Wanna ask about an old growing myth ??

The only reason I asked this is just about every private greenhouse I have gone into the owner had a stereo system hooked up playing classical so it makes you wonder is it a wives tale or is there a bit of truth to it.

It would appear there is no truth whatsoever attached to this theory, at least based on current scientific findings :)

72 hours of darkness before cutting down plants, does this add resins and trich's???????

Good question, I am not certain about the resins etc.
A dark spell will restore all the aroma prior to trimming, I am sure of that.

I think most is played for the gardeners C'. etinarcadiaego is right - no truth.

I posted a link in a different thread from a book by Robert Nelson. It's online somewhere.

Rock n' Roll is bad. It's all about frequency vibrating and stimulation of the plant.

i am pretty sure the tv show mythbusters checked this out and they found music was beneficial to plants.

i like to have sounds going for my plants, btu im not tradional in the sense i dont play 'music' for them....

i have a cd called "singing birds - natures relaxing sounds" that is pretty much what it sounds like - birds singing. once in a while theres a little flute melody or drum beat... but it sounds like pot's natural environment - outdoors! its very relaxing no stress sounds that are playing on repeat 24/7. it makes the grow room more of a sanctuary than a room....

I don't have much to add to the topic of the thread itself, just enjoying reading it...but wanted to note that Mythbusters is about as solid a source as wikipedia and nothing but pseudo-science

just another resource of potential information available... just in an easily accessible entertainment format :tiphat:

i think they said death metal was the way to go music/frequency wise...

heres some record of what singing birds can help accomplish:

i think how this got started is that your plants may benefit by having you talk to your plants because of the act of talking releases a small amount of co2 to the plant. of course singing to your plants could work as well.
recorded singing or music would not of course work although perhaps playing an instrument in proxcimity to a plant could help.
the key here is the human respirating near the plant not the music playing. that is just ridiculous.

What's going on with the fan leaves, I don't think they like singing birds.

at the end my plants want to get all rastafarian hehe...

My plants don't have ears. I do have ears so if there's music playing next to them, it's probably because I'm listening to it. Any studies about music helping plants were done with classical music which I don't often listen to, but I think that those studies were corrupted by erroneous data.

Okay for years and years we have all heard no doubt that speaking to your plants as well as music playing in your grow room will stimulate growth and I am wondering if any of you long time growers have an opinion on this ??

So does music stimulate growth or pure myth ? If you have found it does stimulate growth what type of music do you play for your plants? I ask the second question to see if sound stimulates growth then want to see if there is a pattern to the type of music has best effect such as lots of bass or treble a mixture orchestra or some other type of genre.

this is true bass is best i done a side by side with one having treble played and one bass notes and one as a control

my grandad (the original ganjapharma) used to say "the best fertilizer is a farmers shadow".
I think of that every time i hear of some wild ritual or technique for growing herb. anyone who loves their girls enough to talk to em or play em music (or anoint their seeds with ghee, or plant on a solstice while singing to the moon, or burying crystals...i mean the list doesnt end) is just going to be more attentive and PRESENT. paying attention, and staying intimate with your plants DOES result in better herb.
so play that skunky music white boys!

If I remember right, the plants that listened to death metal did the best out of the grow. A lot of that I think could be attributed to the frequency of vibrations.

There are people that use ultra-sonic freq generators to strengthen a plants fibers...kinda like wind/fans most people use.
