Ballast too heave to mount on the wall/

I wanted to mount my 2 ss10 ballasts on the wall. They weight 40lbs a piece (so 80lbs total) and I'm worried about lag bolting that much weight to the studs,

I wanted to mount them to the right of my powerboard so I put a couple 2x4's between the studs. I have a piece of plywood I wanted to drill and use bolts, washers and nuts to attach the ballasts to the board. Then screw the plywood to the 2x4's...

I'm just thinking 80lbs is a hell of a lot of weight to have just hanging there.

I bought a wire shelf for them to sit on but I would rather have the open floor space.

Anyone mount there's on the wall and had it fall off? What did you use to fasten them?

Thanks a ton

I too have been worried about the same thing. I am interested in seeing some responses as well.

Currently I have 2 2x4's running across 4 of my ceiling beams and just have the ballasts hanging off the 2 2x4's with some chain.

I screwed large, heavy-duty hooks int the studs and hung the ballasts on short chains - 3 hooks, 2 ballasts.

I dont have my pics handy, but I had 9 ballast kits mounted to a sheet of plywood. They didnt have the box, but surely 9 kits weighed more than your two complete ballasts. I just mounted them to the plywwod using drywall screws, and screwed the board to the studs. That stayed up for 2 years

I also relocated those ballasts to another spot. I had open studs like you and built a small shelf fom 2x4's. I nailed 2 2x4 that were roughly 12" long in two spots (they came straight out, 90 degrees to the wall), then used a couple 2x4's to make a shelf. Strong as hell

Lag bolting is strong. I have built shelfs in my garage and lag bolted the back of the shelf to the wall and I had a ton on those shelfs. I easily stood on them

how did this turn out for you george? what size bolts did you use to mount them to the wall? I was planning on mounting mine to the wall but the weight is kind of concerning me. the mounting holes on my ballast handle seem kinda small for the ammount of weight they are supposed to support.

I used bolts and nuts to fix the ballasts to 3/4 inch plywood. Then screwed that board to the studs...... couldn't rip the thing down with a crowbar probably.
