Agreed meds, I voted for Paul and have donated to Rand's campaign as well.

Thomas Jefferson would shoot himself in the head if he saw what has become of our country.

This is very old news, been that way since the 80's. AZ laws are written so that a AZ sheriff or cop needs to say "I suspect" something is wrong, "I suspect you are drinking and driving.
Now you are subject to search and seizure. and it is legal.
AZ sucks big time, I lived there for over 20yrs.
Move to Heber/Overgaard or Show Low to grow!!! much safer than the Valley. Plus rent/utilities are cheaper up in the hills.

On many occasions I have written an email to Governors offices letting them know why I was not bringing my family and money to their state..and then explain about the corrupt cops and violations of rights, and howI fear being an innocent victim of police misconduct. It helps to name a specific area or highway and be polite always.

Maybe it won't help but maybe it will..and I feel good for trying.

On a few occasions I have written directly to chambers of commerce in towns...they are made up of the business owners and they care a LOT about tourist flow and ways to make more people come to their areas...and if responsible cannabis users intelligently express to them the fact thqat you would LOVE to come and spend money there, but because of the nasty and mean old cops who harrass smokers, you must go where the atmosphere is more friendly.

We have to use evevy tool in the arsenal to insure victory, and if we all did a few of these things, it would make a difference.

Timothy McVeigh

True that. But don't let history be re-written. McVeigh was a result of the heavy hand of the US government under clinton/reno.

Remember the Waco Massacre. Or the BS at Ruby Ridge. clinton is running around blaming the Tea Party when the truth of the matter is that Oklahoma falls squarely on his shoulders.

Aside from that, I'd say the score is Islamists 20, Homegrown 1. Let's double check the rag heads, beards or not.

You talking about the illegal immigration problem, the entitlement society or growing taxes and government Lazy?

Me thinks Jefferson would be more disgusted with the size, scope, tax burdens, intrusion into daily life and inefficiencies of our lying POS government.

Pulling over mexicans would be at the bottom of his list.... if you truly have read and studied Jefferson.

I used to live with a family member in an expensive area, I didn't look like I belonged nor did I care. I got pulled over in my beater truck over 15 times on the one main road and WITHOUT doing a damn thing wrong each and every time. I never got arrested, ticketed BUT I sure as hell got hassled.

And this didn't outrage you! When we all acknowledge things are wrong but dont act on it we are setting the new standard, and now your post makes it sound like "oh well, my rights got raped 15 times..but golly whatch gonna do?" you accept it.

Right now in New York it looks like only people that are not white smoke pot. Arizonas law is just a way to bypass that pesky document we founded our country on.

The Arizona Law lets allot of frustrated citizens feel good about something... (stickin' it to them damn Mexicans) What a waste of effort and energy that could be directed in some way to actually help. I would advise not getting a tan if you live in AZ.

If in the Jails there is 24x7x365 supervision, shakedowns of everybody's "house" happens at any time... all coming and going goes through checkpoints and the inmates are told how and when they can take care of themselves yet law and order cant be maintained.

Drugs, weapons and violent crime are all issues in there... Why in the world do we think if we lock down the public, give police total control and take away all expectations of privacy the bad people will be controlled?
In this environment a person can get drugs, weapons and rape is a common issue, gangs run the show.

We are trying to do the same in our society one step at a time and we will get the same results...we already are and we beg for more.

The punchline is that the next elected govt is going to fix it.
Has any administration ever cut govt? Government is the only thing standing between us and some really nasty businesses that I cant vote out or do anything about.

The problem is the govt is like the guards in jail... the gangs call the shots and they just jump. Do you think Big Pharma/ Big Food/ Big war companies are like gangs? I do.

We are fools to believe or have any faith in them at all. This law just proves it.

The only way were ever going to get our rights back is if we fight for it their never going to just give our rights back to us because we complain or write to our useless congressman the only way things will change is if we have the guts to stand up physically fight for our rights I am so tired of the government telling us that to be safe we must give up our rights of freedom. Time for the 2nd civil war in the USA!

Yea, I lived in AZ for a while as well. It was like a prolonged airport layover on my way to Cali. Unfortunately, seems Arizona's got a history of neo fascist legislative tendencies. Too bad, it's really a beautiful state in many ways.

For all you East Coasters, AZ is like the early 60's, deep South of the West Coast lol

I thought there was some hope for a while with Napolitano (she kept rejecting this piece of legislation), but where'd it go?

What was it that HST said about AZ? Something to the effect of "...AZ is like the turkey that shows up to your cocktail party, already drunk and wearing a green suit with white vinyl shoes..." Something like that lol...Anybody recall that line?

