400w bagseed+soil grow

day 34 of flower... I will be flushing and feed again tomorrow. A couple lower branches of one plant had some nuts and thus grew some seeds. I cut off the offending branches, and all the rest looks fine, hermi free. This resulted in a little bit of early bud... drying out here

I'm keeping a close eye out for more balls... damn shemale bits!

Built a screen and supports for one of the clones in veg. will probably vege for 4-5 days then chuck it into flowering once it reaches the screen, or just after. here it is: was topped 2 days ago. it's loving the new pot.

keke,
chur bro, looks like you've got a pretty sweet op too. As for the 1m tent, smallest I can find is 1.2x1.2m. I'm planning on 2x400w or 400cmh and 600hps. This is only after my living arrangements for the next few months are sussed - don't wanna have to abandon the whole project!

SSH,
I'm thinking the clawing is some combination of: feeding some N into early flower, rootboundness.

And yeah, kiwis are a friendly bunch for the most part. Pity the police and politicians here make it hell legally for tokers... come on just decriminalise it already!

some clones, and the last 4 seeds from the same bag

Just tied down the plants and trimmed away some of the fan leaf growth that I couldn't tuck under the ties. I've exposed a few more bud sites hopefully upping my yeild some more :) I'll get pics tomorrow.

The broken stemmed plant is recovering, though the main top isn't looking too happy. does anyone have suggestions on how to help a plant recover from a semi snapped cola stem? The top growth looks alive, though a little droopy, but it's still alive, is it worth me leaving it attached, or would I be better off cutting it off completely, so the plant can focus on other growth. I'm worried about stress, do you think this much damage would be likely to get a plant to turn hermie? Here's an (albeit bad) photo of the damage yesterday:
picture.php

I'm over 15 days late in answering this but so long as it was in veg and you left it alone - you should see that the stem area ballooned around the bruise by now ;) I'm a plant abuser in veg.

hey does anyone know somewhere good to upload images to that's secure and can be hotlinked? I've maxed out my gallery on IC already... In need of some serious hosting, as I love my pics :)

@sumdumguy: Cheers, I was quite suprised as to how well that break healed up. It was about 3/4 of the way through the stem, like the plant barely held together for the first few days. Weed grows like a weed :D

The plants are maturing fast, beginning to see cloudy trichs on a few heads. I've got a 60-100x pocket magnifier ... only 6.61 usd (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1328) on the way to examine them. I'm intending to harvest a little on the later side, ie, 30-40% amber trichs, because I prefer couch lock weed. I'll probably experiment with harvest times and trich colours to find the right balance.

I also seem to have a slight thrip problem... there's not a huge infestation, but they've eaten the leaves up a bit now... what's the easiest and most effective way to kill these off without affecting the bud quality so late in flower...? This is worrying me a bit as I don't wanna see plants suffer to the pests, but i can't spray buds with poisonous things ... halp

And seriously someone's gotta know another image hosting site... Or how to put more photos on IC? Or is that just a dream.

If you get some more posts under your belt your photo gallery size will go up.

That's probably the "safest" way to host your pics.

Sup siu, that spray you brought for the thrips doesn't seem that safe/healthy specially when your so close to harvest... The fact that it says it absorbs into the plant is probably your biggest problem. It is a insecticide and fungicide and doesn't say anything about being organic.
IMO, I wouldn't use it, try find something organic. Also with using something like the product late in flower could make the buds smell/taste like the spray.

Good luck.

I pulled the smallest of the plants last ngiht, it was developing hermie traits so for the good of the rest of the grow it had to be done a little early. Almost all cloudy trichs, so it was in the "acceptable" harvest time, just a little early compared to how I like bud.

Will have some pics of it in a day or 2, the cola is drying, I'll probably get around 10g from it, plus popcorn and trim (not a whole lot)

One of my trained beautys is nearing maturity all white trichs, with a few beginning to darken up, while all the other plants look to be about 1 to 3 weeks to completion (assuming no more hermies...)

My plants have all been suffering a mild Mg/P/K deficiency recently, mainly I'm thinking because of having very hard (pH 8) tap water. I've begun adjusting ph to 6.5 or so as I water, to help minimize lockout, it seems to be helping a lot. I've also added a couple tablespoons of brown sugar to my last 2L bottles of feed, I'm getting some molasses soon, but i figured sugar couldn't hurt too bad, the plants seem to love it! no more nutes now until harvest I think!

The thrips are dying off for unknown reason, seems my plants are fairly tough. I left out beer in a plate which caught a hell of a lot of bugs in the room, otherwise I've just been dowsing the plants under the shower, which seems to be effective in killing off the pests, seems pretty natural too. I just have to make sure to let the plants dry out well afterwards and I've had no probs with mold.... at least yet :p

God I'm loving this 100x microscope, it's insane, plants are beautiful on a miniscule scale too!

