Dundees' 156w CFL Stealth Box

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to buy good square pots/containers online, or in a store? I am looking to transplant the plants into their own containers, something a little taller and preferrably square. Maybe like 4x4x5(or 6) or 5x5x6. The containers the plants are in now are just leftover ones from my last growbox that were very well suited for that one since I had very little height. Now I have a bit more height to work with so I want some containers I can put more soil in.

costco milk jugs are sq. they offer some light protection but would most likely need additional measures. I have a few that i will trying out shortly, they are 5.5"x5.5"

Woah I didnt even think about the costco milk jugs, I buy my milk in those hahaha.

Do you know how far they go up before reaching the handle? Can you make a 5.5x5.5 x 6 or 7 or 8 inch high container with them? I would probably cut right below the handle part and use the bottom half or whatever, but unfortunately I dont have a jug in my fridge right now to check.

to the bottom of the handle is a little under 6" the total height is 10", i will be cutting right across the top, the handle doesn't take up much. In a 24" x 25" cab i will be able to fit 4 rows of 4 comfortably.

Little update from today.

All of them hanging out.

More node pics :), they each have one more than last time!

And the big one, cant really see the nodes on it.

Some of the leaves are looking a bit wrinkly and deformed, going to check the PH of the runoff this next watering and see how its doing. Still growing nice and fast though!

wow! your plants are looking amazing man, cant wait to see them go into flower!

that big one has some amazing node spacing! imagine, thats gunna be one solid nug! three times the size! *drooooool*

if you look, you can see the pots with two plants in it, if you combine those plants into one plant, you get the plant thats in its own pot :p funny huh?
:)

Took a little trip out of town for a few days, got back last night and the plants were looking a bit sad. Guess I hadn't watered them enough. Anyway, I gave them a good watering right before lights out. When the light came on today I took some new pics, they perked back up great.

Tucked away in the box:

Sideshot, kinda haha:

Three more days and I am going to change the bulbs, flip the lights to 12/12 and start flowering :).

Looks good. I do not think you need the glass. I vegged my plants under 52 watt cfl with reflector and maybe 1 inch above tops, no burn. I think you lose about 10% light with the glass.
Either way tho. A v shaped reflector a inch or two above the lights would almost double your light. You are doing fine as you are tho.

It has been a few days since I posted an update so here we are! Almost 3 days into flowering, switched the bulbs and light cycle. Finished off the last Veg Nute watering the night I flipped the lights, probably going to start them on Flowering Nutes tonight when the lights come on.

On the 17th I had another seed that I was germing sprout, so its the tiny one in the container in the back. It only had 3 days of veg, so it is basically getting the 12/12 from seed treatment. I'm more curious how it acts than really worried about if it yields or whatever haha, should be interesting.

I LST'd the 4 plants in the one container to their respective corners a little bit, to get some space in the middle and encourage some of the new growth towards there :).

Whoa, nice grow! You must be proud of your little ladies. That one on the right is looking particularly bushy indeed, baby got pow! Which strain was that? sorry if you said and i missed it.

I'm just starting a little grow myself almost the exact same size (just an inch wider and deeper) with 220w (and maybe another 60w if I can fit them in). Just waiting for the seeds to pop... I was wondering if your in the uk (dundee could be bonnie scotland, oz or elsewhere) where did you find the different shade bulbs? I can only find one type in homebase/b&q and max 20w and don't want to go for the 125w if I can help it to spread the light out. If you don't want to say where you found them for privacy reasons, no worries at all bro, I respect that and will keep hunting :)

Also what those blue stones are for... is it a humidity tray? Do the roots of the plants come out of the bottom of the pots into it?

Sorry for all the questions, you've an inspiring and simliar grow! :D Can't wait to see how this turns out, got the popcorn ready! :rasta:

Haha, no worries on all the questions bro, I am more than happy to help if I can!

As far as the strains go, I really have no idea. I had some leftover Somatooth Biko x C99 and freebies and a few bagseed from good bud I threw into the container to germ. So it could be anything honestly, this is basically the test run. If that one turns out to be a female, I might reveg her though, I do like the bushyness as well :). I am in the US, I used online retailers to find the different shade bulbs. Particularly the ones that cater to our hobby as they have the correct spectrum bulbs. Not sure about any websites in the UK though.

The blue stones are just gravel that you would put in a fish tank, I put them in the bottom of the tray because all of the plants drain into one tray instead of their own dish. That way it gives about 1/2 inch of space for the excess water from all the pot to go, so they dont sit in a puddle basically.

Hey 100%dundee. Cheers for the reply. I'm hoping for ya that the bushy one turns out to be an awesome female!

I decided in my sleep last night that I'm giving up on cfls and going for hps, can't find anything more than 20w anywhere, bloody uk!

Ahhh so the gravel tray is a run of tray majiggy. I see, must make watering easier and such, nice idea..

Looking forwards to seeing these bud! I'll be joining you shortly I hope (Saw my first taproot today! :jump: )

Update!

Plants started to show sex about two days ago, 5-6 days into flowering. The first one to show was the biggest plant, formerly seen on the left. I say formerly because it was a male, and therefore disposed of :). Sorry pal, no need for you currently!

In other, related, news. The next two biggest plants showed sex right after that one did and they are both female! The three littler ones havent shown sex fully yet so I still am not sure, probably at least one more male in there somewhere. Ill find him when/if he shows himself :).

Anyway, onto the pics!

Heres the first female to show, tried to take a pic of the other one but the focus was off.

Oooee, the ladies are looking festively plump. Have you grown more than one plant in a rectangle container before? I was debating doing this next time. My only thought was that I would be limited to how many positions I could put the plants in. How has it been so far? Also, how deep are the containers? Do you think the bushy-ness of the plants is due to the container depth?

Never did more than one plant in these rectangle containers before, these are just the containers I used in my last grow since they fit the box perfectly there. I do prefer rectangle or square containers though, they just fill up the space more efficiently. Those pots are about 8inx3inx3in. The male I pulled out was about one day older than the oldest plant left in there though, and much larger and bushier as well. His roots only took up the bottom 1/3 of the container at that stage, so I think these should be just fine with the 2 plants in them. Might get a little crowded down there towards the end of flowering if they are all girls though.

As for the bushyness, I actually trimmed all of them about 4 days ago. Cut off all the major fan leaves that were blocking lower bud sites and stuff at about ~1 week into flower. So they are a lot less bushy now than they were a few days ago hah. I attribute that to just keeping the plants close to the light, keep the nodes nice and close and tight. Pretty key things to do with CFL growing since we do not have the same kind of light intensity that HID growers do.

aah true that man, i hear ya :p sorry for taking so long to reply, but i've been busy lately with my grow! should check it out sometime :dance013:

i keep my plants as close as possible, but lately ive been noticing some bleaching and have moved them down a tad. im pretty sure bleaching on the main head is a bad thing with new vegitative growth =.=

anyways, your plants are looking great, good ratio of girls to guys so far!! congrats man, doin a bang up job
