Where is your turntable???

Had a nice Sansui high end turntable. One day I came home from work to find out my (future ex) wife had taken it to Salvation Army. I bought it in Germany when Germany was WEST Germany. It was a great turntable.

Ding, your the first to mention that. My first roommate was former Army and his Audio gear was from being over there. He told tales of bring back some hash while stationed over there. Whoa........going that far back makes my head hurt. My first time outta the house too. One of those "Nicest Guys You Could Ever Meet People"

Sansui seems to come to mind for most of it. Turntable had a speed strobe. Early Quad stuff too. I was in heaven, gear I never dreamed of as a young lad and guitar player......snif, snif...........

I have two Technics turntables, both work perfectly, and I use them often. People love to give their album collections away these days (after figuring out that they are almost worthless), so our collection has become enormous through the years. When I feel like reminiscing, nothing takes me back more than that pop when the needle first touches the record.

My father had one of those Garrard ones.Came with a thin cheap plastic cover, that was the first one i got to try. out.I had one of those Marrantz stereo units.Great blue color with the brushed alumium, those things were powerfull and could easily blow out any set of speakers if you weren't carefull.I have some dj turntables ,as well as an automatic one i use lately, for just being lazy. You can buy cartridges with needles in bulk ,between 3-10 dollars each from mat electronics.

Got rid of most of the old stereo stuff except for one ,the JVC 4-channel music center..I don't even use it anymore ...But the dials look like something out of a submarine...I just couldn't part with it ...nice thread remembering old stereos/turntables....

Seriously, how many of us still have them? Mines on a shelf in a closet. Kids have my amp and speakers. I've been MP3ing since I can remember. Maybe a dozen or so LPs in the closet and a couple of "45s" (not the gun, its in another closet) So as the old commercial goes, Its 1 am in the morning, do you know where your turntable is? (and who its been hanging out with.)

Mine is still in the console I bought it in. On it's 2nd motor. Right next to the packard bell 8 track and woven cane speaker covers. . . If you think 78's are odd, you should see how they did recordings to produce the masters for them.

Turntable tricks

Turntable tricks

This reminded me of an album "trick" noticed only because of my youthful habit of falling asleep with the stereo on. The LP "Fly By Night" by Rush ended side one with "By-tor and the Snow Dog". My roommates turntable was a "manual" and one night I woke up to a turntable still spinning and the bells still playing. They had put sound all thru the trailer (with the expected pop where the trailer had to repeat). I wouldn't have noticed it it was a semi or automatic. Thought it was a neat effect. It was an early/original "pressing" and I don't know if they did it in later re-issues after the group exploded. On any other album that "pop" was a definite sign to get up and put something else on.............Any one else notice that, or I could be having a bad flash back???

^^ I have that album. I'll have to check it out when I get back home.

My player is still hooked up to my sound system. Ready to go. Use it whenever I have buds over. All my good music is on vinyl or mp3.

I have no use for CD players!!

I think I have every musical gadjet known to man -my phone carries +900 songs!

My turntable is hooked up to my PC, I could copy them to CD´s but that would be a waste of good vinyl.

My 500+ LPs of the old days have been collecting dust in cardboard boxes the attic for more than 10 years... Now my 16 y-o daughter is pressurising me to get them out, but my Technics turntable has been thrown away years ago :)

My turntable is at the center of the living room blasting the good old "Paranoid" album by Black Sabbath, and I don't even remember any of the 80's!

It's right there ready for use but it makes an annoying click every spin so I rarely use it. Even opened it up once but couldn't get it fixed.
