UKIP are, by and large, old-school, hang-em-and-flog-em Tories.

No mention of drug policy at all in the bumf that comes through the door, but I can't see them being progressive in any way.

Agreed. From what I've seen they have pulled their manifesto straight from the pages of the Daily Mail. If they got into power a lot more cultivators are likely to get their doors kicked in and grow shops, head shops, seed merchants and forums like this would probably be banned.

Still, that's better than the BNP who would hang anyone involved in the supply of drugs, presumably that includes cultivators.:yoinks:

I seem to remember UKIP are quite liberal/libertarian on the drugs issue, but that's only a feeling right now. Can't think of any other reason to vote for them though...;)

I just had a quick look through their web site, they don't mention a drugs policy at all. To me that just says that they will adopt a policy of "business as usual".

They do have policies on

- getting rid of the CPS and leaving prosecutions in the hands of the local police.
- Zero tolerance for all crimes and longer and harsher sentences (they promise to double the number of people in prison).
- getting rid of the Human Rights Act
- three strikes and you're out, i.e. three convictions for anything (like cultivation or posession) and you'll be spending the rest of your life inside.

All of these bode badly for the rights of cannabis users.

They do support alcohol and tobacco, and get donations from these industries. This will put pressure on them to clamp down hard on any competition from cannabis.

Basically, they're probably the second worst party for cannabis users to vote for, coming just behind the BNP who would have us all dangling from the end of a rope.

Well, there's only one day left to decide. I'm probably going to vote LibDem, as they have a good chance of taking the seat in my area, and electoral reform and legal home-growing are probably good enough reasons for me at least, though there's plenty to more to consider apart from that, of course, and I would never recommend voting for a party on one issue alone.

But to anyone who's been appalled by the ridculous contortions of UK drug laws, and the flagrant abuse of the ACMD, and doesn't experience that much serious impact from any other shade of government policy, they may be worth a stab, depending where you live, of course. Here's hoping it's an interesting evening, whatever the result...;)

If you visit the lib-dem webpage there is a place you can leave messages to the party. They are currently asking people which laws they want scrapped/ changed. I've already left a comment saying I would like to see cannabis removed from the misuse of drugs act 1974. Can't do any harm for them to get a lot of those messages!!! We voted for some changes, now we want them!!!