Peace out, and more pics to come soon.

that sux about the herm, awesome though that you have the inspection piece (100x zoom) to really check out whats going on. gonna have to find one for myself! Thanks for sharing!

I borrowed and subsequently bought a 10.1 megapixel camera to take shots with. It's not the cheapest way to check your trichs, but it is friggin' awesome! I can take a standard pic and then when I put it on the PC and blow it up to 100% I can see every trich in the frame crystal clear.

These are both from the same photo. One on the left has been shrunk to 800x600 and the right one is actual size off the camera, cropped to 800x600.

Before I had this new camera, I was using a Bionicam Eyeclops which is a child's portable digital microscope that takes pictures to a USB flash drive. Bionicam can do 100x, 200x or 400x. It can get some decent shots, but it requires much more effort to get a good shot than the 10.1 megapixel camera. But then again, the Bionicam was only $40 or so and the 10.1 mp camera was about $250.

Still. If you have the cash, sooooo worth it.

I have a Nikon D60 with a standard lens at the moment, but I might be borrowing a 50mm macro lens for it soon, so I'll be able to show you some of the trichey goodness of these babies before the imminent chop!

This microscope is AMAZING for the price! A little peripheral distortion, but so damn powerful, I never knew buds were so beautiful close up! It's totally worth the money, I'd say twice as much would be good value. I'm not even being paid to say this :p, but free shipping from that link I posted before too. It's the coolest toy I've found in months.

One plant in particular, smells of limes and petrol, it's huge, tough, and seems damn resistant to thrips out of all of the phenos. The strongest sativa too.

I think I might re veg her and get a mother. There's one other potential mother too, but I may be forced to tear down soon sadly ... only temporary though! NL and WR are next. maybe even some Skunk#1xHaze and Jack clone action in the future.

I've been feeding the plants brown sugar, as I had no molasses around the house, it seems to be really helping to fatten them up either way.

High pH problems -> Mg deficiency are my biggest concern atm, but I think they're coming right after pH down and some serious flushing. I really need a RO filter with this house's water piping though...

The dried weight of the smallest plant, was around 11 g. This is bone dry now. only a very small amount of seeds too, hermi's are okay if caught early :) Will be curing for a week or 2 and I'll have photos soon too.

I have a couple of little buds water curing too. Just an experiment, because I'm super impatient once the plants are down, and have heard great things...

Peace out all!:dance013:

god damn Thrips are stressing all the plants to hell...

some plants doing better than others, but they're all having trouble with nute def despite being fed VERY well (twice what I've done for any other I've grown... 1:1 flush to feed ratio) I'm thinking this is due to Thrips draining them of energy to heal and so on...

I spend an hour a day looking for balls on my girls and plucking what I see now (ohhhh yeaaaahhh, hahahahh). I think I may have a minor light leak, in conjunction with hermi prone bagseed. Which sucks. I also can't post more pics until my post count goes up, though I'll keep ya'll posted in words till then.

In the one harvested + dried plant, here is no major seed development, maybe one for every 10 bowls I smoke, and mostly they're still quite small. "Semisemella" I call it. Or shemale vag-bollocks. Whatever your preference...

I get the feeling I may have to pull the entire lot early, which is saddening, as i was hoping to let these mainly Sativa dominant plants go for a bit longer and maybe 20-30% amber trichs, instead, I'm in for some trippy very stimulating weed if the little baby I just dried and tried is to be believed.

2 of the plants seem far stronger than the others, less hermi traits, and far denser nuggs, more trich development and smell too. Both have more indica genetics imo. They're doing fine in the crappy hard water, forgetting to water/feed and other general neglect that I am sometimes (shamefully) responsible for, while the more sativa plants, seem to be a lot touchier...

I introduced about 30 baby praying mantises (mantii?) into the room to look after other bug life, so far, they're looking good, all the flying Thrips are gone (there were VERY few to begin with though). I watched one baby mantis eat a thrip larva on a leaf, I'm hoping they all decide to take after this guy... predatory insects are so cool. like guard dogs for the plants!

So, for my next round, I'm hoping to eliminate pests altogether. I'll be installing an intake filter, and minimize outdoors contact between plants and people. What other things should I do to minimize the chance of getting more pest issues? I keep my room at lowish humidity, will be higher in the coming months, and between 22 and 28 degrees in the room.

How can I be sure that my grow area is free of Thrips and other pests before I start new (CLEAN!) plants? Would some kind of bug bomb work if i used it in the grow room?

