yeah that looks like a real dog o war.
maybee a bit too much for a back yard though,it would have to be
really aggresive so no one steals it.

thats a point do any of you have a problem of staffys and other dogs being
nicked from back yards in your area?

Yeaa def. Doberman or Pit. I have both, and there great dogs, although both look scary as hell but wouldnt harm a thing. I dont think any dog is agressive just beacuse of there breed, its all how the owner raises them.

this guy is a pit shar-pei mix. if you look above his left eye you'll notice the skull is not even close to symetrical due to snake bite back in april 05. about 6-7 months ago he one upped himself by taking taking gunfire. 3 bullet holes and one still lodged in him and he's still up and kicking.
according to some officer i met he once kept 10-12 armed cops at bay till they could figure a strategy that didn't involve shooting 2 dogs once they kicked in a door. i'll trade the broken window and hamburger stains all day for live mutts :)

I got incredibly lucky 11 years ago and unwittingly found a Karelian Bear Dog at a local dog pound. Looks like a black and white mix between a husky and a shepherd.

Beautiful, loyal, very intelligent and energetic, great with kids, unbelievably healthy (never needed the vet for anything other than routine shots) and the best guard I could imagine for home and family. Also a mighty hunter of small game and deer. Just gotta make sure the delivery guys and garbage guys have fair warning or an introduction!

A friend of mine has a karelian x wolf. He's a good dog, but is very difficult to keep contained in the yard.

I have an APBT, he's a ADBA registered dog and got judge's choice at a dog show from the ADBA's president.

He's a good guard dog, but that's not the norm, some are some aren't... It's not likely he would ever bite a human though. He's awesome with kids, good with other dogs except the insecure dominant males... he'll even get along with other unfixed males as long as they both respect each other. This This dog actually attacked and bit a huge male moose that was staring me down at close range a couple years ago when we were mountain biking. I had to call him off the moose so we could try to make an escape!

Anyway... he's a good example of an ideal, larger APBT. He is 65 lbs, which is as big as you want them to get. Any larger and they loose agility and aren't as effective as a fighting machine. I think dog fighting is distasteful, but it did breed a dog that's a great pet , extremely healthy, with some truly admirable traits. I doubt I'd own another one, mostly because other dogs try to engage him in dominance tests far too often. He's never hurt another dog badly, but pits aren't going to back down or try to de-escalate the situation with another dog. They are more than happy to fight, given the chance.

Same dog different name.
If you want to know how I know I'm a former evaluator for the AKC, hold 2 certifications for dog training and have been working with dogs/animals professionally since '98.

While this is true, they aren't the same dog any more. The conformation standards are different between the clubs. The ADBA dogs certainly are the closest to what ABPTs used to be (before the split into staffie and pit) and usually don't look anything like Staffies anymore.

So saying it's the same dog with a different name just isn't true anymore. In fact, many people don't even recognize a true apbt anymore, they think big fat dogs like staffies and "bandoggs" are apbts. The Media is especially ignorant in this regard and most "pit bull" attacks in the media aren't even apbts.

Ive got a pitty x bully does the job well but my next guard dog id like a little bigger and not so aggressive around other dogs. Has saved a grow or two and avoided being stolen one night

Staffys are out for me too small not loud enough and sometimes too friendly and yes they go missing in OZ too specially show/ and nice puppies, bandogs mastiff x staffy are legal here seem to have a good nature with other dogs maybe not cats nobodys throwing it over the fence or going to get in an enclosed back yard with it.

Rottys are good value basicly free, well inbred here now so we are seeing some problems resulting in dumping of this dog because the owner hasnt got the coin for an OP.

we had a Sharpei next door at one stage Am fighter and a chinese fighter made for a noisy night if rats dogs or other are up to no good.

i got 2 full blooded APBT bred from some of the best and oldest fastlane breeds. In general they are very affectionate to people if and i say if you let them.my dogs are only permitted around family so these are the only peeps they know.because of this they go bullistic around strangers.people are scared to be near they cages cause they go so hard trying to get out and look like they will kill them if they do.while they were not bred to bite people some of the sires and damns of some of the most prolific bloodlines were known on occasion to be people biters.now sence they have never bitten anyone i cant say 4 sure but im pretty sure mine would.but i know 4 100% certainty that they gonna bark and put on a show and when i hear that the dog is the least of the intruders problem cause anyone with balls enough to try and get past that must mean bizzness so i dont care if i come downstairs and the dogs r just barking or tearing the robber to shreds im still shootin him or them or whatever cause ultimately im not puttin mine and the life my family in the paws of a dog. cause if they realy wanna come in they could just slipp fido a couple chocolate bars(happened to a friend) or simlply shoot it then im realy hurting something cause i love my dogs

