Trippin' into the Congo....

Y

Yankee Grower

I had some Congo beans awhile back and gifted them to a friend to work with. This strain always seemed like there is something special in there some place.

O....we're rollin' on here peeps....I'll post an update with pix sometime this week....Congo looks to dominate the Elephant cross...pretty uniform plants.

I'm all high so....here's the update....as it goes

I'm all high so....here's the update....as it goes

Yes it is true...I'm findin' the E-Heads to be fairly uniform.....and somethin' about the leaf structure...reminds me of the Congo momma I used. They grow the same way she did....not that fast from seed....they are just steady....no big growth spirts.

Here's the 1st declared females....upcanned into 5" sqs of coco...

I've culled a few males and have kept a couple as well....the next pix is of the 4 nondeclares....some seem male to me...we'll see...but I've had a good look at males in this litter....

These leaves are what remind me of the Congo momma....I'm not sure why exactly....but they just do.....so there.

Typical Elephant on the left....biggest Porpoise on the right(1wk apart in age).......

Now the Porpoise Heads.....(Excludin' the tall P-Head plant pictured above)....here is a mo' a typical size range....the partial mutant seedlin'... far right... is still the smallest.....they are startin' to go full blown veg though...so pickin' up the pace....it's very tight fer space but I just made mo' room....

The mutant....that is growin' out just fine....I really like this one....different from the rest.....should mention that the P-Heads are showin' variation...non-uniform.....but anyways I've stashed this particular plant off to the side....she(it) is slower but looks interestin' to me....

Pretty basic veggin' period....just kinda on the back burner fer now...I expect no problems....and have high expectations to meet...but fer now....I'll just sail along and keep a watchful eye fer the shiners.

Thanx go out from me....to all of ya followin' along.....peace

1st Elephant Head females upcanned....

1st Elephant Head females upcanned....

.....think I have a total of 5 E-Head females....these were the first to be transplanted into 1.7gal flower sqs.....so a wk or 2 away from flower...........not fast.....just steady....not the best root systems...but very healthy...........

Relations....MMB on the left....Porpoise Head on the right....MMB is the momma of P-Head....upcanned both into flower sqs....I'll run them side by side.........

I killed all my E-Head and P-Head project males.....I had to make a priority list due to a busy real world schedule. Since this is my own work....and I haven't seen either cross flowered....and have plenty mo' beans....this has turned into a scoutin' run (though I already know n my heart.....that these will meet my expectations).......so no incross will happen....just flowers. I expect good thingys....none the less.

In the darkest jungle....there can be light

In the darkest jungle....there can be light

My studio consists....mostly....of heavy sativa hybrids....one can't see through from one side to the other....a twisted mesh of snakin' branches and openin' flowers....certainly will block yer view.

2 phenos of Elephant Head are presentin' themselves at just 32daze flower. On the left....a mo' Cindy Jones leaner....on the right....a definite Congo pheno.

Note that plants must be kept at 4ft tall....so much trainin'.....the use of zip ties make thingys a great deal easier....I literally must fold plants on top of themselves and tie them down...I also mirror branches into flower clusters....like an arrangement....all sorts of tricks do I pull on my girls. This is the Cindy Jones leaner(speculation of course...never had a female Cindy Jones....but mo' than a few Casey and C99....this looks Casey like to me)....ya can see the work bein' put in to keep her under....nice smelly flowers...sweet....

Here's the Congo pheno top....she has just had her zip tie removed after bein' trained fer a couple wks in this pose....just 32 daze flower...fillin' and blastin'.....I'm hittin' all my plants at close range with movin' 600s.....blastin' lumens just inches away....no air cool....no glass...straight bulb. Fire fer effect......
....O I should mention they are also kept in a stiff breeze...fans blow them at all times....I consider my enviro....Highland....alpine...side of a steep mnt.....so lots of wind....some clouds...and lots of penetratin' lumens....some light angle...low RH......

The same Cindy Jones pheno on the left and a Cindy Jones leanin' Porpoise Head on the right (at day 39)......they look almost identical....why I say I can see the influence of my stud Cindy Jones male. I'm very happy with his work so far.

.....I think I'm goin' to find that my male is goin' to play well in these crosses...in my mind I see Congo as a powerful match up (as in...I can feel the mojo there...I do not ever ignore the little selection voices in my head...the judges..little wizards they can be)...and I already know that the Highland Mex played well with Casey Jones(in the MMB cross).....my hopes of the male (Cindy Jones) pullin' these into common waters...is comin' to fruit. I feel blessed at this point....as I'm growin' well and in good health.... the flowers bein' produced are blowin' my mind.

Awesome to see all your training coming into fruition. :good:

It certainly appears there's a good reason to having your mind blown, they look outstanding! Especially seeing they're under 1/2 way being done! :yoinks: Tremendous job! :respect:

.....If ya can't....then don't.....I can....so I will...

.....If ya can't....then don't.....I can....so I will...

....give y'all a little update on where I am with the 1st batch of Elephant Heads.....and the things I'm learnin' about this pretty basic cross between a couple F1s.......

All shown subject plants are between 41-50daze flower.....not topped....very fast growers once put into flower.....very Congo in nature....aromas are indeed a sweeter smellin' Congo......structure mostly dominated by Ace's Congo.....yet I doubt if any of these will go 65daze.....all have already been girdled and are in the flushin' stage of life......
https://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?
albumid=15693&pictureid=425875&thumb=1

I've found a few nanners on 3 of the 4.....and have seen a few beans developin'....strange because no other plants in the flower studio show any indications of rouge pollen....just a few beans on a couple of the E-Heads....as far as the nanners poppin' out (again..not many and easily seen)...let me explain somethings about that....