Also, water curing, 6 days, seems to result in bud that looks pretty damn good, and smokes amazingly smooth and tasty! it also weighs way less than air dried of similar nuggs meaning as this is my personal stash, any less shit i smoke, the better! I'll definitely be implimenting more water curing with later stuff. It'll never replace jars in terms of bud lushness, but it's damn nice anyway! and better for you.

Peace!

Sup siu, your thrips problem doesnt seem to be going away anytime soon. I know they can be a bitch! Good luck on keeping on top of them.
Get 3 more posts under your belt and you'll be able to host 1000 pics I believe.

Keep up the hard work bro.

Peace keke

oh sweet keke... the praying mantissiis seem to like sitting on my plants and eating all of those tiny little bitches! it's all they do! I let most of them out, I have one now, his name is Zorak (think the brak show), heh. There's a few more hiding in the room though, so we'll see, they might get back in the tent at some point. I haven't seen a thrip for a while now. And the plants seem to be doing a lot better in terms of growth without the constant bashing of pests.

The plants were also getting some nute (Mg, Ca) lockout with pH 8 water that was being fed to the plants... I've finally started correcting the pH of water before I add my nutrients, and the growth is beginning to perk up again, yellow stripes seem here to stay, but the new growth is green again :). Will have pics up soon as I reach 50 posts!

I chopped one more plant today, pretty well all cloudy trichs, a few amber, but only maybe 5%. It was the most indica of the plants, it branched quite outward compared to it's siblings, even in the small bag I was using to discourage side branching and grow big single buds, it had heaps more side shoots, yet the same sized cola as the others. This is one of the 3 nice-ish phenos that I've gotten out of the lot of bagseed so far. Two phenos are indica dominant (LST plant labelled "5") and this. Really smelly plants, like, notably stronger than the other ones.

But there's only one pheno I'll keep though. It's A bit more sativa slanted, seems to be slower in flowering than the others, but it smells like cat piss and gasoline in a good way (tiny tester bud confirms it's strong tasting and effecting-like inhaling lemon-petrol vapour or something...in a good way!) It has a similar effect on the brain. It's majorly trich-loaded compared to the others, and really dense nuggs too. I'm going to let it go as long as possible, lots of amber trichomes, whilst hopefully not lots of nanners and seeds.... I'm keen for some super strength natural sleep meds... sick of the pills all the time! Time to engineer my own :)

Being this rootbound did affect the growth of the smaller plants a bit, making under watering a big concern too, as I don't have perl/verm in my mix. Not to say i don't like to use small bags to shape plants quasi-bonsai style, just 3.6L is a bit too small. I think I'll be getting 5 or 6 Litre planter bags tomorrow for future plants. I have the 3 12 litre pots for bigger lst or scrog in future too...

I have to make up a more effective soil mix however, so that I can get my plants in veg room into flower with something in the pots, quick! I'm thinking... 20% pumice, 20% perlite, 60% Max Yeild potting soil. Maybe some dolomite lime and worm castings. Any suggestions or additions would be appreciated. I'm aiming for a well draining soil mix as I flush frequently, but I'm adding some perlite this time because I'm watering FAR too frequently at the moment!

On the note of water...

I'm planning on moving partially to hydro as soon as budget permits a CF meter, so soon all this pot size and mixing soil nonsense can be over! I'm a chemistry kinda guy... Hydro really appeals, but I think to do it right, you need to learn to control the rest of the plant environmental factors, in a more natural and forgiving environment - ie. soil. But I want those HUGE hydro buds when I get my setup going... multi pot dwc scrog, with some of the aforementioned clones and seeds.

Peace all, I'm off to post something so I can show these beautys off! (and of course countribute to the community too :dance013:) - I've learned so much that I know about growing from reading IC and Tokecity. Cheers all!

Peace

Great thread man! I really enjoyed following it. I am almost done my 1st successful grow and have a 2nd grow of autos started a month ago, but I think I overwatered em cuz they still look like seedlings at 3 weeks for the most part, so I transplanted em and now they are growing but it sucks cuz they should have been bigger around the time they started flowering. My 2 snowriders that are only a week older and were planted in a bigger container are almost a ft tall. I wasn't sure about topping but wish I did it to both cuz the one I topped has a lot more buds and it is developing a lot better than the one I left alone...so my LaDivas wont be fiishing in 7 weeks, at least I hope not or they are gonna be like 3 inches tall....so I may just seed em and try again if that is the case. I can seed it with Russiaan Rocket fuel or short mix, so i'll prob use the RRF or my white male that has no pigment....unless I pulled it already, I can't remember...I have a few males I saved...

Anyway I am rambling, just wanted to say thanks for a great thread.
