Would be interesting to know where and under which conditions this forest humus is extracted...

Ancient Forest is a rebranding of Jeff's Alaska Humus, with a few additives I believe....

Is that the 'Denali Gold' product as it's called in the retail marketplace?

So basically there's 2 people pulling material out of Alaska that I know of. Denali Gold is one guy (denaligold.us) and Jeff is the other (alaska humus). Bit of a history there that's not worth getting into in the forum (I can share more privately if you're interested).

We get our material from Tim (Denali Gold). I would love to work with Jeff, but his cost is significantly higher. I think Jeff does a much better job screening his material. I've had a couple of super sacks of Denali Gold in the past few years that I wasn't happy with in this regard. Last few sacks have been good though.

Jeff joined with Gen Hydro and Nickel City as distributors.

Haven't done a strict side by side comparison of their products, but both have certification and SFI testing. I use the Denali Gold as part of our compost mix (after amending it to increase bio-activity).

Hope that helps!

I'm getting a product identified as 'Alaska Humus' from EarthFort/SFI in Corvallis - should I assume that this is Jeff's version?

Thanks!

I'm almost positive it's Denali Gold as well. If it's not through Gen Hydro or Nickel City Wholesale, it's probably Denali Gold.

Oh and for the record, it's NOT true humus. You can identify plant material, including peat in both the Denali Gold and Alaska Humus. MM pointed it out to me first and I've seen it multiple times myself. He's even told Jeff, but I'm guessing it's more of a marketing thing at this point.

But, all that being said, it is a very consistent product and if you're not making your own compost, this would be a good place to look for a small amount for brewing teas.

I was given a bag of this as a sample to try with my grows. product...no chunks of material. I added it to a few of my girls. 25% of my normal mix.

So far I can't really tell if it's making a difference or not. But I can tell you it's a nice deep black product that if it does what it's supposed to do should be a perfect supplement to refresh used dirt.

Save the mycos for transplant/root dressing, it doesn't do much good in a tea.

Ah, you're right, forgot it was a mixed product. Yes, but at 10/oz I would be pretty stingy with it, though that's just my penny pinching opinion :) Initial viability and microbial growth in the tea are debateable, you'll still get the best mileage/successful innoculation from a root dressing. :2cents:

well I have my clones rooting in 20 oz cups. roots have been poking out the drain holes for about a week. I pulled one out and check it a couple days ago and it still looked like it could go another week. So when I transplant into there final 1-2gallon pots, ill dust the root ball with the great white.

Now I just don't know if I should mix some into the coco ill be filling my pots up with also.

As for the tea, figure id add it to my feeding once every 3 days or so. with my plant so small, I only feed less than a gallon every feed. im starting to feed like once every 2.5 days. so I should be ready to transplant in about a week and then I can start flowering shortly after that.