In my mind, the problem is not with enforcing illegal immigration laws and empowering local authorities to do so, but a problem of how this translates into practice. Are you really going to give the jack booted Arpaio foot soldiers the latitude to racially profile folks -- that is to detain people (at Sheriffs posy's sole discretion) primarily for having a certain "suspect" skin color? Seems to me that AZ is instituting a policy that enables/facilitates civil rights abuse. Has anybody here had the misfortune to be at the mercy of an idiotic, back-country jack booted foot soldier? As Sam pointed out, this has very scary ramifications for everybody.

OK - then I guess everything is fair and balanced.

My bad.

Drove down to mexico once with a mexican dishwasher who worked in San Diego but lived in Mexico. Cop pulled him over and asked where he got the microwave oven in the back seat. He ended up taking it.

Next time, my cousing and I are down in Tijuana in his car. As were driving down the street looking for the way back to the border, we get to the end of a dead end dirt road, turn around
and get pulled over.

The two cops who spoke perfect english told my cousin he ran over the curb and then went the wrong way down a one way street. This was a dirt road, no signs, no curb. And they also said the fine would be $40. We had about $30 in cash. After making us search through the car, pulling the back seat, we found a dollar more in change. They took that as being enough of a fine and let us go.

Another time, a friend of my dads is down there riding his motorcycle. He crashed the motorcycle, no other vehicles involved. Turns out, its "illegal" to have an accident, (or at least it was in the 80s). They took him to jail where he spent about a week before his family was able to bribe enough officials to get him out. Also, he had a broken leg the whole time.

I thought it was found illegal in federal court to force USA citizens to show ID with a random stop. The Arizona law should be found unconstitutional if challenged in federal court. Until then it is legal in Arizona for any cop to discriminate against anyone that looks like just maybe they just sneaked across the border. Half of LA's population would fit that bill, more then 4 million people.....
WTF???

I must be the only right wing out here.

I say good. My taxes pay for them to be here illegal in a round about way.....What do I get in return? higher unemployment rates, Higher insurance premiums, and generally less funding than most states nationwide per ACTUAL person.... I carry my ID every where I go...Its not a fucking difficult task for Christ Fucking sakes....its not like we are asking you too much now out of the legal ones. Not much different. Just like passport in other countries. and the drug smuggling too......Borders are there for a reason. Times are getting tougher all over deal with it....Its capitalism.

AZ does have some retarded stupid laws...and neglects some good thing that should be done...but thats a whole different thing.

What I'm seeing is knee jerk self loathing in this thread. "USA is evil!" We're BAD!!

No one will like us!!!!!

Yet the same who complain about that have no idea just how "FASCIST" the mexican immigration laws are. Or they selectively omit that fact. One or the other.

In a nutshell, this is mexico. And when they fix this they *might* have a small reason to complain. But they won't so they don't:

Mexican Immigration Policy

Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:

Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress." (Article 32)

Immigration officials must "ensure" that "immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents. (Article 34)

Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy." (Article 37)

The Secretary of Governance may "suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest." (Article 38)

Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:
Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request, i.e., to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants. (Article 73)

A National Population Registry keeps track of "every single individual who comprises the population of the country," and verifies each individual's identity. (Articles 85 and 86)

A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants (Article 87), and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number (Article 91).

Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned:
Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned. (Article 116)

Foreigners who sign government documents "with a signature that is false or different from that which he normally uses" are subject to fine and imprisonment. (Article 116)

Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons:
Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished. (Article 117)

Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. (Article 118)

Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison (Articles 119, 120 and 121).

Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico -- such as working with out a permit -- can also be imprisoned.

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says,
"A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally." (Article 123)

Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125)

Foreigners who "attempt against national sovereignty or security" will be deported. (Article 126)
Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law:
A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127)

Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132)

So let me understand, USA policies should be no higher or better then Mexico's?
I for one know what the police can do to the common man in Mexico, if hkush thinks this is the path to follow for our police, or to follow bad Mexican immigration laws, as a way to get even, what can I say? All immigration laws everywhere need to be changed that treat people as criminals with less rights then citizens of whatever country passes such racist laws.

First they came for the Rag heads,
Then they came for the Mexicans,
Then they came for my Neighbors,
Be they Jews, Blacks, Gays, Whatever,
And finally they came for Me.

So, you can bury your head in the sand and ignore the facts, but facts are facts, and if 95% of the problem comes from one easily identifiable group, then it is stupid to ignore that fact. About as stupid as searching granny at the airport while the guy with the rag on his head breezes right through security.
Wow.

You must be first in line for chief of the new gestapo, eh?
