.