1. I flux my PH......5.6-6.0 in coco
2. I skim uncooled(no glass) 600s on movers...just over their canopy.....and bend/tie/crush/curse......whatever it takes....to keep them outta the lights
3. They are girdled heavily when they start flush....I mean to their very centers in some cases
4. They live in a very crowed space....where they must fight fer their light.....and even then....they don't get direct light all the time...partially shaded...due to lights comin' and goin'

My plants get tested tough.....I expect a few nanners here and there....and that doesn't freak me out...at all.

Here's a closer look at my pick of the litter....41daze...no nanners...I see the Cindy Jones male influence mo' here than in the others.....this is a very pretty girl...when I make the F2 generation...this is one of the phenos I'll be lookin' fer...

Ya have to excuse the pix....it's difficult fer me to get good shots of these....I'm in the process of upgradin' this area of my threads....but fer now....these will have to do. I just got a new lap top...new system....and I'm not very good with this kind of stuff anyways....tryin' to figure it out...so hang with me please....I have patience with plants....not so much with machines.

*Notes:

I'm currently runnin' a couple other crosses usin' the same Cindy Jones male

Odessa......Casey Jones X Cindy Jones
Joy Division....Killer Chemdog X Cindy Jones
....and of course Porpoise Head

I want to see the influence of that particular male in other crosses....but he seems to match up well with everythin' he comes in contact with....I believe he is responsible fer bringin' down flower Xs and fer certain structures that have been showin' through.

I can show ya the Porpoise Heads....which will not finish quite as fast as the E-Heads....but are very stable/sweet smellin' sativas...and like their Highland Mex family.....rather difficult plants to control.....mo' so than the E-Heads.....the Cindy Jones pops has worked out very well in that cross.

I'll finish these thingys up....pretty soon....my sativas get at least a 10day flush....prefer 2wks or longer dependin' on the subject.....kill them on the vine so to speak....here is where the girdle seems to help knock down some time....when the girdle gets cut in....H2O only....some plants freak a little bit with twisted leaves or a small burst of nanners....probably the case with these plants....I've not seen a nanner since just a few days after the cuts...and they still drink just fine. Pretty routine reactions.

Congo dominate phenos of Elephant Head...dry flowers

Congo dominate phenos of Elephant Head...dry flowers

....chopped in their 50's...two Congo dom females. I have still another Congo dom female that is flushing....at 59daze.....much like her sisters. I found a bunch of immature seeds in many of the flowers when I was trimming....so yup the nanners were viable...and a few popped. There were small clusters....indicating.. to me.. that it was isolated inter sex. Most flowers were unmolested.

This is bud that needed a couple days in the jar to bring out flav...off the vine there was a woody kind of taste....but I smoked some just moments ago (been in a jar for maybe 5 days tops)...and the flav has transformed into chewing gum sweet....very much like the momma plant.

The high....even when it was still in woody mode....outstanding. Very heady....potent....stops you in your tracks for a moment. Love the high....it has plenty of kick.

....These plants are ok.....but not what I was looking for. The sister I have selected as my pick is just about done...in her 50s...and she seems like she will blow her sisters out of the water. I've posted her in my thread over at H3ad's place.....and I'll post her up again (showed her in my last post) here when she is harvested in the next few days. She looks crazy good....sticky dense....smelly as hell.....and no inter sex traits...even though she is being heavily abused in flush.

Took me only 4 plants to find her. She has the structure, resin production, stench, and a super quick finish X.....I have no reason to even think that she will be anything short of a fruity/sweet/fuel finished flower. Looking forward to her harvest.....she has a lot of expectation to meet....but I'm feeling real good about her chances.

Pick of the litter...Harvest at day 54....

Pick of the litter...Harvest at day 54....

Chopped her this morning. Quick finisher.....can't explain the quick finishes....but none went past 61daze flower. I'll speculate that the Cindy Jones male is responsible....as a few of his other outcrosses are being worked...I'll see if those quick finishes hold true.

She....is all goodness...I much prefer her over the three other sisters.

This is the last Congo dominant sister....harvested today at 61daze...this one was my least favorite out of the bunch. Airy flowers...put out more nanners than the others....just a dirty little whore....nothing much good to say...except she is out of my way.

Well that ends this run.....I'll sample this cross over the next few months and decide if I want to go back in....at least 1 in 4 should be somewhere in the ball park.....not too difficult to find the CJ influenced plants I'm thinking.....and I believe that's what must be done....select for the Cindy Jones dominants then incross for the F2 generation.

Congrats The Pablos! ;)

After the smoking tests ..... How did the congolese contribute to the hybrid ??

T

THE PABLOS

Dubi....I've smoked sample from all the phenos....they are all similar in flavor. The Congo blends well with the CJ male I used....still has the Congo sweet/chewing gum taste....but below the surface there is a rotten fruit flavor. It's very good....I gave out some samples to friends....all were happy.

The plant that I said I didn't much care for....the most airy plant...may actually be the best tasting one ironically. I set aside flowers from all subjects....give them a nice cure and reassess. When you pop the jar top.....the powerful aromas hit you pretty hard.....so very stinky weed.

Excellent up and clear headed high....all samples...are exceptional smoke.

I did run into intersex traits....but as I posted earlier....the choice pheno was a denser flower plant....with no intersex traits. I'll do another batch of this cross....later this fall...and see if I can find something like that choice one I found this round.

I like outcrossing to the Congo...they do take extra attention...but they are definitely different and that's what I'm most interested in.....finding different plants.

I'll keep working Congo/Congo Hybrids....thanks for the genetics and the forum space. I'll be back.
