400w MH+HPS/ Vented Grow Tent/ 4 Purple Kush Clones/ Living with a Tent

Finally back with a new grow fresh off my successful bag-seed test grow endeavor.
Yes it is easily possible to grow quality herb in an apartment.

This time things are serious.


Let's get to it.

Stats:

Strain- Purple Kush clones from Harborside Health Center in Oakland, California.
Lights- 400w MH conversion bulb for veg; 400w AgroMax HPS for flower.
Grow Area- 40x40x78 grow tent from HTG.
Medium/Water- Kellog's Outdoor Patio Soil (organic) with 30% perlite. 4 gallon pots. RO water. Runoff at 6.7 pH.
Ventilation/Odor/Atmosphere- 360CFM (combined) exhaust through carbon filter and sealed hood. 100CFM intake at the bottom. Temps range 72-84. Humidity 35-45%.
Nutrients- Earth Juice Grow and Grandma's Best molasses for veg, Earth Juice Bloom, Grandma's Best molasses, and Bloombastic for flower
Feeding/Water Cycle- Water usually every 5-6 days or when they feel light at a rate of water-water-feed-water-water-feed


Now I have been growing these things for about a month and they are just now starting to take off.

Starting from the beginning when I first planted the rockwool cubes into 1/2gal grow bags. This was about a month ago. They were under about 200w (actual) of CFLs for about 2 weeks the transplanted to 4gal pots.

Aaaand now here we are today. Two champs and two chumps (but catching up).

All of my clones have had pre-flowers from the start and will, I'm guessing, have them until I flower them.

And lastly some pictures of my setup and ventilation. Lights come on at 7pm at night and go off at 1pm. Smells like a dentist's office in here! LOL

Well that's all I have in me for today. These brownies are starting to hit me hard and the typing is not getting any easier.

Hey nice looking grow...ill be keepin an eye on this one, I got 4 purple kush from harborside going under a 400 also,3 are strong and one is alive... my area is much smaller though... were yours pretty slow off the bat? I've had mine going for two weeks and they have only grown about 3 inches but look strong.And how long was it before you switched to the 400?

That club is like an ant farm so I am not surprised to see more people growing clones from them lol.


One of my plants is just absolutely thriving, two others are growing well, and one is lagging for some reason. Been growing for about a month now. Had them on CFLs for a couple weeks before the switch to the CMH.

I'll post my grow notes in the first post and update from now on.

Hey does anyone think it would be worth it to get insulated ducting? Or does anyone know a good DIY to turn regular un-insulated ducting --> insulated?

So today I replaced all my ducting.

Last night while I was checking all my ducting and pondering changing it out anyways for insulated ducting, I came across several large rips and an incredible amount of pinhead sized holes in my ducting!!!

I don't see how this is possible since basically all I did was take it out of the box and attach it when I got it. I treated it like I was putting up tinfoil (i.e. very carefully)!

Since I got the ducting from HTG, I have already sent them an email which I am sure will make them either replace or refund the $8 of flawed ducting I got from them...

BUUUUT, obviously I can't live a week with shitty ducting so I dropped by my local hydro store (Like a 4 minute walk down the street in any direction around here lol) and picked up some new ducting.

This shit is far superior than the previous ducting. Much stronger and I can definitely tell a difference in my airflow. Now, when I have only my exhaust on and I close my tent, the sides suck in right away. Before, it took a couple minutes.

This is great news actually because now I will really never have to worry about my temps (which I didn't have to before anyways lol).


Now I am going to be paranoid about my ducting all the time lol.

Useless story, I know, but whatever.

PS. btw I got non-insulated ducting because of the 600% price difference LOL

Monster growth in 6 days.

A little closer...

This grow tent makes growing easy that I forgot to check them for a few days and it looks like a couple of the biggest got a little hungry. I hit them with another normal 15mL/gal dose of Grow nutes (which is primarily bat guano, sea bird guano, kelp seaweed, and steamed bone meal) and their first taste of Grandma's Best molasses at 15mL/gal also.

Oh and btw they are still all shooting out new pre-flowers at every inter-node of growth lololol

They just can't wait to produce for me.

In the mean time, I picked up another zipper of some Lavender Kush from a local indoor grower. Hopefully one day I can attain this level of bud from my grows.

I'm thinking 1-2 weeks more veg until the switch. Depends on what they look like next weekend. The tallest girl is 10" tall but obviously with this strain it's not about height, it's about girth. lol

Hey socachi thanks for checking out my grow!

I'm thinking that with my tent and it's ample vertical space limit, combined with the Purple Kush being 100% indica (and bushy as hell) I will skip topping/FIMMing for this grow.

I topped my plants during my last grow and loved it. I will continue to use the technique when/where I need it in the future.

Dude, El Diablo I can't recommend grow tents enough. Makes the grow process so easy!

As to growing in an apartment, yes it is very easy as long as you follow a few rules:

1) Have lived there for a bit (2 years here) or know someone who has.
2) Know the maintenance people a bit and their schedule (once a year filter checks here with a week notice in advance; that's it)
3) Spend the dough to keep your grow stealth (smell, light)
4) Just use common sense (obviously don't tell anyone, dispose of all grow material in the next town's dumpster, etc.)


You will be growing quality bud in no time!

So I had an idea the other day for some spare lamps and hardware I had in my closet and came up with this:
(5) 15w 2700K CFLs and (1) giant 68w 4100K CFL.

My original idea was to use (6) 68w 4100K CFLs but after about 5 seconds of thinking, I realized it would never work, as these effers get reeeal hot, mang. So I just went with the 15w CFLs and the one 68w on the end. It doesn't fuck with my bitchin' temps at all so I'm satisfied.

Well I sleep right next to my tent, if that's any indication.

If I close my door, you cannot hear the tent in the hall and definitely not next door. It would be impossible to hide, however, if my tent was on and someone was in my room lol.

There are always mufflers for your fans. But then you have to compensate with higher CFM, which probably means more money. It's a never ending story dude lol.
