how much more do you yield cos i recon from the pics ive seen you get less than just normal.

please educate me why is it superior explain away

You can read the vertical grow forum yourself and see there are grow diaries detailing some high yield 2# per 1000w light yield rooms or near close.

It is not up to us to convince you it is better but for yourself to seek out on your own the information to satisfy that which you wish to know. Why have people 'convince' you to grow a certain way. Seek out the grow style, learn about it, and make a judgment call. The differences between horizontal and vertical are definitely quantifiable.

Look for posts by SensiSamurai, or RedSpaghetti and don't just sit back and expect everyone to "explain away" for you.

I'm in the middle of my first very experiment with a 600w HPS. I have two weeks to go until harvest and so far my opinion on vertical vs horizontal in undecided.
The big plus is that there is no popcorn type lower bud. The buds are long and cover the whole plant. They are not as fat as my horizontal but with horizontal I only really got nice tops and then crappy popcorn all the way down.
The buds don't look big though when compared to comparison pics of my previous horizontal grows at the same stage. But having no popcorn and long buds may prove better.
In a couple of weeks I will let you know what my final opinion is and whether my next grow will be vert or horiz.

it is, but when the question has been extensively answered .... as SC pointed out.

You might not want to spend time trawling through threads, but there is gold in them thar threads, amongst the drivel, jive and buttkissing... I think you always get further sifting through, understanding the basics and then asking high quality questions of the knowledgeable. If you do not bother learning all the basics, the experts rarely bother helping you nail the details... it applies in all fields.

From what I have seen/learned/experienced, Vert clearly gives more yield per watt. As I said to a friend last night, imagine a table of 20 pots, laid out flat, 2d, them imagine raising the ones on the outside up a foot, giving them side lighting but not shading anything in the middle, in my mind, you will clearly get more yield, for free. Going beyond that is also win-win, but from time spent "trawling through threads" it seems to be far harder to dial in the system and planting pattern, but it is clearly, unarguably, rewarding when done right. I have just done my first Vert and would not really bother setting up another flat 2d garden again...

Ho ho growing since the 70's so you are all grown up!

Too bad all your years of growing didn't give you the insight to see in your own head the difference between vertical and horizontal and instead of researching for yourself you rely on strangers to tell you what is better and what you should do for yourself. That sure is grown up!

Spending a few hours reading the forum for the information YOU WANT is not exactly 'trawling or spending your LIFE wasted'.

But i guess you are the kind of person that waits for hand outs. And i should have realized that grasping the obvious was outside the realm of what you are wishing to do after seeing all those damn spelling errors. There is a built in spell checker but i guess you were too lazy to use that as well.

Good luck!

Stoner Chick is right, there are a lot of way you can do vertical, you have to find out which one suit you best and go from there to master it.

If you look at your bulb horizontally with a hood, then compare it with a vertical with out a hood. If you can tell the differences between those 2, and how the lights output between those then you will understand why vertical is a better way to go. Ofcourse, there are a lot of ppl with out strong exhaust or cooling power, which is why they are afraid to use the bare bulb. Once you switch you'll never look back.

IMO you can reach the gpw game a lot faster and easier with vertical than horizontally. But dont take my words for it, give vertical a try and you'll know what i mean :D.

Cheers,
red.

Just like you are worrying about me?

It doesn't take rocket science to read the forum and LEARN.

So because i am on my first grow means i am know nothing that needs to keep my mouth shut and know my role?

What i said to him was help and was supported by more than 1 post. Tough shit if you can't handle my posts. Use the ignore. :blowbubbles:

And if you read my post instead of bitching at me, you would have saw that I DID HELP HIM OUT. I gave him 2 names of 2 people doing awesome vertical grows that he could look at and instantly have his questions answered, IF HE WOULD HAVE READ. But what am i thinking...you didn't read either. Go figure..

My reflector is a Sunleave one. I did not get the kind with the holes for fans in them because i didn't understand what the holes were for when i was shopping for lights and hadn't run across ICMag yet.

i do read. when you are posting stuff like this i think it best you keep your trap shut.

Each method of growing has its pros and cons.

I have found that vertical is nice for keeping
plant count down with fewer but larger plants.
It also tends to help with my stretch if I keep the light
a little lower during the 1st couple of weeks of flower.

LOL. Someone obviously is butt hurt.

It matters not that i ask questions. That is how you learn. And i learned what a reflector was on my own without asking questions because the information was here at ICMag, which i clearly stated.

I said nothing wrong. I pointed the OP in 2 different directions to help him with vertical growing - he chose to not read. And for some reason you are bitching at me for not knowing ~everything~ or being admittedly ignorant and now saying because i did not know what a reflector was i can't possibly give this person right information?

You obviously just have an axe to grind. If you don't like what i have to say - USE THE IGNORE.

And when you are trying to make a point with someone elses words, it helps if you use the QUOTES.

Also, i forgot to add early that since going vertical the tempratures compared to horizontal in the same size room actually went down. I found this to be because of the hood. When horizontal you use a hood and it pretty much acts as a heat trap in the room, when I went bare bulb I noticed a good temperature difference.
I use an over sized fan, its 8" 745cfm and I use an energy saving variac to control the speed. I only need to run the fan at 50% to cool the tent and this results in a much quieter fan too.

I honestly can not think of a worse way to ask for help.. The first people that come into your thread DO point you in the correct direction and you insult/degrade them. You are rediculous.. How can you expect to learn if you do not show respect to the people that do it so well and can actually teach and help you. Show respect and it will be returned to you, along with many of the answers to your questions.

If you read and learn, you won't have to ask the "dumb" questions. I know many think that there is no such thing as a "dumb" question, but there is no reason for unnecessary questions when you can easily read up and figure out what is best for your specific situation.
Growing has SO many variables that trying to "convert" you is just pointless.. You need to figure out what you think you will like the most and run with it.

Good luck in whatever you go with
