So with this season underway i keep having a lot of out of the bag soil issues with fox farm. Light Warrior, Happy Frog, and Ocean forest included - quality of this soil seems to be shitty. Chunks or bark roots sticks all sorts of shit in their.

In hind site my only other real alternative is Promix BX Professional. What's your guys take on it. Really need something new to work with fox farm is a little too pricey for the problems i keep having with it, soil runs so very hot and im giving pretty much drops of nutrients and shits just not working. So please just inputs about promix and how it worked for you don't really wanna get into what i did with fox farm or anything from a lot of people i've talked to in the shops their soil isn't what it use to be.

Look to coco and never look back.

I know I did.

I also had a slew of issues in Fox Farms Ocean forest when using their nutrient line. I probably could do a better job now, but coco has been awesome and I'll never go back. For starters, it is cheap and reusable. Secondly, the growth is very close to hydro, and I think is maybe 50% better than soil. Thirdly, you can treat it almost exactly like you treat soil but you don't really have to, so you have options.

I prefer a simple top feed method with a coco based nutrient line, namely Canna, but there are others. Feeding every other day, or every day, once the roots set is the name of the game. Texture wise coco feels like the perfect soil and it behaves pretty much like that. Coco holds a good deal of oxygen in the media which makes over-watering possible only when the plants are very young.

Best of luck to you. Try to stick to 3 gallon planters for flowering plants or you'll have beasties on your hands. Combine with Air-Pots or SmartPots and you'll see why I say coco is the shiznitobamsnipsnapsammy. You could do better in a full hydro setup but coco is so easy it's practically fool-proof.

I've also noticed the shitty quality of FFOF soil as of late. I was thinking of switching to BioBizz All Mix for my soil creation needs.

You probably shouldn't use that Terra Line on the coco without supplementing a few other things, like Calcium and Magnesium. Also, I really suggest using RO water with some cal-mag+ added to fulfill the cation exchange needs of the coco without adding harmful things like chlorine and fluoride from tap water. But, still, you could pull it off by incorporating a good humic/fulvic system with it.

I chose Botanicare's compressed bricks for fear of my expanded coco picking up bugs or something and bringing them into the grow room. Gnats do seem to prosper in the coco, so incorporating some Synacra pauperi (fungus gnat parasite) into the mix is a good idea if you can get your hands on some from a hydro store. Otherwise those bug strips will do a good job to keep the problem to a minimum if it does show up.

Since you're stuck in the soil for the time being I suggest doing a major flush of the soil with some RO water, and letting the plants just show you what they need. It's probably Calcium and Magnesium, maybe some zinc, and ultimately more potassium. Add these back into the soil slowly and think as organic as you can, molasses might work well for a lot of this.

Peat isn't a bad media but I personally find coco just a little easier to manage with pH related issues.

Yea i think its just fucked up PH, we had a land slide that must've unsettled some bad shit i've used my tap for years without a problem ever. I baught out the stock of RO and gave the 16 oz about 32 oz to stfu and turn green again sick of their bullshit.

I had terrible luck with Fox Farms products. The ocean forest fucked up a lot of my plants and I ended up losing a lot of stuff.

Recently tried Promix BX and really like it. The plants explode in growth. I use it at 60% Promix, 20% ewc, 20% perlite.

I'm having a REAL tough time believing these stories about Fox Farm soil hurting people's plants.

My tried and true soil mix is 1 gallon FFOF, 1 gallon Happy Frog, 16 oz of chunky perlite, and one teaspoon of Happy Frog All Purpose (5-5-5) fertilizer. I use this same mix from germination all the way through flowering and I have never seen the first PH or nutrient burn/lockout/deprivation problem. Every bag of FF soil I have opened has been exactly the same, PH right at 6.8, same composition, same everything. I use a cheap EC meter from the hardware store, granted not the best, but it consistently shows soil nutrient level to be in the middle of the "LOW" range. All of the plants start yellowing leaves right when they should, and this is even with me foliar feeding them weekly up until then. So in short...just HOW is this considered a hot soil?

I wish it wasn't the dark period in my tent now so that I could take pics of the "sticks of bud with leaves" I have growing in there right now using this mix.

What exactly is the problem here?

:yeahthats

I have been using FF soils for about 4-5 years now,.......just picked up 4 bags 2 days ago, and mixed,....looks dark, rich, and loamy like it always does,.....hell I'm so happy with FF soils, I'm thinking about investing!

I SERIOUSLY think some "dealers", are using FF BAGS, and re-packing with their own "yard dirt", and then selling that at $18 a bag, because I'm just NOT seeing what I am reading about in the FF bags I buy.

my hydro shop where I buy the FF soil JUST had a "open house/BBQ" day where the FF soil guys were there explaining stuffs, and I learned a lot about how FF "blends" their soil/fertilizer products.

but I wouldn't be the LEAST bit surprised to discover that some of these "shops" are up to unscrupulous activities re-bagging soil, and passing it off as genuine FF soils

people stopped surprising me with how fucked up they can get decades ago.

I don't know why you'd find that funny,......

I keep reading all these "fox farm sucks" threads, but again, I JUST DO NOT SEE IT.

I got no roots, no sticks, no rocks, no burnt plants, no shitty yields,......in fact it seems I am using a completely different soil than in these threads.

so a simple explanation would be that someone is fucking someone over (human nature), and I believe in occam's razor:
http://people.howstuffworks.com/occams-razor.htm

when people STOP fucking other people over for cash, THEN I'll believe that fox farm is all of a sudden putting death valley clay and miracle grow in their bags.

back to the thread:

I see this at another local hydro shop, but never looked into it.

thanks for the tip, I'll have to try a grow with it
