You can but, I'd be curious to hear what you feel the advantage is in doing so. Just hang the HPS high and lower into range over 2-3 days.

well what i hear is that LED is great for the veg stage , i have two tents, one veg, one flower. flower = 600w HPS , veg = 400w MH, i feel i am underpowerd with the 400 but dont want to push the extra wattage for another 600 MH. i want to get a LED panel which is equal to a 600w for the veg tent which only runs 120w or something. what do you think?

There is no LED light that compares to a 600w HID that only consumes 120w of power.

In order to get a LED that is comparable to 600w HID that LED would be 300-400w just wanted to make it clear to you that no LED light that is comparable to a 600w will consume just 120w of power. Such a light will be in the 300-400w range of power consumption.

LED light is great for veg, Just dont want you thinking some 120w led array is going to compare to a 600w HID cause it wont.

Hydro Grow has a LED light that is comparable to a 600w HID and its a 345w LED growlight, I think its priced at 1,200.00$.

I dont know what you were looking to spend but I would think that its going to cost you around 900-1200$ for a LED light that compares to a 600w HID.

GL with whatever you choose!

I could see vegging with non LED and flowering with or, LED all the way through but, for veg alone, LED seems exorbitantly expensive.

blazeone, dont forget to mention the power saving vs. intial cost greatly favors the LED unit though. Plus bulb replacement.

I think a 600w hid pulls like 860 watts from the wall vs the 290 watts that 345 watter pulls from the wall.

about 3 times as much to run per month.

I believe the 600 HPS runs between 640 and 700 watts depending on if it is digital or coil.

I'm a little new to LED tech so please excuse this rather dumb question: how does 290 watts of LED's produce 345 watts of light?

Power savings should be obvious lol, 600w light 300-400w light. :)

Bulb replacement only goes so far, Over the course of 5 years you would replace 5 bulbs for the HID.

Over the course of 5 years you would replace nothing on the LED.

Over the course of 10 years you wouldreplace 10 bulbs for the HID and replace your LED alltogether!

So in the long run its not a big savings far as bulb replacement goes the real savings come from electricity usage! Saving on exhaust fans air cooling etc that you normally need with HID and do not need with LEDS. Plus the wattage savings in actual energy consumption between the 2.

well the 345 stands for the number of 1 Watt led's that are in the unit, just as other companies units are measured. HGL posts actual power consumption too, however every unit I have seen as well as hgl's run their led diodes at 90%" or so" so they don't burn up pre-maturely..

here's more on the 345 watt unit http://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=2830212&postcount=4

your setup sound pretty good to me most say 50% flower light in your veg room so 300w in ya veg room would do?? i'd keep it as is it if it were me.
