Cloning hormones revealed; a side by side comparison

I use regular home depot shop floros. The fixture holds 2 bulbs, so I got an orange and a blue. Also, because of my tight set up, I need to shade my cuts from the 1000w MH running the moms.

Here's from a previous post,
Speaking of too much light...:wallbash:
Having my clone rack right next to the 1000w MH that is vegging my moms is not a very good idea. It is obvious that the clones in the front of the tray are suffering versus the back...
Closer to MH have twisty stems and leaves:

while the plants further from the light stand straight and healthy:

To fix this problem, I just hung panda paper from the shelf to block the light

:D

I have a wire rack with shop lights on each shelf. This makes well lit space, while each light adds heat to the rack above it. I don't use that big dome much anymore...

what wattage are they? 2x20w ? if so i should look into adding more warmth, i could maybe add another 20w blue cfl and raise the lights abit to make up for adding possibly more light than needed. that would only raise ambient slightly, but it may help ?

32watts /tube in my lights. they r completely basic. Try replacing your blue bulb with something with more red/orange to promote root growth.

Other things to consider would be if your media is aerated enough, or if the humidity is comfortable. Make sure your mothers are well fed, and that the branch you are cutting is not old growth. Nitrogen is known to slow rooting, so you could try lowing the N in the mom feedings as long as they show no deficiencies.
Good Luck!

I'm glad to see this thread after just cloning for the first time with a rooting powder and not a gel. But, it's a different brand name. Has anybody heard of ferti-lome root powder? The active ingredient is indol-3-bulyric acid.

Ferti-lome is a well known and respected agraculture oriented company.
Thier products are marked to gardeners and farmer types - so it's at a conciderably lower profit mark-up than "canna" products.

If the facts of this thread prove to be true - I may have to put my bottle of clone jel on craigs list freebies

I'm not here to change any minds. If you are happy with your process and results, than rock it. I simply started this project because I found that I had accumulated many rooting products that I am impartial to. If this thread gets u thinking, It's easy to try it at home. Do half ur cuts with no hormone dip and see the difference. I'm glad I did.

Indol-3-Butyric-Acid is the active ingredient in most rooting hormones I know of such as Clonex or Rootex G.

I use Clonex purple for semi-hardwood cuttings. The concentration of Indol-3-Butyric-Acid is 3 grams per litre.

If you want to root clones as fast as possible in rockwool cubes, (1) fully squeeze the rockwool out after (2) soaking in low PH (around 5.5 - 6) very dilute nutrient solution of like 200 ppm of a 1/1/1 ratio of GH flora series with a few drops of superthrive per gallon so the roots have what they need when they develop and so the clones show less deficiencies. The trick here is a few things, (3) re-cut the tip of the clone underwater after taking it from the mother plant about a 1/4 inch up from the original cut as to prevent air bubbles that will dry out and kill the clone - do this before dipping it in your hormone if you use one, (4) scrape the stems very gently where they are to root with the back of a pair of scissors or with a butter knife to help the clone take up water in the stem tissue and stimulate hormone production & root growth where it is disturbed, (5) cut the leaves in half to reduce transpiration and close the stomata so the clones do not lose internal moisture and wilt after being cut, (6) do not mist your clones unless it's absolutely necessary as this delays rooting signifigantly since they don't need to grow them to get water, (6) keep the rooting medium barely damp and not wet & you will get faster roots seeking the moisture out with less bacterial or fungal issues. (7) Fresh air exchange is vital, make sure to give clones plenty of fresh air by lifting the lid or top, etc at least once a day and blowing fresh air into their space and releasing overly humid stale air - also once they show signs of root growth uncover them and if they do not wilt then do not recover them & then the roots will grow very fast at this point, if necessary at this point due to almost dry rockwool you can add a small amount of the same type nute solution you started with to the bottoms of the cubes but just enough to make them damp not soaked. :)

Personally, I use HORMEX liquid and for me it's a 100% successful clone rooting every single time and never takes more than a week max. Obviously you need a warm environment of around 75f to low 80's , low/medium levels of good full spectrum light (mixed cfl's or t5's work perfect), and clones from a healthy well fed & watered mother to start with. That was my one long run-on paragraph crash course on how to root clones like a champ. Time to roll some shit up now! ;)

Rootech owns them all...one hormone to rule them all, one hormone to bind them, one hormone to bring them all, and in the darkness root them........

Nice thread. I am glad to see which one worked, and will probably be throwing away my clonex and upgrading to DG. Or may just do a test myself next time with no hormones vs. clonex. Either way, thanks for the info!