I have a female Great Pyrenees that is a great guard dog. 120 lbs, WILL NOT let anyone in the house uninvited. If a squirrel runs through my yard she lets me know. This dog was bred to lay in a pasture all day and just watch over the livestock. Great dog only issue is they were bred to make their own decisions so they are a little harder to train than other breeds.

Boxers!!

Boxers!!

We had an incident last year where a priest walked in the front door after mistakng my house for a near by neighbours who had just had a stroke.
It's quite where I live and if you know someone you just walk in no need for knocking.

I was in the kitchen and the 2 pups were asleep on my bed when he walked in, as quck as a flash Jack my male boxer, he's a big boxer 39 kilos of solid muscle, had the poor guy by the arm and pop my lil girl boxer was latched onto his shoe and both of them were trying to drag him up the hall?

Funny thing is that when they meet strangers in the town or on the country roads where I live the 2 dogs are all waggles.
A stranger comes to the door then they want to have a go at them.

Jack is just about 6 and he's been in 2 fights ( not serious ones ) with other dogs.
Both times it was with strays who growled at the girl boxer when they were off leash in the fields and I was too far away to do anything.

To me the boxer is the perfect guard dog, intellegent, playfull, fiercely loyal to the pack and easy to train.

HHB

you having a laught right..its cocks like this that give pit/owner a bad rep.....your ment to train your attack dog in a safe inviroment..not in your fucking back yard & or in the middle of the street were there could be kids other dog ect ect ect......Gaurd dog my ass that some gheto killer right there,,,shame on the dog if you aske me...and there are 2 people training it to attack,,thats wrong aswell,,gaurd dog = 1 master,,you start getting 2/3 people training it to attack it will get confussed and could end up with random attack......cracking looking dog thought

Mastiffs all day long,,,,i was going to say what about a banddog

keep it green
highlander

your such a dumb fuck these 2 dogs are trained and are UKC PR Majors, ABKC ADBA REG bestfriends to these guys are 2 cats and 4 gerbils
dont talk bout what u dotn know these guys will be your bestfriends or kill u at a commands notice i guess police are bad ppl to for training german sheps the same way ...did i mention i been a REG UKC breeder for 5yrs and last thing i breed for is bad temperment or health ...like i said these dogs are trained from the same methods that army police national guards use so suck my D--- do i need to put up a video of how gental these guys are
just cuz they are trained doesnt mean they are ghetto killers and on top of that u ever own a pitbull ever been to a dog show ever seen the rules we have to go by aggressive dogs are not tolerated in the ring when u got 50 or more other pitbulls few feet away ...u must be one of those dumb fucks who only knows what u seen in the media one more thing every dog is only what u put into them when u been around the breed over 28yrs like i have then pm me or state your opinons....on how we train these dogs.they are big babies or full blown killers its up to u and what u put into them obedience wise and show me a mastif that can move like a pitbull or has the endurance, drive to protect/please a pitbull has u cant ! bout the only thing get u bit other then command around here be picking my kids up or messing with my wife
these dogs are killers tell me why i raise 4 kids ages 5-6-7-8 with them since they were babies

for the record Kano lives across the street with his owners ...all our dogs are trained by me and wife only (with made up words) so ppl cant control them(sic them on other ppl) only we can ....my dogs are so trained they wont even eat for anyone other then me the wife or the kids no matter how hungry they get due to i dont want them posioned by pitty haters only time ive let my dogs do anything is when this 4yo lil boy was being mualed by 2 full grown rottys who were caged and kenneled up with no social lifes at all got loose and i let my boys choas and O.Z attack them to save the kids life

i agree with above if u dont want pits get a boxer i raised AKC boxers for 12yrs before moving on to pits ...but in my opinon boxer is more likely to bite then a pit w/o notice but make great guard dogs and excellent companions to kids and adults my boxer of 21yrs passed away and i didnt want another so therefor moved on
