Some quick thoughts on the draft:

1. Clausen not drafted in the first round? Surprising.

2. McClain to the Raiders at #8? Not a bad pick. Could have been a lot worse.

3. Top three (Bradford, Suh, McCoy) went as expected.

4. Bulaga falling to the Packers at #23 is an upset.

5. Pouncey to the Steelers at #18 was a solid pick.

6. Niners going Tackle/Guard with their two picks shows they're trying to shore up their OLine for the future.

7. Tebow to the Broncos at #25 was also an upset. Who thought he'd be the second QB taken, over Clausen and McCoy? Will he make it onto the field this year?

8. Dez Bryant falling to the Cowboys at #24 also a surprise, a pleasant one for Dallas fans.

Now the meat of the draft comes...

im ok with Ro mcClain.. yea it could have been worse..
pouncey to the steelers i think smart pick.. they couldnt run the ball for shit last yr.. Also what about the trade rumors that were floating about big ben roth...? i wonder if now he will pull a cutler and demand trade..
tebow to the broncos what were they thinking after just trading for quinn not that he is good but i bet he plays alot better over in denver.. maaaaybe not.. also agree on the clausen situation he is frankly not that good imho... he will go along with mcoy tomorrow pretty quickly i think... Lets see what the next rds thru 6 bring the chess game begins.. peace n pufs..

The Big 12 really showed their talent this year, making up 5 of the first 6 picks and 9 total in the first round.
A couple days ago the rumor was that the Steelers wanted a top ten pick for Roethlisberger, and everyone thought the Raiders, at #8, should jump at the opportunity to land an under-30 QB with two rings on his resume. Now it's looking like that talk was premature, and maybe the Steelers weren't really serious about trading their franchise QB. Smart move, because players like that don't come by very often...
McClain was coveted by Giants fans, whose team gave up 40+ points several times last year. I thought the Raiders needed more help on O than on D. I suppose Kirk Morrison is the odd man out; he might be traded today for a third round (or lower) pick if they can get it.
Clausen is still on the board, will he fall to the Raiders with the seventh pick in the second round (#39 overall) or to the Chiefs at #36 overall?

Rounds 2 and 3 in the books.
Clausen fell to #48 overall, to Carolina. Raiders, Bills, Bucs, Vikings and Browns could have had him.
I'm iffy on Clausen. I dont think he puts a whole lot of zip on the ball, but neither does Tom Brady, and he's a pretty decent QB.

Colt McCoy falls to the Browns in the third round, at #85 overall. He could be a player. The Bears could have had him. They better hope Cutler never gets injured.

Bears first pick was a third rounder; they drafted Major Wright, Florida safety, #75 overall. He started for a big time program, played in a big time conference and made some big time plays. He could be good, a playmaker at safety that we havent had since Mike Brown had two healthy knees.

Taylor Mays, USC safety, who some thought would be a sure fire first rounder, fell to the Niners in the second round, #49 overall. Tons of athleticism, just uncertainty as to whether he's actually playmaker.

Toby Gerhart, the Great White Running Back, went to the Vikes in the second round. I actually wouldnt be surprised if he became a 1200 yard rushed in the NFL. Behind a power line, he can find running lanes and make yards after contact.

Rounds 4-7 next. Lots of players with potential left.

Another NFL draft in the books.
I like the Bears first pick, the third round, Major Wright from FL. But I dont understand why they didnt go for OL help in the later rounds. Maybe they think they can pick up linemen through free agency (including undrafted players). Lot of quality starters on Olines throughout the league were undrafted.
Or maybe they feel another year together and the blocking unit will gel better. Whatever.
They drafted QB Dan Lefevour from Central Michigan. Very productive player in college, he's a dark horse to be one in the NFL.
Time will tell if the Bears are a better team because of this draft. I'm not so sure, and the Bears have had more than their fair share of draft misses...

EDIT: I forgot that the Bears picked some Div II Offensive Tackle in the 7th round. Supposed to have good size but who knows if he can play or not.
If he winds up being a perennial Pro Bowler I'll eat my words.

