Greetings. I would like to propose a jiffy challenge! In fact, I can't believe there hasn't been one already.

DSCF4716.JPG

Proposed Rules:

  • Must be just a standard jiffy7 size whatever that is. Peat or coco jiffies are okay.
  • No powered devices like air pumps for dwc.
  • No extra or other medium.
  • Sitting in a tray with water or nutes is fine.
  • No restrictions on wattage, cab size, or veg/flowering time.
  • Fun must be had.
  • Experience must be gained.
  • Must possess scales that go in 0.1 gram increments! (j/k)

Sign up here! I should have a fresh clone rooted in a week or two if anyone is down for a friendly ass kickin'. :tiphat:

Are you talking about a complete grow in the Jiffy pellets? :p

I'm not saying that I'm in for the challenge due to space restriction but it is very interesting!!!

Good luck to all!

Of course a complete grow, lol, unless you prefer smoking leaf. :tiphat:

Damn, you must be mini macro micro if you can't squeeze in a jiffy! Heheh. Hope someone can enter!

Wait a minute. Why haven't I found this thread before? I'm pretty sure I want to take part in this Jiffy Challenge. I'm going to get a clone and join in on this.

So you're saying, grow the thing in the Jiffy, flower and all? No transplants or soil, just straight up Jiffy, right?

lol wait, let me check the rules...

*flips to page 378*

Yup, that's it exactly! :D

You will probably need a container to sit it in and fill up with nutes if you don't want to water 30 times a day. I fill that thing once every day. You may not want to let it grow against the lights like I have, too.:

Lol, is that what's goin' on with that thing? Sucks! I'm going to get a cutting today from my friend. Maybe he'll give me a Headband clone! Hahaha. I'm in. I'll have pictures soon.

I'm down for this, I'm in the middle of a chemical warfare attack on my grow cabs, but once that is sorted out, I'll be running a Dynamite X Princess Diesel f2 in my jiffy7. Let's have some fun and see who can get what out of a jiffy7 run thru flower. This shall be interesting to say the least.

Peace an Respects

Hey bro this is a jiffy7, they are used for sprouting seeds, I swear by them, but not everyone likes them. The pic shows dry ones and ones that have been soaked in water:-

Are you proposing to do the entire growth cycle in a jiffy pellet and nothing else?

Interesting, might be able to spare one.

I like B. Friendly's idea, the more you open it up, the more creative you can get. Someone should try stacking a few jiffys at different heights.

I like that idea, but I think there's something fun about simple. It seems like a good challenge to see who can get what out of a measly Jiffy. I dunno, just my two cents!

OK, I'm up for it, one clone in a jiffy pellet, roots busting out.

I've got it sitting in a beer glass on the tray of another SOG run I just started

The clones in the SOG tray are going straight on to 12/12, EC 1.5 under a 600W HPS, so is The Jiffy Challenge contender.

Will it live, fucked if I know, guess I'll have to hand water it, while the others have the luxury of ebb/flow.

Let's see what happens.

Awesome guys. Thanks for playing - I'm about 16 days into 12/12 right now. If you want, you can use whatever I guess - I've never seen a rapid rooter. It just seems like jiffy is a nice standard thing that a lot of people use and you can find them anywhere. I think it would be unfair to allow other ways because well, I would just use the jiffy as a crude netpot, and you could grow it in a 20 litre bucket and get normal-ish plant yields. High Country could simply bury them in his hydroton and grow them normally. Where's the fun or challenge in that? If you stack several, what's the point? The point to me is that it's a standardised, and very restricted way to grow.

In the beer cup challenge for example, wouldn't you get pissed if someone came along and just used the beer cup as a net pot? Or stacked several cups on top of each other?? Or sunk the beer cup into a larger pot? Don't you think that would be missing the point? :dunno:

OK, I've been re-thinking this. I don't want the roots exposed to light, especially a 600W HPS.

So I've moved the Jiffy pellet into a different glass and in to a beer stubby holder (it's an Australian thing, common here) hopefully this will block out light to the roots.

I've also put a bit of black plastic around the top to stop light getting in.

I am hand watering, it is not in the ebb/flow set up.

I am going for !/2 oz to 1 oz. This shit I grow is ready in 6 weeks, indica dominant.

I'm getting quite excited about this thread.

COVER THOSE ROOTS, DON'T LET THE LIGHT GET IN

I've just given the poor little thing a feed of bloom nutes at 1.5 EC, mind you there is no drainage in this glass so I will have to watch out for that.

Awesome! Go Warnie! I think that's a good idea to cover roots - I should probably do that. I found with mine it wasn't too hard to judge how much water needed to be in there for it to last to the next day, so it still gets a good wet/dry cycle if you want it to. Mine did dry right out a couple of times though so I overdo it now, if anything. I also bubble the nutes well and add a decent dose of h2o2 to hopefully keep it oxygenated enough. Mine has got up to 1.8 EC on occasion! That thread on the coco forum about high ECs really opened my eyes.

I'm using the bloom nutes from the res for the ebb/flow tray. I have 2 air stones in it so it is highly oxygenated. Let's hope more people who have spare clones try this, just for fun.

Some people take the growing of this plant way to seriously.

See, you guys already are one up on me. I don't have any airstones to make my water bubbly. Lol. I'll just use nutes and see where it goes, I guess. I'm trying to come up on a clone from my friend. If he doesn't give me one, maybe I'll Monster Crop one of my Bubba Gums. Then again, I don't wanna loose any yield from those small plants. What evs. I'll think of something! I'll try to get a clone today.
