Where is your turntable???

Seriously, how many of us still have them? Mines on a shelf in a closet. Kids have my amp and speakers. I've been MP3ing since I can remember. Maybe a dozen or so LPs in the closet and a couple of "45s" (not the gun, its in another closet) So as the old commercial goes, Its 1 am in the morning, do you know where your turntable is? (and who its been hanging out with.)

And now that I've thought about it, isn't turntable a strange name for something that rotates? And why "table"? Any one remember all 4 speeds............16, 33, 45 and (drum roll please.......) 78 RPM?

OK, I did just get off of work. Need to stuff a bud into the Dr. Grabow. Oops, the "lil woman" is way ahead of me, gosh I love my wife.

One more silly thought before my next "senior moment"
Why don't the words, comb, tomb, and bomb rhyme?

Meds are kickin in, I'll shut up now, memories aren't they Hank???

My Oracle is sitting right next to my Audio Research SP3A1 preamp vintage 1972 which is right above my Audio Research D90 tube amp vintage 1980 all hooked up to my Vandersteen 3C speakers! ..

mgk :whee:

I spent some bux on my last cartridge and I can't remember what it is. Anyone else clean their lps regularly? I kept the disc and covers in special sleeves too. If the inner sleeve was printed it was stored in the lp cover separately without the disc in it. Yes, for better or worse, I have been a music snob at times. I didn't mean to be it just sorta happened...............

My wife tried to toss it a decade ago, and I rescued it. Then my son used it at college, and when he was moving out, he was gonna toss it, and I rescued it. A year later he took it back, and when his broke at home he hooked it up, and is still using it.

Too many good times to just toss it.

My Marantz is hooked up to a old Sansui amp and runnig daily.

Back in the day I had a Marantz stereo, it was kick ass…I remember the tuning knob for the receiver was horizontal and the back light was blue…unique for that time. Turn tables had a pattern on them to adjust the speed, I can’t remember the term. I remember looking at “Dixie Hi-Fi” catalogs and dreaming about buying high dollar stuff like JBL speakers and reel to reel tape decks…

I remember Marantz, the light was a strobe light but I didn't know the pattern had a name. I've been trying to remember the lights name since this thread was started and it just hit me. My senior moments are turning into senior days.............geez

mine is sitting right next to me at my office, hooked up to a system and my soundcard. I started transferrring some of my vinyl, especially those that you cant get on cd, over to digital some years ago, its slow and I go months without messing with it. they have come out with a good bit of the stuff I couldnt find so its not as important now.

last week I ripped NeilYoung Time Fades Away.. still not digital
and Iggy Pop, zombie birdhouse.

Our Pioneer is hooked up to huge speakers in the basement. Hubs has a vinyl collection that spans 38 years. Something about LPs that sounds so damn good, and yesterday while going thru them,I found Alice Coopers first album called "Prettys for You" and most of my old Beatles ones. Anybody still have an old gigantic "stereo"? Looks like a big ass piece of furniture and still works great! And has that thick record changer for 45s. Remember 45s?

Mom and the old man had one big "stereo" with a turntable and radio with FM. WOW first time FM radio with stereo sound. Far out.

"AMEN" but mp3s may be around for a while. What really killed cds for me was the poorly done re-issues of old favorites. And it must be hard to stick a poster in a cd case I guess because I haven't seen it done. I only went to cds when Zappa stopped releasing LPs. So I only had a few when I dumped all of my musical gear. I only have 2 or 3 cds now. a dozen or so "collectible" LPs and 2 or 3 45s (Zappa promos) Got 1 that was autographed, Georgia Sattelites first lp.

Those were the days.................

I still have a"big stereo" w/8 track that stands upright and has a tv in it...no remote..dial knob 13 channels...it's in storage, but still works fine. I remember in about '66 we got a big stereo that was just the stereo. We got it for Christmas and it sat in the livingroom a few days before covered with blankets. I remember hoping it was a pool table...I was 5.

Had a nice Sansui high end turntable. One day I came home from work to find out my (future ex) wife had taken it to Salvation Army. I bought it in Germany when Germany was WEST Germany. It was a great turntable.