I am very happy with the Boys draft this year, Jerry Jones usually pisses me off during the draft but I was extremely happy he decided to move up for Bryant. This really gonna give the boys another great game changer like with miles austin and felix jones. Also Sean Lee is 1st rd talent everyone was just worried about his previous knee injuries, Penn state LB's are usually productive NFL player and I expected nothing less from him. Also I like the Same Young pick he was a huge prospect coming out of High School, but just never blossomed into greatness at ND. I think he has a lot of potential tho especially being coached by Wiess.

baba, don't be too upset about the lack of picks IMO they were well worth is for Cutler. Major Wright was a great pick up for them too!

I would only be mildly surprised if Dez Bryant had a 1000+ yard, 8+ TD season this year. With Miles Austin on the other side and Roy Williams working the slot, plus the ever dangerous Witten, the sky's the limit for the Dallas aerial attack.

Thanks for the kind words, Ottoman. When it comes to the Bears, I hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Which most sports fans probably do when wondering about their team's prospects...

I'm surprised Sack hasnt chimed in about the Raiders draft, which actually went very well, so well that maybe Al Davis was asleep during those three days.
Does the addition of Jason Campbell, a very capable QB who takes good care of the ball in the red zone, spell the end for Jamarcus Russell's disastrous tenure in Oakland? Does Campbell lead the Raiders to .500 or better this season? Time will tell...

Baba, I couldn't agree more man, Oakland had a draft where nothing was that shocking, I bet Al let someone else take over after terrible drafts the past few years, at the sametime whoever drafted kept Al happy by taking speedy freaks later in the draft with Bruce Campbell and Jacoby Ford in the 4th. Nice to see them take 2 solid defensive picks with their first 2 picks, LB and DL both players will start and be good McClain has the chance to become an All-Pro i think. Also getting the two Tackles developmental picks but could pay off big time down the road.

heavy dank nugg

Im happy with the humongus center that pitt....took like 6 7 325......
faneca a free agent hmmmmmmmmmmm......
another 3 line backers this draft thats like 8 in 3 drafts........I dont like this pattern by tomlin......

1st round recievers are hit or miss........Bryant could likely be a bust.........
Cambell has all ready improved the Raiders......what do they do with the dead weight?

Are you talking about Maurkice Pouncey? I think he's listed at 6'4" and 305. He's got a twin brother who's staying at FL for another year and might actually be a first rounder himself when he comes out...
But Maurkice was a good pick, everyone had him tagged as going to the Steelers. Every scout thought he was one of the most pro-ready prospects out there, someone who's going to be a ten-year starter at the G/C spots...

A lot of Bears fans think Chicago should sign Faneca. If we can get him for a decent price, 4mil or less per, I think he could be a good pickup. He's no spring chicken himself but I think he's an upgrade at OG over what we have now...

Too many LB picks for the Steelers? They run a 3-4 so they do carry a lot of LB's on the roster, don't they? They're trying to find the next Harrison, who, incidentally, wasnt even drafted when he came out of college...

Faneca is in a good spot if you ask me, he still gets paid by the jets in the 5 million range, plus you know someone is gonna want him so he will still get paid well and choose where he wants to go. Rex Ryan is crazy if he thinks he is gonna start that rookie at G and think he'll be just as good as Faneca. The Jets are going to be an interesting team this year. They're gonna either be really good no distractions or terrible and nothing but bad press; I don't know what to expect.

Also I happen to think that the Cheifs got two studs with their first two picks, Eric Berry is a stud with the potential to be special. Dexter McCluster was so much fun to watch during college, I like to bet on college football and watched a lot of him this year and let me say I don't care about his size he could be a another Chris Johnson. He is fast can run up the middle or side to side and has hands like a WR; him and Jamaal Charles will be a dangerous combo this year.

my prayers have been answered!!!!! thank you lord~!!!! J russell one of the biggest flops thus far... He might just disapear i too think AL rigamortis Davis was asleep for those three days.. :D I think we picked up some solid young men.. and i think they will all have some type of impact soon.. Mclain i to think has a chance to be all pro... Lets see what campbell brings to the table he doesnt make the big mistakes down inside the red zone..I hope he got all the mistake making out of his system.. I also saw charlie frye was back on the roster along with gradjkowski.. I hope Mcfadden comes in healthy and ready.. We could actually make it to 500 maybe even a game over.. Lets see.. bbl peace n pufs..
