205w LED vs 400w HID Let the battle begin!

honestly i dont think it really makes that big of difference. its all just a power consumption issue.(1k hps is more powerful than a 205 w led and will always be) i vegged for the first 3 weeks under 2 126 watt penetrators from ledgirls website and i was 100% satisfied with the results. i then switched lighting systems and continued to veg. i switched to a 1k lumatek on a flipswitch with 2 reflectors in the same room, acting kind of like a lazy mans light mover (light flips every 2 hours on 18/6) with 1 mh and 1 hps in the reflectors. They shot up like crazy when the hid hit them and there stems god really thick fast. Bottom line is Led penetrators can veg like champs (100% fact)(especially for the watt ratio) but so can a 1k or 600 watt hid.
Leds are a good way to save $ on electricity plus they look fuckin sweet

keep up the good work blaze, and imo the 1 yr old bulb isnt a big deal. considering if it was left on for 1 year 24/7 it would put its life at 8,448 hours max. considering most are rated to 12,000 as mentioned early and also the fact that its unlikely it was left on 24/7 for the full year. feel me? LEDs are just legit.

It's been 4 days since I installed the new bulb, I guess it we will find out if it was the old bulb or not here in a little bit, I am about to go snap some pics of the babies.

Until next time!

where's those pics at?.....:smokey:

Umm look down one post

Largest from the LED side on the LEFT largest from HID side on the RIGHT!

These leds make for great veg lights. These urkles are so tight noded I cant see the main stalk at all. The growth rate is exellent so far.

The HID side seems to be taking off this past 4 days and appears the old bulb was indeed a problem. Everything is looking good, Until next time be safe and take care!

wow i've heard LED is good for veg but i wasnt expecting this. now all we need is some bomb buds... how much longer are you going to veg?

I agree with wmp though, when you start to flower maybe you should swap two of the LED plants for two of the HID plants in case the old bulb did stunt their growth. at least then you could compare bud density/yield in a side by side test of two same sized plants flowered under different lights. thats just my opinion. either way im most intersted to see how the LED does, and its already proving to be pretty impressive in the veg, ill stick around to watch them flower. cool grow, thanks for taking time to do a well documented experiment for the icmag community, its well appreciated.

peace

im my mind i instantly think vertical circual growth and perhaps a few rows(stadium) if need be, from there i think what light could i use , its always hids. my point being that theese ufos dont do circular style grows at all, its not possible yet, so id say the 200 is nowhere near a 400 run vertical of which id expect over a pound from, its more in line with a 150 hps/175 mh imo.

Then perhaps you should consider our vertical light for your own garden. See what 504W of LED does against your 400W HPS, after all they draw almost EXACTLY the same amount of power from the wall... Estimated Release Date: 3 weeks. It will be the world's first, and brought to you only by Hydro-Grow!

LEDGirl...first of all I am impressed with this test your lights appear to be beating my expectations by a bunch (probably did not surprise you though).

Anyways, one question, what about canopy coverage. Say I am vegging on a 4x8 table. What would you recommend for coverage and what would that cost? I currently use a couple of 600 watters on a light mover.

Blaze...hope you do not consider this a jack. If you do just say and I will edit it away. Very interesting thread...thank you for opening my eyes.

No worries I do not get pissy over posting to my threads...

We have the utmost confidence in our products as they are based 100% on science and we spent years developing them. It's been a hard battle proving to people their efficiency, but I'm glad we were able to get units out to people like Blaze, Hazy, Verdant and others, who are doing a great job of showing what they can do.

So let me ask you this, is your goal to match your current yield with HID, or is it to run the same sized space, same # of plants, and increase your overall yield? If these grow tests are showing at least one thing, it's that our LED lights are at minimum twice as efficient as HID lighting, so if you're currently running say (2) 600W HID's you'd only need about 600W of our LED to keep your yields the same. I would recommend (3) 205W units which would cover a maximum area of 7.5' x 2.5', or (4) 205W units over a max size of 5' x 5'. Needless to say since you don't need as much wattage as HID to get the same results, you also don't need as much area either, as a lot of HID users tend to "over-extend" in my opinion, the lighting area of their lights. If you goal is to cover the entire 4' x 8' area, then I would use (8) 205W units which would draw approximately 1500W and also produce at least double the yield of your current HID setup. The cost for 8 is $5200 shipped.

Any difference in light penetration between HID and LED from top of canopy? Perhaps LED provides less penetration but the fact you are able to keep LED closer to canopy makes it a wash?

damn so you used brand new led lights vs an old hid bulb for the battle. you screwed up dude. not a fair side by side at all. even if you replace it with a new hid bulb now, it still wont be a fair battle. the damage is done. nice effort though!

I didnt screw up anything but thanks for your opinion...

Oh and if I didnt already post the bulb was used for 4 cycles of 12/12 at 70 days. So go figure the bulb was far from behond its life. I know there are plenty of folks using bulbs much longer then that, So you need to factor in yeah the bulb was used but it sure wasnt past its advertised lifespan.

I think your problem may just be accepting the fact the LEDS outperforming the HID. So you want to try and state how this test is unfair. Your wrong and that's the bottom line. I do believe the bulb was older and that was why its so far behind but again, According to the manufacture the bulb wasnt do for changing for another crop.

Believe me I felt the exact same way, Woah the LEDS whipping ass, Something must be wrong, So I changed the bulb and made the same assumption that the hid was behind because the bulb, When in reality its not the bulb at all, Infact I think I may switch the sides all together and see if the led side catches up with the hid side after switching.

Again I will do a repeat grow and all the people who think this first test was unfair wont be saying nothing about round #2!

thx for the heads up ledgirl. ill be looking for that, u should post it in the vertical circular thread when it hits the streets, and then avoiding them as they will be way overpriced. but thx. lol
