1st grow: X-Line Bubblegummer 600w Hempy From Seed

picture.php

Hi, and welcome to the Kingsley Zissou grow journal. :tiphat:

I finally stopped being a renter and ponied up and got myself a mortgage. So, instead of painting the walls, or tearing up the carpet, I decided to finally start my first grow. I've always dreamt of having a hobby grow, but never felt comfortable as a renter. I've been reading and collecting supplies slowly but surely over the last couple months. Thanks to everyone here :thank you:, I've decided on the following:

start date: 5/1/10
strain: X-line Bubblegummer x 5 from seed
light: 600w MH/HPS. Digital ballast. xtrasun 6" hood. 18/6
medium: 2 gallon hempy buckets with 100% perlite
nutes: BC nutes
grow space: 2x4x5 DIY tent with panda and pvc
ventilation: Lasko 12" blower fan modded with a big ol carbon scrubber
water: tap. 7.0ph, but the nutes bring it down to 5.9-6.1

Temps have been roughly 80-82 when lights on and 70ish lights off. Hopefully it will be a cool summer here in Seattle ;)

So far I have been watering once a day half strength nutes and just moved up to full strength a couple days ago. Roots should be hitting the res soon I think. I'll probably veg for another 7 - 10 days I think.

The leaves seem to be a bit big for its size. I think this may be due to having the light to close for a few days there. Today is day 14 from when their first light. If you have any advice please lay it on me. Here are some pics for now, and I'll update again soon.

no advice sorry ive just made the switch from soil to hempys so will be keeping a close eye..everything sounds and looks good man..plants lookin healthy..happy growing.

Caught my first wif of them when I came home today, so I hooked up the scrubber. You think its ok sitting on the ground like this? I hesitate to hang it up as its kinda heavy and my hood is also quite heavy.

Carbon scrubbers are designed to be hung horizontally, but they work when situated vertically as well. Just make sure you put it in a well ventilated spot.

You should be good already.

Good looking grow. I'll smoke to this.

Peace

Little update. :tiphat:

I spent some more time getting things dialed in a bit more. Hopefully for the better :p

My fan, Lasko 12" blower, is pumping some serious air and the air blowing out of it is kinda loud. I like to keep the door to the room that the grow is in open to let cooler fresher air in while I'm at home, so I decided to dive into the world of DIY mufflers. This is my first attempt with shit I found around the house. It works pretty good so far. I may have another go at it though with some better materials.

I took a plastic tub we had and cut a hole in both sides and made a "tube" with some chicken wire that I had

Then wrapped it in a Web Absorber Odor Control Filter

then stuck an old temperpedic pillow on top of it

Then snapped the lid on and taped up the edges real good. I cut a hole in the bottom of it, wide enough for the full width of the fan and just long enough for the blower end to fit in. It blows through the filter and down and baffles out both side.

I also decided to swap out my cheap'o ducting that I was using for some nice insulated duct, as it was rumbling pretty good from the airflow. Both measures have cut down on noise drastically. I think I could cut out even more with a better DIY muffler. lol. sigh.

Here is what my dope is looking like so far. I did top them about 26 hours ago. I'm still contemplating if that was a good idea or not. Live and learn! we shall see.

Thanks for stopping in. Thanks for the comments Budz and Eastbay. If anyone has any advice or suggestions or ideas, I'm all ears.

Oh, I almost forgot. My digital ballast gets crazy hot, so I put it on some 1x3' blocks to get a little curculation. Still too hot. I popped an 80mm fan in front of it about 2 inches away. Dynomite. It makes it WAY cooler. I was impressed. My first tip! :jump:

sure is fun. :tiphat:

Hey thanks Doc. Yeah that fan is the shiz. My wife loves it... which means it wont be in the tent much longer lol.

But, totally random, I saw these little vornados on woot last week. 2 for $30! Should be here tomorrow ^.^

I'm going to hit it from both sides.

I gotta tell ya. I'm having a blast with my new hobby. Here's some pics. No major changes, but I've hit the res, and things are looking sharp.

I cant thank ICmag and all the posters enough. I've learned so much here and its really paying off (so far!). Also, a big shout out to Dalaihempy and the hempy scholars out there. This site is tits, and hopefully I can give back to the community soon. :tiphat:

Day 22 of veg from seed:

I have a screen built, but I havnt decided if I'm going to use it yet or not. Any opinions on that? If I dont use it, I think I'm going to flip to flower in the next couple days?

Any and all advice is appreciated here. :chin:

Yeah I made a screen that slots right into the frame. 2'x4'. I think I may put'er in tonight. I'll post up some pics if I take the plunge. :ying:

Thanks oSGo. :tiphat:

So it looks like I was a little too ambitious when I built my tent frame and the slots for the screen are to high. I added some make shift legs and wrestled it in there.

I'm not married to the execution just yet, but it looks workable.

They started pushing up through the screen, so I popped in the HPS and adjusted my timer to 12/12. I'll give them their first flowering nutes tomorrow I think. I'm thinking I'll just fire off a full dose and see what happens :p

Coolest digi ballast in town. I picked up these usb 80mm fans and AC adapter from craigslist for $5. They work alot better and quieter than the old shitters I had cooling it.

12/12 day 2.

When do I start clearing out all the fan leaves from under the screen? I'm a little confused on clearing fan leaves in general if anyone has any tips. There seems to be a lot of shading going on. I've been tucking mostly so far.
