weak smelling grass to grow

i live in a block of flats, with neighbours above, below and on three sides of the flat.

you must buy a carbon filter and fan, low odor strains would be good as an extra precaution, but a fan and filter is the peice of kit you need most if your growing and is definatly worth the money mine cost half the price of my grow.

can anyone recommend any?
i'm also a total novice when it comes to growing(i thought all u needed was soil water and a light bulb, lol),so any suggestions of strains thats good for a beginner to start with will be much appreciated.

cheers guys

it is pretty much it m8, HPS light, some MP compost w/added john innes pots and some multi purpose nutes. my first grow and it worked absolutly fine from me, just waiting for them to finish.

good luck

its been said, but i'll say it again. do not grow without a carbon filter. low odour strains will still smell when ripe - you will still need a fan and filter

Every white widow I have tried reeked during veg. The Durban did also. They were the two worst I have ever come across. It's the hashy/spicy smell that seems to make it so noticeable.

Another solution is to convert an innocent air cleaner into a carbon room scrubber. You can leave this running and crank it right up with no loss of stealth just say its allergies or dust mites. The noise can also serve to cover up the sound of you extractor fans and scrubber. I have tried all sorts of methods of using computer fans for small carbon filters and generally the fail. They just aren't designed for static pressure. It would be nice if we could get small squirrel cage style fans that were actually quiet. This fan is the closest I have found that fits the bill so far, only 12 watts on low:

Holmes scrubber

The lowest odor strains I have come across were Thai and New Purple Power. They smell plenty but generally only when you disturb the trichs. Seems like the sativas tend to have that characteristic more than Indicas which are more likely to smell in veg and to be hashy. So it sounds like C99 would be a good choice.

I have used a carbon filter in the past, but now I use an ozone generator, it kills any smell and helps protect the plant from infections or insects.

All strains of cannabis stink, sometimes that stink is like rotting road kill and you can smell it from a mile away, other times it has a more exotic or milder flavour, but it always stinks.

Some plants only stink a little, so you'll probably only be able to smell them from the bottom of your street. You'll be fine as long as a PCSO or copper or general busybody never walks down your street, and you don't mind all your neighbours knowing. That's as stealthy as it gets without a decent CF or 03 generator.

Christ on a bike, £105 for ten seeds, I would never advise anyone to pay that kind of money, particularly in the UK were decent seeds can be bought for a third that price or less.

Spend £20 on a pack of 5 female seeds NL from your local headshop and put the £85 toward a decent CF and fan.

There is a reason for that...if you ever grow them you'll find out.

Or buy the same strain seeds for less elsewhere...and compare the grow/result.

PS:
No offense here...but growing fem seeds shows you must not have been doing this for long...or @ least don't know what fem seeds are about/do to our hobby.
Again NO offense with the above!

Why do people say "no offence" when they know they are going to say something offensive?

I am [a bit] offended that you've dismissed my advice to somebody else and implied I don't know what I'm talking about.

I've been growing for quite a few years now and used femmed and normal seeds. I've been smoking weed for three decades in at least five different countries and hundreds of different strains. For someone starting out I would strongly recommend good fems from a company like Female Seeds. I've grown quite a few of their strains including NL and never had a problem. I'm always going back to my female seeds Skunk Special mum because it's by far the best weed that I've grown in terms of strength and yield.

No offence, but I do think that anyone who spends £105 on ten seeds is being ripped off and doesn't know what they're doing.

Exactly what are fem seeds about to do to our hobby?

Something I am asking you to re-search on your own because I am not going to get in to a pissing contest with you (or anyone else for that matter
Why should I research? I've got no doubt that your views on fems are based on some half-arsed psuedo scientific speculation and I'm not prepared to go to davidIcke.com, organicbullshit.com or wherever you got your daft ideas from.

You were happy for a "pissing contest" when you dismissed my advice and insulted me, now you've suddenly changed tack when asked to backup what you're saying.

If you are going to hand out advice and admonishment then you should be prepared to back that up with evidence.

And now you suggest seeds at £145 a packet, are you working for seed boutique? You are giving absolutely terrible advice. The OP wanted to know if there are any decent low odour strains that he could grow without a CF, the fact is that there aren't and spending 10* the going rate for seeds isn't going to change that.

All right for starters here: Try breeding with fem seeds.

Well I hope you have something more substantial for the main course.

Why should I or anyone be interested in breeding? Unless you've got massive commercial facilities allowing you to grow crops of three or four hundred plants at a time your chances of breeding something better than is commercially available are zero.

Seeds are basically a crap option that we have to put up with in the UK because we aren't allowed to trade legally in cuttings. Anyone who gets into breeding on a small percy scale simply doesn't understand the basic genetics.

Northern Lights is quite a low smelling plant.

note to BoogerGreen, why can you use a carbon filter in flower & not now? Does your plant have any air flow around it? You could try an odor sock in the room, apart from that you mentioned the other options like incence, plug-ins & oils.
You know its not really worth growing one plant if there is chance it will get found. Sounds like your place is quite busy.

Lowest odour strain i have come across is White Russian its super resinous fast to flower and has fat stocky buds it just has virtually no smell even when you smoke it. Personally I have found the smellier strains to taste nicer but if smell is a big security risk White Russian could be the way forward. Another strain i havn't tried but is meant to be low odour but still killer is bogs sour bubble (if you can find it it sells out quick).

I had some widow x ny diesel and they didn't smell much at all until the last couple weeks and even then they didn't smell like weed....I had one really fruity smelling pheno too, that one would be perfect for outdoor grow, just smells like citrus fruits...

hey guys.cheers for all the replies.internet was of for a while, hence the late reply.
i tried growing c99 but got really para near the end and cut them down.
i was gutted but couldn't handle the worry anymore.

i think a carbon filter is the way to go for anyone who enjoys their sanity!

I was hoping you knew that from the beginning!?!?!

i did but could barely afford the light never mind a carbon filter. i'm also the most impatient person in the world and couldn't wait till i got one.
won't be making that mistake again!

nirvana superskunk is pretty low odour and very potent. the 60day pheno barely smells at all even during flower theres only a very slight fruity smell.

@BoogerGreen, WW stinks, theres quite a few strains that no matter what stage of growth they are in, they will stink your place out. funny thing as well.. Males can stink too.
i find after finding a female and taking a clone and then cloning from that, that smell is reduced significantly. most smell comes from the stems, rub them with your finger and you'll see.
