Great job everyone

Most of the entrants are just average Joes mate, some of the winners were homebred and grown in Bedrooms, Basements and Lofts. The beauty of the 420 Cup is that you can enter and see your finest work judged against the best there is out there. Anybody can do it, you do not need special genetics or a fancy growroom, just the care and the love for the Flower.

The idea of Entrants bagging their own samples seems to be a winner, you know your entry will be at peak condition and it takes a lot of fiddly time consuming work off the organiser's plate. Win-Win and fairer too. Yes, you would loose the "good 1st photo-shoot of the entered buds" but the entrants could be asked to do that themselves as part of the entry criteria.

If some more Judges take notes next year, we could pretty easily come up with a better, broader view of all the entries. If we could agree on a set of criteria and scores you could dump the lot into a database and get really interesting results out.

Likewise, if all the Cup Judging scores were entered into a database you could easily work out whose judging was nearest the average... and whose was not .... ;-)

Judging the Judges... If I have not caused enough trouble already, surely this will now ! :)

we could actually ask for the judges scores to go up on the site as they come in and are entered by the individual judges.....but that could be alot to ask of 30 completely ripped judges after testing 30+ different varieties....to find the internet and enter scores, so probably best done by the organizers methinks....as long as the organizers are not quite so out there as the judges will be after judging....lol

I am willing to help for next years 420cup.

What i found is needed with stoners and people not nowing there way, is a group guide a map with the Spots as people want to be together but just take to much time getting from A to B.

I think a litle group of members should help out next year.

To make it easyer on OP, more info needs to be given to people coming, better planning for that, I can help there aswell i think.

I like the idea of the score sheet's getting printed up also at the end so every1 can see who scored what, I would not have a problem putting my name on it also just so every1 could see what score i gave each sample, and I think that would be pretty cool as well as I got to see a review from Dutchgrown and Chaos, but it would have been nice to see the scores also from the other people that did judge my entry like soma and karma so with the judge sheets getting printed up at the end as well it would give me a better idea what others thought of it, I know its supposed to be a blind judging competition but does it have to be anonymous as well, I wont have a problem putting my name on a judge sheet for it to be printed up to show others what I thought of each sample, would any1 else??? would give me a better idea of what others thought of mine if that was the case, even if it is just numbers. ;)

nice thread, chaos.

you never let me know how you liked the ogkush x purple afghan i gave you.

Interesting point made about curing as I have also found with some strains the smell and strength deterioate after the first couple of weeks.

Chaos....you are a true Cannoiseur!

Only downside of this is that we could'nt have such a good 1st photo-shoot of the entered buds as we usually do because then they would just be in small and bagged pieces.....

raise each entry by an up to 5 gram single bud which could be sent for photographic purposes along with the 30 one gram baggies.

..each entry's 5 gram bud could be also used for appraisal of the manicuring, smell, looks etc in a viewing area...(the "looks" should amount to a maximum of less than 10% of the total score in my opinion)

The 30 one gram baggies sent with the 5 gram bud should be evaluated for potency and the quality of the high (and a few points for taste). I'd like to see the smoke test make up 90+% of the score. It's the quality of the high that's highly important to me..everything else is secondary by a long way.

They say you only really get high once a day, from that first joint. But I reckon you can still accurately judge the potency and to a great extent, the quality of the high, if you keep it down to 3 ~5 samples per day,...so perhaps each judges bag could be reduced to 15 samples instead of the current 30 or more samples so they all can be fairly judged in the three days.

by the way..in the ICMAG 420 Cup - what is a "sativa"....is it classed as a sativa by the high or what strain it is?

I didn't get to this year's cup, but threads like this one make me yearn to attend next year. What an experience it would be!,,,..I've got a feeling the 2011 IC Mag 420 Cup is going to be huge. I'd love to attend, maybe next year!

I'd like to see prizes for best smelling and best tasting bud too.

Many thanks Moppel,

Sorry about that, we were slightly busy trying to get through the entries and sadly your OGK PA did not go down in the book... but... after speaking to my Toking companions and remembering all we can, we agreed the taste was lovely in a joint and it had that OG taste to it but with a little bit of fruity in there too, very nice, many thanks, would like to spend more time with her !

Some nice ideas there Chamba, food for thought....

The Entrants could be asked to provide photos of the crop growing, dried, and some details of the grow as part of the entry, not hard to do and interesting for everybody....

Potency and the High is always hard to judge, many strains for us at home define themselves after days or weeks of smoking, some get boring or you get a big tolerance, others slowly sneak into your heart by showing themselves to be great smokes week after week... Plenty of Sativas have long complex effects that are very hard to identify and appreciate during an intense smokeathon, you are a sample or two down the line when she is still rocking your boat... Smoking pretty much all out samples in a pipe made it a lot easier than last years joints, just a little 0.1 lets you judge the effect without getting thoroughly spanked

If we open up the scores, we get to see what is the highest scoring bud for taste and smell bud, as well as the Judge whose scores are closest to the overall average.

Any ICers out there who are good with Databases and SQL ?

this is a fantastic idea, it would be so cool to see the grow threads of the entries after the cup is over

yes ideally i'd need to smoke each sample for at least 2 days to really get to know how good it is, but this is practically impossible to do from an organizational point of view. but this is definitely the reason the buds that get passed out get more detailed analysis.

If we open up the scores, we get to see what is the highest scoring bud for taste and smell bud, as well as the Judge whose scores are closest to the overall average.

yeah would make it very interesting, as you could also see how that judge scored the samples over all.
